About
This is not your average tower defense game. This is Obliterator-X, a brutal tower defense roguelike where you build, scavenge, and survive against relentless mutant hordes across scorched Outback-inspired landscapes. Assign combat drones, loot schematics, and blast through waves of enemies in a game where death is part of the plan and the beginning of your next upgrade path.

In Obliterator-X, every run begins with a short scavenging phase before enemies arrive, letting you explore buildings for loot and choose how to prepare. You will place traps, set turrets, and assign drones to suit your strategy. If you die, you bring back materials, experience, and new upgrades that permanently improve your odds in future runs.
Your time before the wave begins is critical. Use it to loot abandoned rooms, uncover powerful new weapons, and find blueprints for advanced defenses. Drones can be assigned to help you explore or guard key areas, letting you adapt your plan on the fly based on what you find and what is coming.

After each run, return to your base of operations where you can spend collected scrap, electronics, and food to unlock and build new facilities. Each building adds new functionality to the game, such as unlocking a minimap, revealing enemy paths, or increasing the power of your tech. Every structure can also be upgraded, creating long-term progression and new layers of strategy.

Use the skill tree to unlock powerful passive bonuses across four categories: Combat, Defense, Science, and Resources. Improve your stun effects, increase your resource yields, unlock smarter drone behaviors, and more. Every decision you make helps define your playstyle and build toward a stronger survivor.

Each successful run brings you closer to uncovering new parts of the world map. Explore distinct biomes, each with their own enemy types, environmental hazards, and loot opportunities. Whether it's a scorched outback, frozen wasteland, or twisted city ruin, every zone offers new challenges and strategic choices. As you unlock new regions, you will also encounter tougher enemy waves and better gear, encouraging long-term progression and replayability.

