I feel like most negative reviews are due to an unfortunate bug and a few poor design choices in the game. So let's get the worst out of the way: RUN THE GAME IN WINDOWS 8 COMPATIBILITY MODE, otherwise it probably won't launch. Yes, some controllers won't get recognized. Mouse and keyboard are fine. The only type of puzzles which might be a problem is easy once you understand what to do. Which brings me to the other point: the puzzles are not difficult, but some of the earlier ones really, really need a small tutorial, otherwise some people can and will be scared off. Aside from that, this is a pretty good "Myst in space" type of game. The story is great if you like hard-ish sci-fi. For some reason it reminded me of the movie Andromeda Strain a lot (aside from the obvious 2001: A Space Odyssey inspirations). There were a few moments which felt like that could be the end of the game, but to the devs' credit, the story went on to reach a logical end later. Visuals are great for the time (facial animations might not be the best, but daamn, those VHS effects!). Anyway, don't listen to the naysayers. This one's good.
A puzzle game and a sci-fi art project packaged into one product. This game shows a number of fresh ideas ranging from gameplay mechanics to storytelling from an interesting angle that make it well worth playing. Does not take too much to finish it, it's the sort of compact game that you play only for a short time, but at the same time it does not get too boring or repetitive. Can heartily recommend it.
this is THE hidden gem among hidden gems. never heard anyone talk about this game, there's barely anything about it on social media, and yet it's the best sci-fi experienced i could've hoped for. i've seen other reviewers say that the controls are hard to adjust to and yeah, kinda true, but consider that you literally play as technology. i think the way controls are made is perfect for immersion into a machine-like mindset. great depiction of aliens and non-linear time. this isn't a 10/10, it's a 1000/10. i could not recommend this game more. i will be replaying it, and i will be replaying it several times.
Cool (but kinda confusing) sci-fi suspenseful story about space anomalies. You take control of a spaceship's AI and try to help the human survivor to navigate her way through the ship and discover the truth. The gameplay itself can be a bit confusing and even boring at times, but you're here for the story! Which is also confusing! The story feels great, the mysteries and reveals are awesome, but it's still not that easy to piece together. But yeah, it looks great, and sounds great! I recommend it if you don't mind being confused for most of the time, and just want to enjoy the suspenseful spaceship environments and go through another fairly good story by the creators of Stories Untold.
Excellent walking (floating?) simulator. Really liked it. Why am I not recommending it, you ask? Automatic saves with no back-ups simply do not mix with permanently missable logs that are, additionally, required for both 100% completion and all achievements. I am not starting a third new game just because one of the areas I entered locked the door behind me and the game auto-saves at a cutscene rendering an entire area inaccessiblie until the end. Screw that noise, that's grounds to uninstall and mope on the game's review page. Oh yeah, and I guess characters and the player camera clip at times, with jarring, unfinished animation. Eh. It really mostly shows towards the end; guessing the idiocy that is a deadline rush got in the way of yet another good project.
Disjointed, poorly developed plot and characters. Absolutely not what I expected when I bought the game
Wish I could recommend this one since I really like the atmosphere and playing from the POV of a spaceship's AI is certainly unique but the gameplay is tedious, the puzzles are rarely ever interesting, and the story was unsatisfying. If you enjoy space horror you might like this but I can't recommend it for anyone else.
Felt different while and after playing this, kinda turned into AM towards someone. Really liked the concept to play as the station though.
In spite of the negative review, I think that the game is extremely well made, the voice actors all do a great job in the roles, and SAMs mechanics are exceptionally interesting to fiddle around with. What's ultimately my dealbreaker is the writing, the confusing pacing, and the lackluster use of the game's mechanics to advance or impact the story. The script feels completely disjointed right out of the gate, and several characters say or do things that get immediately dropped between scenes only for the plot to go on trucking through like a brick is glued to the gas pedal.
(I understand there's a in game reason for this, but that doesn't excuse the fact that it completely obliterates any semblance of a narrative.)
Compounding this is the fact that the overwhelming majority of the game's 'memory data' collectables have very little supplementary information for the actual plot and instead spin off into tangents about the personal lives of characters that either aren't in the game AT ALL or are there extremely briefly. Likewise, the different mechanics you have to control the station are SUPER in depth at points but are almost never touched on for more than one or two scenes, and are ONLY ever used when directly prompted to by the game itself. Very rarely does the game ever expect the player to try to solve a problem it presents intuitively, and instead everything is just directly spelled out for you. I think that if this were a sandbox game where you were aiding or subverting the crew with only vague instructions from
the marker
then there could've been a lot more nuance in how the game actually played. Hell, if they had done that you could've wound up with some intrigue with Houston or some actual character drama between the crewmates that was caused by the player! That aside, the mechanics are still super fun to play with, I just wish it had more player freedom and narrative decisions.
Good game supported by exceptional presentation and an intriguing plot. As a videogame, I wouldn't say that it was a lot of "fun," mainly because you are controlling cameras and solving simple puzzles. However, curiosity drove me forward and ultimately it was a memorable experience. 3/5 SAMs.
