One of my all time favorite games.

A distinct improvement over the original Nioh in my opinion. This game combines various elements of the first game and flesh it out a bit, so instead of being a foundation, it is a full fledged package. This game's combat has so many ways to play and so many ways to optimise your strategies that it is genuinely a great example of an action RPG. You do not need to be the best to win and succeed, but it also does help to be good at what you do. You can use brute force as effectively as you can use more evasive styles or even magic. The game will push you at times, but you will be better off for it and in the worst case you can always do everything that a RPG allows you to do to get better. The story is okay I suppose. It was never really my primary focus but I did understand what was going on pretty much the entire way. I feel like the game has to overexplain at times and use excuses but generally these can be ignored by the player. Even in the side content there are some story elements here and there, but they don't shoehorn story content into every side quest nor are you forced to do said quests to understand the story. I still recommend doing a lot of them though. The game's main issue are the secret techniques hidden behind drop chances really. But to be honest with you, you don't need them at all. Some are convenient, some are great combo extenders, some are just straight up cheese. None are essential to playing and winning for your average player. As far as main story is concerned. I especially liked the ending of the main story and was definitely surprised by what transpired. The art style and reflections of Japanese legends are vividly portrayed through this game and I find myself reading descriptions and getting distracted purely by accident. I don't stick around and read in videogames, but this one managed to force me to read, it's that good at what it does. Bosses start off easy and get difficult as you go along and there's even a sidequest in the middle of the game to prepare you for the DLCs (and he is by no means a pushover). Some will challenge you, some may not and some are just interesting to fight. (Because it forces you to adapt in specific ways) The DLCs will put you through your paces. That is when you need to 'git gud' so to speak. But as long as you get your movement down and you're good at pattern recognition, you can use a lot of tricks to defeat opponents that cause you trouble. I think this game was the best in the series at my time of playing it. It had a distinct vision of what it wanted to be and while it had a few issues, it doesn't let most players down in terms of ways to play, story, sidequests, bosses, art style and depictions. I think most players familiar with action RPGs on the whole who don't mind a linear environment atypical of today's time will enjoy this game, but it's not for everyone. There is no shame in playing this game first in the series, you'll have fresh eyes into the world Nioh and won't be spoiled in terms of the first game. But it grants a different perspective of the game if you do. (As I said though you don't need it). If you start and ended here in the series, you would likely not be disappointed. But if you're coming in here expecting a souls-like. Don't. It's not a Souls-like in my opinion, it may be on the surface level but it should not be played like one.
Good, but the game routinely ignores inputs and in this kind of game this is a huge, huge issue.
