NightCry is set on a cruise ship, and you have been invited along for the cruise of a (possibly short) lifetime. While your surroundings are luxurious and the guests are friendly, not everything is as it should be. The guests and the crew start to turn up dead, the victims of some foul murderer.

i havent finished the game yet im on the final chapter near the end tho and i wanna say that overall this game is actually pretty good for an indie project. the graphics are lacking but theres a real passion behind this game i think overall its pretty cool the choices/actions u make determine the ending like the og clocktower however this game is significantly long so it makes it more annoying to reach a bad ending especially because many of the story affecting actions are easily missed such as getting a ring from a vending machine. although the game uses a flowchart system showing u exactly what lead u down ur urrent path so after ur first run it shouldnt be hard to see what u missed. as for puzzles and progression, its fine theres this annoying system where a character wont speak all their dialogue at once so u need to talk to them multiple times in a row to progress, one section like this in chapter 3 can lead to a bad end if u dont call ur friend in between talking with a crew member, kinda stupid but it makes sense i guess considering the context of the scene.... genuinely dont think this game is possible without a guide cuz of how many small actions can kill u or give u a bad end. the story... idrk i skipped most of it. i always prefer the gameplay of these types of games over the story but the general idea is still understood, 3 interlinked protagonists, a boat, a murderer, a cult. the controls suck i understand that as a clock tower spiritual successor they wanted to keep the point and click style but fun fact clocktower was a 2d environment while this is 3d with fixed camera angles meaning i often got stuck on angle changes or environments during chases. 100% if u like clocktower, remothered, coma, dead of night or any other survival horror stalker games then buy this, preferrably on sae but be aware that its very janky with mechanics that arent the most intuitive.

NightCry is a pretty bad point and click, horror game and what makes it even more sad is that it’s done by some of the original team that worked on the original Clock Tower games, but what is the story. On a cruise ship people are having a good time, whatever it’s on their honeymoon, attending a fancy party or for business. But unbeknownst to these passengers especially three passengers, one of them a young girl named Rooney, a creature with a giant pair of scissors soon attacks everyone. Now we follow the story of three people desperately trying to escape, will they or will they go down to Davy Jones locker. Okay the likes, the gameplay is a mixed bag I'll talk more about it in the dislikes, but the basis is like Clock Tower and Clock Tower 2, the monster shows up and you must run, hide or find different items that could be used as a weapon to chase the creature off, nothing too complicated, but again it does have a big problem. The puzzles are okay some of them are actually were pretty clever like the suitcase puzzle and the billiard puzzle. The graphics are okay it has a nice use of colors and designs, they remind me of the graphics from Deadly Premonition which is not a bad thing, the graphics in that game were good. The levels are good I mean the idea of a Scissorman like stalker attacking a ship is an interesting idea and the ship does feel like a real cruise ship with cabins, a mini bar, dance floor that sort of thing, it was nice to look at it and explore. The music was okay nothing really to write home about, did have some nice music for the chase sequence when being hunted by the stalker. The stalker Scissor walker is okay for a Scissorman like character it has a creepy design the way it moves and snaps its giant scissors. The atmosphere is okay nothing that really keeps you on your toes; honestly I blame it with the terrible control that really affects the atmosphere. Now is this game scary not really there is nothing that makes you jump out or scare you, it does have some unique kills and some pretty disturbing imagery, but other than that not scary at all. Okay the dislikes, the gameplay is pretty damn bad mostly it's the controllers like it’s really bad to the point where you'll be fighting more of the controls then the actual stalker, you see in normal point and click games all you have to do is click or double click to make the character walk or run to this place. The problem is that it’s so hard to control the character even when clicking they can go in different directions or they legitimately run into the stalker or they just take their sweet time walking, even when clicking it multiple times, even when they're being chased by the stalker. Also the stamina I don't know I feel like the stamina runs out way too quickly and it takes way too long for your character to get its stamina back, there are also branching paths in this game, but because the controls are so bad I couldn't even be bothered to explore those paths, especially since there are no achievements for doing it. The story is also really confusing and leaves a lot of unanswered questions, like why is the villain of this game doing all this, where did the scissor man like character come from and why are they supernatural. I mean the game does kind of explain it somewhat, but it's still very confusing. Also why is the main character Rooney connected to a death of a girl, what is that about? There is probably a better explanation in one of the branching paths, but again because of the bad gameplay I couldn't even be bothered to find the different paths. The voice acting is pretty bad, I mean no offense to the actors and actresses but it feels like they're barely giving a performance like this was a simple paycheck, which I can understand they probably weren't paid a lot, but still they could have at least had some fun with it, like there are some voice actors who even if the game is kind of bad they still give a pretty good performance and raise the game to a solid B. The characters were all so bad they were either jackasses or idiots or both. Like sometimes when reading the dialogue I was like, oh my God you are an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is this now the right time to be a petty dickwad or picking on someone when there's a giant monster running about. Now the worst part of Nightcry is the fact that this game was kickstarted, thankfully I'm not one of the original kickstarters but whoever Kickstarted this game expecting it to be like a modern Clock Tower game I feel very, very bad for them. Like I said there are a lot of other Clock Tower inspired games either by triple A studios or Indie developers that feel like a better love letter/Clock Tower inspired game like the remothered series, some mascots horror games and Bye Sweet Carole and just so many others that do this formula far, far better. So with done, NightCry is a pretty bad point and click, horror game and what makes it even more sad is that it’s done by some of the original team that worked on the original Clock Tower games, normally here I talk about what's really to like about the game, before following up with a recommendation but I can't recommend this game. It does have some interesting ideas, but due to the terrible gameplay, confusing story and just unlikable characters I can't recommend this game, it's just so bad and they're just so many other Clock Tower inspired games that are way better than this, hell there's the newly ported Clock Tower the first fear by WayForward that is worth your time and money. I mean you want to get this game okay I would say wait till it's on sale but I don't think it's ever been on sale.
NightCry is a weird and wonky game. You can see the Clock Tower-roots in the gameplay, but it is completely it's own thing. Fair warning, this can be a frustrating game due to the gameplay and it is not really scary due to a lot of things being accidentally comical. It is not for everyone. If you are looking for a solid horror game to play alone, look somewhere else, but if you are looking for something fun and weird to play together with friends then this is a good choice. Still leaving this as a positive review because I love wonky japanese games.
Loved the clocktower series since childhood however this game is a steaming heap of ♥♥♥♥♥ to put it kindly... Frick its bad, but at least there's a remaster of the first clocktower coming.
This game is janky as hell and hard to play (in a bad way), but if you're a Clocktower fan it's easy to ignore those bad parts and have a good time. If you don't know what Clocktower is or don't care for it, then don't waste your money. You'll hate this. DON'T play without having a guide on hand, otherwise you'll likely screw yourself over and have to replay the game from the beginning just because you missed one item or dialog line.
久々に起動させたらアイテム欄なくて積んだ笑 ゴーストヘッドみたいな作品にしてくれればいいのに
What didn't go wrong here? Terrible and sometimes non-responsive point-and-click controls within a fixed-camera environment, weak character development and story. Even with the good ending, I am left in wonderment, as I stare 'off into the sunset.'
It's basically a new Clock Tower game from the original developers, jank and all. If you liked the SNES and PS1 Clock Tower games, you can probably look past this game's flaws and like it too!
Doesn't quite live up to the legacy of the original Clock Tower, and it's sequel. But it was nice to see this type of horror game return, as it is quite unique for the genre.
