I really wanted to love this game, it's absolutely beautiful. I was sold on how beautiful the game looks. The combat is fairly straight forward and simple enough to pick up for anyone who has played JRPGs before. The characters all seem interesting enough from what I saw. My main problem is how little story there seems to be in the game. I'm over 10 hours in. Aside from the introductory story for the characters I got, (I did not get all the characters) there was probably only 20 minutes of story I saw. The monsters you find in the open world are so strong, which is fine, but it makes exploration in the world take a lot of time. You combine all that time spent traveling and grinding, because you have to grind to get through these areas, and you realize 90% of your time feels like it's in combat with no story. The game looks stunning, the combat is fun enough, but I play RPGs for the story and there was so little story, I'm just not interested in carrying on at this point.
Okay, here goes nothing... cue the challenge music. Someone once asked me, What is Octopath Traveler II?" After more than **90 hours** of gameplay, I think I finally have an answer. At its core, Octopath Traveler II is a JRPG with incredible music, beautiful HD-2D visuals, excellent voice acting, satisfying turn-based combat, and eight memorable character-driven stories. But that description barely scratches the surface. The game follows eight protagonists from completely different walks of life whose journeys eventually intertwine—hence the name *Octopath Traveler*. Every character has their own motivations, strengths, and personal struggles, making each storyline feel meaningful rather than simply existing to serve one larger plot. One thing that surprised me is how accessible the game is. It doesn't require a high-end PC to look gorgeous, and it plays wonderfully whether you're using a keyboard, an Xbox controller, or streaming through Steam Link with a handheld controller like a Razer Kishi or Backbone. In over 90 hours, I've experienced fantastic adventures, memorable boss fights, incredible music, and more than a few close calls. Better yet, I haven't encountered a single bug or glitch. Now, I'm a pretty cheap person when it comes to buying games. $60 is a lot of money in my eyes. My personal rule is that I want at least one hour of entertainment for every dollar I spend. So far, Octopath Traveler II has absolutely delivered. I've already played for over 90 hours, and I still feel like I'm only around halfway through because I tend to complete everything I can. If you're the same kind of player, this game offers an enormous amount of content. The combat deserves special mention. It's well balanced, but it also lets you become powerful enough to feel like you've earned your strength. Even then, major bosses remain challenging and rewarding throughout each character's story. If I had one criticism, it's the frequency of random encounters while exploring. At times it can feel like you're fighting something every 20–30 steps. Thankfully, later job abilities can reduce encounter rates, so the game eventually gives you some control over that. On the other hand, those battles are also how your party grows stronger, so it's a tradeoff rather than a major flaw. If you're new to the game, here's one simple tip: Always break enemy shields. Exploit enemy weaknesses until their shield breaks, then unload your strongest attacks while they're stunned. Against regular enemies, this mechanic becomes less critical later on, but against bosses it remains one of the most important parts of combat from beginning to end. Overall, I highly recommend Octopath Traveler II. It somehow feels both nostalgic and modern at the same time. The HD-2D art style is charming, the soundtrack is phenomenal, the gameplay is polished, and after more than 90 hours, it still hasn't stopped giving me reasons to keep coming back to it for more. If you're interested in classic JRPGs, I'd absolutely recommend adding it to your wishlist and picking it up during a sale—or grabbing it now if you're eager to jump in. And if you're still on the fence... Try the demo. It does an excellent job of showing exactly what kind of adventure you're about to begin.
Oh, this game is so pretty and charming. This is the sort of wholesome fun that I thought I left behind when I grew up and moved out of my parents' place. I love the art style and I really enjoyed the cute, sweet, corny story. The combat is interesting enough to pay attention to. The sound track is immaculate, and the characters are delightful. 9/10
I am now in a state of shock and astonishment after completing Octopath Traveler II, where I do not know what to do as the story is now over. I haven't felt like since this finishing A Final Fantasy or Persona style game. The writers absolutely cooked with the 8 characters and the main/side stories. The gameplay is exactly what you would want and expect from a turn based game. There was actual challenges that took some strategy to work through. At most I spent maybe a few hours grinding EXP and JP to make fights easier. Dancer RNG made a level farming super easy and exciting when it worked. They need to make a third game, I don't know how they could improve on the series, but this is a game formula worth creating a Octopath Traveler III for.
The sidetracks be sidetracking I chose throne and I have not even completed her chapter 3 cause all the other character stores are more interesting.
On souffle...
