Game doesnt work...spent 30 mins trying to generate the world. Edit: Developers are working on a fix Edit2: Thank you for the speedy troubleshooting. Dev's fixed my issue seems good and running well now. Game runs well and the backgrounds are cute. Love the Neos. Here is the thread with the discussion between the developers and myself: https://steamcommunity.com/app/4412590/discussions/0/570415649310052663
Well worth the $4 but lots of room to grow. To add onto what others have already said, this is essentially a live wallpaper instead of a game however it offers a very unique experience with the AI creature generation and the creatures range from creepy to adorable to everything in between. My game is currently sitting at 18gb after installing and updating to utilize the infinite engine which could be a deal breaker for someone struggling with space. The current limitation with coins is somewhat frustrating as you only get 1 coin from hatching a batch of eggs and it costs 1 coin to either adopt a creature or manually edit another you already have. Would love to see some additional ways to generate coins such as interacting with your creatures and additional ways to spend them such as on accessories, clothing, or additional landscape items (or as another user mention maybe being able to choose what animals are used to generate your next batch of creatures). The ability to modify your creatures offers a lot of creative freedom although a fill bucket type tool would simplify this process immensely. Overall this has been a cute relaxing side task to have up as I'm working during the day and anyone else looking for something similar should give it a shot. Edited: I also want to highlight how responsive and helpful the creator has been when responding to issues within the steam forums. I was reading through some threads prior to purchase and it's always nice to see someone who's passionate about what they've created.
Cute creatures
Edit: Just in case anyone was worried about being stuck with the in-game modifier tools: I've realized while modifying that you can actually select the critter (Ctrl + A) copy it (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) it into whatever paint program you use (like GIMP, for example) and edit it there, when done, copy it and paste it back into the game's modifier window. This honestly makes my initial complaint about the tools not really matter any more. I love being able to edit their colors and such as I feel like at all, so this still makes it even more of a nice feature with being able to do this. Original: Cute & simple. I think the tools for modifying the creatures could use a bit of work, what they have works, but is also a bit confusing. I think a way to select an area to fill-in color would be helpful if all you want to do is recolor and don't want to recolor everything the same color, as it is right now, as far as I could work out, you kind of have to use the paint tool manually for each change. Dunno how complex it would be to add a few more tools to simplify recoloring vs. adding/removing features, but it would definitely improve the tool. That being said, there's not really another idle collector like this that I can think of that lets you freely customize the pets this way, so it's still a bit of a gem in the genre. The AI generation does a good job, I've seen a few with some silly parts, but also some super cute and amusing ones as well. If you like idle critter collectors I think it's worth a checking out, especially if you have the hardware to use the AI generation as it definitely adds more variety. Also, for the dev, it would be interesting if a feature for "Breeding" or "Fusing" could be added, something with the AI that maybe takes all the stats of both creatures and makes a random generation combining random parts of the traits/animal combinations the "parents" had. Just for more focused-species-type generation experimenting.
My first pet was an adorable little guy. :) Pretty neat use of generative AI. It's mostly an interactive wallpaper, but hey for around 4 dollars it's not bad. The creatures are very cute. Plus it worked right out of the box for me. This is the kind of stuff I'd like to see GENAI used for, rather than replacing artists. Harmless little stuff like this.
It surely tickles my dopamine receptors in the right way. Love the ability to change creatures in any program and paste them back into the game. I can draw cute outfits and fix AI mistakes as much as I want!
Not really a game, but more of an interactive wallpaper. The player is mainly passive and, once the eggs have hatched, can choose and keep one of the generated creatures (if you don’t want to keep any of them, which happened to me just once so far, you can keep two next time). What’s nicely done here is that the creatures have their own element in which they live, i.e. they’re either on land, in water or in the air, and they actually stay in those places on the background. A suggestion for future development, given that there’s already the cool feature showing which animals a creature was generated from: it would be great to provide a selection option for the player, where you could specify in advance which animals you’d like to include in the next run (e.g. I’d like a hybrid of a bee, a spider and a mouse). That way, the player wouldn’t just be a spectator during the generation process, but could set the direction. All in all, a very enjoyable game that makes good use of generative AI in a fun way. It runs very well on my Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super, apart from the fact that the timer sometimes counts up instead of down during generation (which resolves itself by waiting, though).
