Strong recommendation from a life long Point and click adventure game fan. Beautiful story, great voice acting. Wadjet Eye Games rule.
Basics are OK: good graphics, great voice acting, music. The gameplay mechanics are not my favourite - lot of running back and forth to talk with the same people to move the plot forward - sometimes more annoying, than interesting and not many real, classical adventure game puzzles to solve. But the great thing is that it has a good story, and considering all the complexity of time travel and alternative timelines, it felt consistent and well thought-through. Not only the main characters were interesting enough and likeable to care about them, this is true even for some of the side characters who just showed up in one episode or another. This is a great example where a game is probably the best medium to tell a story.
Na początku byłem nieco sceptyczny jeżeli chodzi o szatę graficzną Old Skies.
Wadjet eye always makes bangers, the game was very simple but I liked the journey and the way things sort of connects, the characters are all charismatic and the nuances each chapter reflects about time are great. Notes: -Some puzzles are a bit annoying because of how the they don't allow you to look into where you need, so you stuck in endless rewinds -The sounds yet simple are very functional, the dubs are amazing and the voice actors gave their all -I like the cartoonish art style, WE games are always orangish but very colorful, it fits and adds up to the atmosphere -The ending felt a bit rushed, I think one more chapter to build the bonds between the characters a bit more would fit well before the final chapter Can't deepen my review without spoiling so, it's worth the price
This game's so good I bought it twice! I learned about it from a random article on the internet a few years ago. Unlike in the game, time travel doesn't exist today (at least I'm not aware of it) so I had to patiently wait for the release. Fortunately, it was well worth the wait. Wadjet Eye delivered again a story rich game with great voice acting and logical puzzles. Unfortunately, achievements didn't work for me the first playthrough (on a different platform), but the game was so good that I decided to also buy it on Steam and go the completionist way. I don't want to spoil anything, because there are so many minor details that are best discovered yourself during a (second?) playthrough. If you are into point-and-click games and find the concept of time travel at least mildly appealing, this game is a must play. As for the rest... maybe it will get you interested :)
Overall I really enjoyed Old Skies and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys point-and-click adventure games. What I liked: - The high-res background art and character animation is stunning - The emotional stakes, character arc, and payoff were really satisfying - The twist on time-travel mechanics was unique and was vital to the character arcs - Visiting Manhattan on 9/10/2001 was emotionally moving What I didn't like: - Some parts of the game, particularly Chapter 4, felt like filler that didn't contribute to the overall story - There were some puzzles where I had to take hand notes, as opposed to an in-game journal that keeps track of important clues--I'm used to being spoiled now
This game should be turned into prestige television--the time travel conceit is tremendously smart and moving. Few games have such an elegant, fresh approach to asking some of the oldest questions about how to live meaningfully. It's easy to imagine very smart people writing about this game. There are some character inconsistencies and clumsy puzzles. Who cares? You won't remember the flaws. Old Skies is about the narrative. That can be said about very, very few games. Hats off to the developers.
I really love the Blackwell series, but Old Skies has become my favorite point-and-click game so far. I love games with time travel themes, and here they handled it in a very mature and interesting way. Another fantastic game from Wadjet Eye Games.
