I had literally no intention of playing this game. Nothing about it appealed to me. Then my wife played it on Switch 2...and said, "this looks like a game you'd play!" So I got it for $20 and played it for 90+ hours until completion just to tell me wife that I don't like it, in fact I hate everything about it. She's wrong. ...Just kidding, it was really enthralling and visually stunning. 10/10 would recommend for any JRPG fan.
que buen jrpg chaval me recuerda a mi infancia esas tardes con mi primo manolo jugando la fantasia final
This game is a masterpiece. A brilliant Japanese fairy tale about the human condition. Truly a work of art.
There's an old diatribe about the games industry which goes like this: 'Games are made by adults for children, except more adults play those games than actual children'. Or something like that. Octopath Traveler is a game made by adults for adults who want to feel like children, and I say that in the worst way possible. The gameplay is fine, repetitive but fine. Its the writing that I find so loathsome, so cliche, so hackneyed and boring that I find it hard to believe this game wasn't made in 1995. Considering its rated T for teen I'm also unsure who it is actually for, since it seems written for ages 10 and below. I can't recommend this game to anyone. If you enjoy the gameplay there are better games in the genre, and if you want an RPG there are countless better RPGs.
The central point of an RPG is the story. Many people play RPGs for the mechanics and ignore the story, and that's fine you're allowed to be weird, but the type of game that it is is one in which you play a role. The central problem with OT2 is that the writing is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's just nonsense. I find myself constantly skipping dialogue because it's just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad that I'm getting angry from reading it. I haven't been keeping notes, so I don't have a bunch of examples, but go watch any youtube video and you'll see what I mean. An example from just now was for Throne in Chapter 3. Father says, in relation to a mark that was killed by someone else: "I've seen a lot of bodies but I've never seen a wound like this before. It's as if the gods themselves took his life with a dagger." What. The ♥♥♥♥. Does that even mean? Those words in that order DO form a grammatical English sentence, but it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nonsense. It's just gibberish. It fails to comunicate anything of sense. "I woo'd that woman. It took me all night, but I eventually won her heart." Again, this is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nonsense. None of this is shown, and this is a woman he has literally *just met*. While it's possible a translation has gone astray somewhere in a work, the writing is so egregiously bad throughout this game that the writers should never be allowed to write anything ever again. The useless bags of meat that approved all of this ♥♥♥♥ should never be in a supervisory position ever again. AND WHY ARE WE STILL DOING RANDOM ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BATTLES IN THE 2020s????????????????? I very much enjoyed the original. I don't know why I'm still playing this game (inertia? Sunk cost fallacy? I'm maybe interested in seeing the full skill tree?), but jfc. What a complete waste of (development and play) time this ♥♥♥♥ is.
Insanely addicting combat and story with the superboss requiring a PhD in turn based tactics knowledge. Offered a lot more than I expected - absolute masterpiece. 10/10
Wanted to like this game a lot, but it just has too many design choices that I do not like as a JRPG player. Exceptionally easy game, especially random encounters where you're never at risk at all of party members being killed. Overly simplistic game systems. An extremely unbalanced economy. Worthless items in every chest you open. Repetitive dungeon design. Boring exploration. Mediocre writing. The art-style is great, but the visual design of the world isn't partucarly impressive. Some people will enjoy the game if they're just super in the mood for a JRPG and have greater tolerance for all of the above, but I cannot continue playing when there's very little challenge and tension. I also really dislike the non-linear style of the game in terms of quests. You'll have to play it to know what I mean by that.
非常好的游戏,另外今天是只因节,点赞这段话,只因精灵就会在你睡着的时候偷偷给你的只因加长5厘米,但是如果你看到了这段话不点赞的话,你的只因就会缩短5厘米
