Now there be Goblins sehr gut. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
English: -----------------------------------> Now there be Goblins by Shocktopus Games is a tower defense game in which we are right in the middle. As often happens and as the name suggests, we have to defend ourselves against hordes of goblins. The king of our kingdom gives us the task to first protect his beautiful new golden statue. We will receive a powerful hammer and an arsenal of defense towers. To slay the goblins, we throw the hammer, which is attached to our wrist, at the poor blue guys and pull it back into our hand with a jerk, that works god. Or we simply hit the little goblins' turnips with the hammer that works simply better. But the hammer is not only attached to our right wrist - left-handed mode is to follow - it can also recharge and then we can unlock certain abilities. Furthermore, we have cannons, barricades, traps, arch towers and much more at our disposal. Conveniently accessible via a wheel menu. The items can be placed almost freely in the environment. In combat we can not only slay with the hammer, we also have a shild and can hit or throw at the little blue goblins with pretty much anything in the environment. We can even use the dropped weapons of the enemies. Despite a small background story, it's mainly about setting new high scores and unlocking new difficulties, levels, hammers and items for the battlefield. All in all, Now there be Goblins works very well. If you like action-packed tower defense in VR, you'll definitely have fun, as the game offers a lot of content. Of course, the graphics are only on quest level and might scare off some players. Action tower defense in quest graphics, for lovers and goblin haters. 👀Disgusting Goblin Scurry🎊 on my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group

Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me!
Now There Be Goblins: Tower Defense VR is a solid tower defense game with a interesting mechanics on the hack and slash part. The hack and slash feels great using all kind of weapons and the main weapon the hammer there are diferent types which each one has 1 different skill. The game only has 4 maps with 6 dificulties so the maps have high replay value but still... there are only 4 scenarios so for me has a bit low on content.
Summary
It is exactly what it sets out to be and manages to deliver an enjoyable experience in VR. I am quite surprised with Now There Be Goblins, there are far too many half-made VR games out there and I'm happy to say this is not one of them. It really is a typical tower defence with barricades, ballistics, cannons and arrow turrets, each of which can be upgraded 3 times and repaired. You also get an arsenal of weapons unlocked via levelling up, each weapon has a unique ability and can be very impact depending on your play style.
The Devs have stopped development, but did lower the price
The developers have sadly stopped working on this game due to it being too much of a niche to be a worthwhile investment which I think is completely fair enough. However, in light of this, the game's price tag has been lowered and for £5 (I bought it during Steam VR Fest) it's a steal.
Amazing tower defense mixed with fun combat. It's a fun mix of running around setting up towers and barricades while also fighting off hordes of gobos. The balance between building more and the need to fight giant knight bosses is amazing.
I was going into this expecting your average indie jank VR game. Man I was surprised beyond belief. Combat: somehow combat is more satisfying than in many adventure combat games (hitboxes feel on point, the hammer has weight to it, the rope on the hammer is just simply genius for some excellent combat tempo). Abilities also seem super useful and impactful, the first one due to its nature is kinda meh, but if you unlock the second weapon its ability both feels AMAZING and does amazing. You become a tornado of bonks, the funny bonk popup everytime you hit, the enemies going flying if they die to your hammer. All of this was not necessary for the game to work but it is there because the developer seems to have a lot of love for the weapons and my god it shows. The whole system of looting weapons from the ground is also quite amazing being able to adapt to different waves of enemies. You got a horde of runners running towards you? Pick up 2 swords and slice them up quickly. Big armored guy? Grab a nearby mace and go ham. Need to block a huge incoming wave so your cannon can do the work? Pick up 2 big shield and just stand your ground. Defensive buildings feel quite good you got your standard stuff from dungeon defenders 1 (if you ever played it), though I must admit the juggernaut enemy made me re-evaluate the sniper as the best weapon, since currently it is the only one that can easily deal with them. Did I ever mention you get upgrades for them as you level up, and they are not just some 10% extra damage nonsense. I am talking about making your wall have the eye of saruman and weakening all targets, your cannon actually has access to the vision of your other towers (like bloon TD 5 submarine upgrade). The upgrades massively change both the looks and the uses your different defenses can have. Overall the game has a lot of polish, for example you can preview weapons/upgrades in a short tutorial video when selecting them and they all feel so slick and professional (like in starcraft 2 campaign, I loved that stuff). Anyway if you liked dungeon defenders, orcs must die, or just like tower defense in general this is a super easy recommendation for me, especially at this price point.
One thing I love about the tower defense genre is just how tinker-y it can be. One thing I love about VR games is just how tinker-y they can be. This game's existence works like a charm.
Bonk de gobbo
It serves as a passable tower defense game, but a little unclear at points. Tower stats are kind of hard to read (You'll get variants to towers, but can't compare them with the base tower until after you select it) and what your hammers do can be confusing. The third hammer, the one that poisons, makes no mention of how to actually throw the vial (You have to grab the bottom of the hammer). The third area, the Mines, has been kind of a turn off for me. There's barely anywhere to build that isn't on the enemy path. It can feel really claustrophobic. If you place a barrier down in certain parts you can block your own path. There's also enemies that sail down the top path in a minecart that you can't really do much about. I guess you're supposed to just sacrifice barriers to them, according to a response from one the devs I received, which is not a fun mechanic and counter to the tower DEFENSE genre. There's no actual counter play. There's potential, but right now It's not something I can really recommend.
