I remember trying this at some point. Maybe on my old laptop ? Looks cool and fun but even with the fix it does not work on my pc. Too bad because I love this type of game. I can run Crysis and the Far Cry Games, most at least, but not this for whatever reason. The intro ran, but the game play wouldn't load. Xonotic looks pretty nice and the bots are ok. My favorite tournament type of games with great to good bots are: UT2004, UT99 & UT3 (Internet Archive), Quake 3, Toxikk, Goat of Duty, and DooM2016. Except for UT (you can still get UT4 too, check reddit) you can still get all these on Steam.

I can't believe they even still have this listed on the store still. Illfonic dropped support for this game and it's been very broken for a long time. I wasn't even able to launch it last time I had it in my games list and ended up requesting that steam remove it from my account because it was such an eyesore. If the other reviews and curator posts about broken achievements haven't dissuaded you from being interested in dropping 10 bucks on this polished turd (literally), just expect to have a very janky experience should you manage to get in-game. Controls are unrefined, not smooth. bots have laser aiming as you'd expect. I really don't understand why they made this in the first place. Nexuiz was originally made as a multi platform FPS game running on Darkplaces engine; an opensource version of the quake engine that was capable of being compiled and cross-played between Mac, Linux and Windows. To this day you can still fire up any debian based distro, pop open a terminal and put in sudo apt install nexuiz to get the original version which is still pretty fun, feels just like Quake 3 Arena. This on the other hand was nothing more than a cash grab with Illfonic taking the Nexuiz name and wiping their ass with it.
I bought it almost on release, as I was a huge fan of the then Nexuiz (now Xonotic). But this, this game was bad. Not horrible, but not at all in the spirit of the original Nexuiz. I would not recommend it as anything more than a cheap game to play with mates at a lan.
𖤐 Refunded. Does not work. Freezes on the main menu trying to connect to a server that no longer exists so you can't even access the offline mode. Not sure why the game is still listed on Steam.
It's a great game, with amazing, fast-paced gameplay, but the developers abandoned the game, and all the players left with them. The fact it is still $10 after years of no-one playing it is just ridiculous.
Rating
2/10
Intro
Honestly, it doesn't take long to find out why this game failed. Why release an arena shooter with only Team Deathmatch? Why limit your player-base with something as graphically intensive as Cry Engine 3? Why is offline support so bare-bones? You're better off playing the Unreal Tournament series instead, they also have much more modes and customisation for quick games of fragging.
Positives
+ Good soundtrack. + Good level design.
Negatives
- Weapons lack impact. - There's only Team Deathmatch. - Official servers have been taken down. - Weapons don't look distinct enough to identify what they're supposed to be in the middle of a match. - Limited offline bots. Even on the easiest difficulty (the only difficulty you can pick by the way), they're still accurate aimbots. - Poor aesthetics and graphics. They may be shiny, but they make it hard to see crucial items on the maps. Meaning, you get the worst of both worlds. Poor visibility, because of visual noise and resource hogging, because of Cry Engine 3. Crash At Start Up & Constant Stuttering In Menus Fix: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Nexuiz_(2012)#Crash_at_start_up_or_constant_stuttering_in_the_menu
doesn't work
Used to be a cool little arena shooter, cool weapons and some nice stuff going on. But after it was pretty much left to rot it's now unable to be even played. In order to run the game at all (as it looks for the game's online servers) you need to play with steam set to offline. But now you can't even do that as it just completely dies at the main menu and won't even function. A completely broken, sad mess.
