Summary
A strange point and click adventure game with an interesting story based on a book. Pros + Strange interesting story + Graphics still hold up Cons - Timed puzzles can cause death - Quite a bit of backtracking
Overview
Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals is a very strange point and click adventure game based off a book series. I have no prior knowledge of the books so I went into the game completely blind. I have to say the game setting and story is very strange and will keep you captivated enough to see through the end. Story Nikopol has an interesting yet very strange story. It mixes a futuristic dystopian France with Egyptian mythology and straight up aliens. The world building is quite something to behold and everything about the world and story is generally just so strange it will captivate you enough to see it through the end. Graphics & Sound Graphics still hold up and is quite decent, nicely depicting a future dystopian France and strange alien things. Cutscenes use a mix of movie and comic panels creating a interesting and unique style during story sequences. The voice work is actually pretty good with decent dialogue written that fits the narrative. Gameplay The game uses a first person view and allows full 360 exploration within areas and you move between areas by finding paths. Puzzles in the game aren't too complicated though there are quite a few times where you'd find an item that you know you would likely need, the problem is sometimes the game would not let you do things or take items before you make progress in other areas. Another part that can get annoying are the timed puzzles, failure to figure them out or complete them in time will cause your death requiring you to retry the sequence. There are also a few other ways you could end up dying and each time you fail the autosave or reset could put you a little ways back. This is one of those times when style wins over substance. Visually, even if dated, the game is pretty good, and the soundtrack doesn't feel grating either. As for the negatives, there are timed sections where you need to think fast, but the game may not give a proper indication of what's expected of you. The first part of the game features a particularly bad example of that. Also, sometimes you will encounter a rare case of moon logic, where a walkthrough will be a must. With all that said, the game is mercifully short, as I was able to complete it in 3 hours, and I expect the average play time may be around the same for everyone.

It's a pretty good adventure game. The story is interesting and the whole cyberpunk atmosphere gives it a nice vibe. The animations and cutscenes enhance the experience a bit more and the puzzles are decent.

Broken. If I try to use chains to block one door - it is OK, but it doesn't work on the same door in another place in moment of rush. If I take some item so early before it supposed to be used, I have a broken game. Instead of the game I'll better buy the artbook... But it doesn't exist, at least in Steam.
j'adore l'univers d'Enki Bilal. Ce jeu le retranscrit parfaitement. Un point & click réussi qui se fait assez vite
There's a reason the last time I played this was 2013, and it's now 2024.
