Great concept, and a really fun game! However, due to the fact that I cannot continue forward in the Dark Sentinel mission because of a known bug since 2018, and I am experiencing it here in 2026 causes me to give a thumbs down. I will just go subscribe to tryhackme and actually do the same thing but earn real experience and certs to put on my resume. Thumbs down for me. Sorry devs.
The more I play the more problems I find. The later missions have a ton of bugs in them. For example there could be multiple ways to get something done but because you didn't do an exact thing. You can be stuck until you figure that out. Then there is points throughout where you have to look up on YouTube things. Not because it is too hard. But because there is 0 clue on things or they want to hide your mission files in 10000 folders and it is quicker to look up where they are vs poking around. The UI while looks cool, it isn't largely functional.Windows dim, parts might drift for no reason, the thing where you keep your case info there is no way to just hover over the given files to make it where it isn't lighting up. I can keep going but this feels like a beta.
This game makes me feel like a hacker. One of my fave games - really builds on the universe of The Black Watchmen. Harder to play these days as these altered reality games need upkeep - but I still recommend it!
TLDR; Don't buy Says I have 19 hours in....yeah 19 our trying to get the advanced OSINT training module to load. I tried switching servers (I know what I'm doing, CEH, Sec + Etc). I've allowed the game through my firewall, tried resetting everything. Overall great IDEA for a game, but that idea means nothing if you can't even play it. I'd refund if I didn't have 19 hours wasted of my life troubleshooting this hacking game's network, Shame, I was stoked..
I'd recommend the game as a fun puzzle game. It does tend to mimic some real tools that are used in cybersecurity (source: I am in that field) and for someone just getting into it or who might be interested, it's great! Yes, you won't be able to learn that much from it, but the fun UI, story, and its relation to TBW is already great. Highly suggest for puzzle game fans or those who want a very basic, "intro" to some information security ideas. Mind you though...red teaming is not this exciting hehe, it's quite a bit more pencil pushing, but that's what makes it fun.
NITE Team 4 is a high-stakes hacking simulator that trades "Hollywood clicking" for authentic cyberwarfare. As a operative for a secret agency, you use the Stinger OS to execute missions that feel close to real-world penetration testing. Highlights True-to-Life Hacking You’ll perform actual reconnaissance (OSINT), network mapping, and exploitation, using tools inspired by real cybersecurity like Kali Linux. Missions aren't just about typing you have to coordinate with field teams, intercept satellite data, and sometimes even research real-world websites to find your targets. Immersive Atmosphere, Sleek UI and black-ops aesthetic makes every terminal command feel heavy and consequential Imo
Account recovery system has been broken since at least 2024. Steam discussions are disabled. Best we have is a "Join our Discord!" thing mentioned in old posts. Clearly the devs don't care enough about their customers.
Game is now unplayable, tutorial doesn't work because the servers are dead.
Like apparently all games in this genre, it loses its luster pretty fast and you get stuck doing very routine inputs with little variety and trivial investigative work, which in the case of xkeyscore is just more heavily curated automated processes. You will never hit a roadblock until it's something entirely new to you since it wasn't in the tutorial, like rerunning sfuzzer or running IPs through Bing to access more subdomains, or entering information in the password attacker to make it faster/at all possible. A big part of this is you're not allowed to fail or sprawl during your investigative work. You are only ever given relevant information at all times (except this one random bounty mission where you can access every single account for an entire paper). Even if and when you are presented with a roadblock, the answer is always just to kick the door in with a loaded email and wait for some company idiot to open it. Only once do the parameters for the email even matter, and it's all spelled out for you, because it has to be. All in all: Short, linear, style over substance. Also a stacking window manager? Really? Oh and also it's always-online, yet the internal access for doesn't even work, so there really is no reason this. And bring back the demo.
