uh...love seiyuu
Ninki Seiyuu strays away from the typical high school romance formula and features a cast of seiyuus as it's love interests. As someone who has always admired the work of Seiyuus be it in anime or VNs, recognizing the voice of seiyuus has always been fun for me. Each seiyuu has given their A-game in delivering their lines and really breathing life into these characters. Ninki Seiyuu dives deep into the landscape of voice acting, it showcases the nitty gritty details that audiences often don't see, while depicting seiyuus being at different stages in their careers, with Konatsu being the rookie with talent, Kurusu being at the height of her career and Seno being the veteran whose been in a long slump. You will experience a variety of ups and very troubling downs across each route, which further separates Ninki Seiyuu from other VNs. While I applaud how down-to-earth and novel the premise is, sadly the romance side has mostly been a mixed bag for me. I think setting the game in a highschool did very little for romance and slice of life portions, the dorm and work setting would have worked better in a University. However the core issue lies within the dynamics between the love interests and our MC Keito. All the characters ever do is talk about work and go on dates to take breaks from work. Keito basically plays the same boyfriend across all three routes, where he provides support by helping the Seiyuus with their rehearsals and complementing them on how talented/ hardworking they are. The exception to this would be Konatsu since Keito is her biological brother, their dynamic is obviously different from the others. (Yes, it's gross and the way they address in game this is also weirdly nonchalant). In terms of romance, almost all of their free time is spent on work or taking short breaks from work and adding in some H scenes in between. I refuse to believe that Seiyuus don't have personal lives and hobbies. The way relationships progress in Ninki Seiyuu are very static, Keito helps them with work as a friend, he confesses, he helps with work as a boyfriend, they bang for the first time, he bangs them when he's helping them with work, rinse and repeat. Character dynamics simply vanish when they are on a date and the game just skips straight to the post-date sex. This gets stale real quick and the fact that there are so many H scenes shoehorned in makes it worse. The scenes themselves are also unnecessarily long and alot could have been left out. It doesn't really feel intimate, more so a work obligation from devs to satisfy players. As for the Seiyuus themselves, you'd think that each girl would be given extra attention due to the comparatively smaller roster, but that is sadly not the case. Kurusu was my first route and she's a gamer, in fact she's been playing with Keito in the same mmoRPG before they dated. However nothing interesting ever comes from this common interest, the first session they had as a couple was very brief and uneventful, mostly because we don't see them actually have fun at all. She also decides to be uncharacteristically stubborn when she was diagnosed with a nodule in her vocal chord and refuses to rest her throat (the one thing she cannot afford to lose as a seiyuu) even though she's been an accomplished seiyuu with a bright future ahead. Her route was easily the least enjoyable for me. Moving on to Konatsu, her chemistry with Keito was serviceable and her route showcased the undesirable sides of being a rookie seiyuu, being picked on by condescending seniors, feeling pressured multiple retakes and being unable to tap into your assigned role. Outside of work, she works alongside Keito to manage the dorm their mother was working on, so she also doesn't get alot of free time for anything else. When they finally announce their relationship in front of their mom and their dorm, everyone just takes it with very little push-back except for one line from Seno, which is very weird considering they are biological siblings. Makes me wonder why they couldn't just make them step-siblings since nothing would have changed. At last we come to Seno. Her route was definitely the best and it oozes main route energy. In a particular date, in order to help Seno with her audition as a more mature character, they go on a date where she has to roleplay with a mature voice the whole time. This is very refreshing and fun to watch because you can tell both of them have grown more comfortable and intimate with each other after exploring new sides of themselves together. Interesting enough, Seno is voiced by Haruka Sora, the same voice actor of Yoshino from Senren Banka and Hazuki from Riddle Joker (all of which are hardworking, diligent and serious characters). An honorable mention goes to Noa, the most promising character to not get her own route. She has the most distinct and fashionable character design compared to the rest. Noa is model whose blunt, carefree and very funny. Honestly her chemistry with the whole cast is what held most of the slice of life scenes together. She's also a part of team "No work" within her school since she gets very little work. She also shows signs of being unsure of her career and own body throughout different routes. Her voice actress did a phenomenal job with delivering her lines, on top of sounding very pleasing to my ears. All in all, Ninki Seiyuu presents a very unique perspective on the voice acting industry. The romance is serviceable at best and barebones at it's worst. Definitely worth a try if your interested in Seiyuus and how they are made.
