Nox Archaist

Nox Archaist is a brilliant homage to classic RPGs, blending nostalgic Apple II-era aesthetics with modern gameplay mechanics. Extremely good Ultima-like for the old school gamer (most of my playtime is through the Nox Companion app which is just an alternate way to run the game that now includes an annotatable automap option). Unbelievably high quality labor of love

This was a wonderful game - a real throwback to retro CRPGs which don't hold your hand and create a real sense of exploration. I took a lot of notes using the steam overlay, piecing together bits of information from different NPCs and books to help me with my quests. Loads of hidden treasures and locations to find, COOL modes of transport (no spoilers here, but it's more than horses and different types of boats), and challenging combat throughout. The game also has quick combat which I used for trivial enemies, really helps speed up the game. Unraveling the main quest feels like an accomplishment, as is defeating the BIG evil(s). There are also no health or mana potions (big plus). The base game plus DLC took me 60 hours in total. I also strongly suggest you use the Nox Companion app (search for it on github), which removes the blurry font, and adds resizeable windows to show whatever you want (automap with the ability to add notes, summary party information, list of magic spells "equipped" etc). HIGHLY recommended.

Oh man, oh man. This really brings me back. Although my family was way too poor to have a PC back in the 80s and into early 90s, I do remember playing stuff like Legacy of the Ancients in grade school and much later Ultima on the NES. I adore this. If I could have this on mobile that'd be awesome. As it stands I highly recommend for those who are looking for a door into yesterday and how we used to play RPGs or anyone looking for just some good old nostalgia. Ultima vibes through and through. Be ready to take some notes though. If you want quest markers or hand holding, this may not be for you. Super fun, super authentic to yesteryear, and super recommended. Great job!

Very nice old-school game so far. I'm using alternative emulator (Nox Companion) for better quality and QoL stuff, hence my real time played won't be displayed here.