Obliterator-X, developed by Webbysoft and published by Armor Games Studios, is a high-intensity hybrid that merges roguelike progression with real-time tower defense and active combat mechanics. Set in a harsh, mutant-infested wasteland inspired by scorched Outback landscapes, the game challenges players to survive relentless enemy waves while balancing preparation, scavenging, and tactical adaptation. Rather than confining players to passive defense management, Obliterator-X demands constant engagement, blending strategic planning with moment-to-moment decision-making. Each run begins with a crucial preparation phase. Players explore abandoned structures and open terrain to gather resources, weapon blueprints, and defensive components before the first wave arrives. This scavenging window introduces immediate tension, as time is limited and the choice between searching further or reinforcing defenses carries meaningful consequences. The more thorough your exploration, the stronger your potential setup—but lingering too long risks being underprepared when the first assault hits. This risk-reward dynamic shapes the pacing of every run and ensures that preparation is as important as execution. When the enemy waves begin, Obliterator-X shifts into full tactical mode. Turrets, traps, and static defenses form the backbone of your fortifications, but they are only part of the equation. Combat drones add a dynamic layer, capable of being redirected in real time to plug defensive gaps, reinforce chokepoints, or actively hunt high-priority targets. This interplay between automated defenses and player-controlled units prevents the experience from becoming passive. You are not simply watching your build unfold; you are constantly responding to new threats, repositioning assets, and adapting as mutant hordes grow more aggressive and complex. The roguelike structure ensures that no two runs feel identical. Procedurally generated layouts, varying enemy compositions, and unpredictable loot drops keep strategies evolving. Failure is not the end but part of a larger progression system. Materials and knowledge gathered during each attempt feed into a persistent base of operations, where players unlock new technologies, strengthen headquarters facilities, and expand strategic options. Upgrades influence everything from drone efficiency to resource harvesting and defensive power. This long-term progression adds depth and encourages experimentation with different builds across multiple playthroughs. A comprehensive skill tree divided into categories such as Combat, Defense, Science, and Resource management allows players to tailor their approach. Some may focus on maximizing direct firepower, while others prioritize automated efficiency or resource optimization. This customization supports varied playstyles and gives each run a sense of intentionality. The synergy between meta-progression and in-run decision-making is one of the game’s strongest features, rewarding both immediate tactical skill and long-term strategic planning. Environmental variety enhances replayability. Distinct biomes introduce new hazards, enemy behaviors, and terrain layouts that require different defensive approaches. From arid wastelands to frozen regions and ruined urban zones, each setting presents unique challenges. Enemy types evolve accordingly, introducing flying units, armored brutes, and swarming creatures that force players to rethink static strategies. The escalating complexity of later stages ensures that even experienced players remain engaged. While the hybrid design is compelling, it may feel overwhelming to players unfamiliar with juggling real-time action and strategic oversight simultaneously. The learning curve can be steep, particularly when managing drone deployment and adapting defenses mid-wave. However, once the systems click, the gameplay loop becomes highly satisfying, delivering a constant sense of momentum and growth. Ultimately, Obliterator-X stands out as an ambitious fusion of tower defense and roguelike mechanics. By combining active combat, dynamic drone control, and meaningful progression systems, it creates a layered survival experience that rewards adaptability and foresight. The blend of scavenging, base building, and reactive defense keeps tension high throughout each session. For players who enjoy strategic depth paired with real-time intensity, Obliterator-X offers a challenging and replayable journey through a relentless, mutant-ravaged world. Rating: 7/10
I like it so far. The gameplay loop is really fun, and its been worth the money already. I don't think it will be a long game as I've already seen more than half the buildings I think. The below are minor complaints/opinions, I'm enjoying the game. I don't think I'm a fan of the noise/sound aspect - doesn't really add much. Makes my suppressed rifle a bit more attractive, but then I'm more leery about using my other cool weapon. Then I forget I have it when it gets loud anyway. If it maintained the low level that would work, but it increases at some point even when your defending drones can use your bullet type. I think I'd like it if there was more of an option to lean into gunplay, drones, or turrets as specific playstyles. Its hard enough that I've had to leverage all three, which is good on its own but I could see the appeal of more skills/options to specialize a bit more. I wish helpers would pick up loot or there was an option to not worry about loot as much other than the 1 magnet skill. Is there something you can do with white/common guns? Otherwise the stuff in chests that isn't gold/unique is a waste. If you could sell them easily for chits - that might be useful. Maybe you can and I just havent' figured it out.
"This game is a love letter to other flash games I remember playing as a kid. It's polished, has great rpg elements, and progression to make the waves feel very rewarding. The graphics, and carnage are great on screen and to have an interesting story to boot? I'm sold! Super fun as a shooter, and base builder hybrid. I'm already telling my other friends to give this game a try too! Always nice when you find something new that comes out of the blue :D" This perfectly describes how I felt about this game as I began to play. I cannot wait to delve further in!
A perfect game loop that has scavanging, tower defense, horde-survival, extraction, and base building. Sounds like a lot, but it's a great balance:)
It just wasn't... fun. Not much to do, not much variety. Some good ideas and design, but ultimately these needed to go through a player feedback loop many more times.
Jittery, twitch-heavy unpleasant grinder. Seriously needs a "casual gamer" mode, i.e. easier difficulty settings
it's fun, but definitely buggy - I've had a couple times where I died interacting with something and then never respawned. so, tentatively yes, but be ready for some jank
Bought when released since it was cheap and I like tower defense games.. I'm blown away at how fun it is. One of the best tower def games I've ever played, kudos to Webster, great game! Some notes when you start: - Set the zoom key - I set mine to 'o' and hit it when you start the round, for some reason it starts zoomed in and its just a little bit to much zoom. - Get the map upgrades early so you can focus on cool upgrades for guns, etc - It's borderlands-ish with gun specs, compare them, gold doesn't mean better - usually fire and poison do a lot of damage Not a free review and I don't know the dev - one of those 'its cheap lets see maybe its something' whims and turned out to be a good one, buy and enjoy!
Lots of fun! Reminds me of countless hours playing flash games on Newgrounds. Simple but addictive.
