Schaut euch Fan-Adventures wie "Zak MacKracken - between time and space" oder "Baphoments Fluch 2.5 - Die Rückkehr der Tempelritter" an.
Nelson and the Magic Cauldron: The Journey is a nice point and click starter game with humorous lines, relaxing music and nicely drawn art. The game has 4 chapters the first one being the longest. I really enjoyed the last chapter. Veterans will probably finish the game in 60-90s minutes while occasional point and click gamers like me will take around 2 hours. The developers seemed to have hired many bilingual German and English voice actors. I thought the German accent was charming and funny. More importantly all the written text is voiced. Sometimes the voice acting is a bit too loud but is good in general. Overall i would recommend buying the game for occasional gamers but veterans might find it too simple.
A very short adventure game that plays without any hassle, but isn't really thrilling in any way. Look elsewhere if you're not a fan of adventure games. - Story; continues from the first game, which I haven’t played. For new players, a brief summary of earlier events might be helpful. - Localization; I assume the original version was written in German, so many of the jokes may have been lost in translation. The script looks good, with no obvious grammatical errors; however, the majority of it appears to be generic. - Speech; has the same problem as localization. I haven't tried the German version, which I'm sure is far superior, but the English version is lacking in both excitement and diversity. Despite the fact that there are multiple voice actors in this game, all of the characters sound the same. - Subtitles; need better placement. When you have a long sentence, the first or last letter touch the edge of the screen. - Lack of detail; some locations only feature the basic framework, with little or no objects to bring the setting to life. In the first chapter, the town square features one barrel, one wagon, and a few posters. Another square features a well in the center with a group of buildings surrounding it. You can't even look at the houses to learn more about the world. When you reach a scene that appears to be much better, the problem becomes more apparent. It gives the game a weird appearance, as if it was drawn by different artists. When it comes to water or air, there is likewise no animation. It's just a flat image that appears to be frozen in time. - The main character is rendered in a low-resolution. You can see the jagged edges when you bring him closer to the screen. - Items; good news is that there is no pixel/item hunting. Due to the lack of detail, the scenes usually contain only the items you can pick up. They’re immediately noticeable and hard to miss. - The puzzles are simple, and the item combinations are logical. You also don't amass a large number of useless items. - There are no quick travel options; double-clicking on exits does not skip the walking animation. At least one area in each chapter requires you to slowly move from one side to the other. The map available in the first chapter is fine, but this function is lost in other chapters while the icon remains. - Price; I rarely mention price because I believe that every work has value. Unless the gap between gameplay and value is simply too wide. This is, unfortunately, the case with this game. The current price (40% off) is a lot more consumer-friendly. - No achievements.
Nelson and the Magic Cauldron: The Journey is a very short and family friendly game. While the game is simple, it is truly simple to miss a key item at times which in turn makes you run in circle. The over all feel is good and the DEV did a great job. My only gripe with the game, is the price point. I think it is rather high and only recommend this game when on sale at a great reduction. Remember the game does not have much replay value for the buck and is about a 60 to 90 minute game play. Enjoy Blockhead APPROVED!!! Woah, that was a really bad experience. Lazy writing, wrong geometry, super easy puzzles, senseless story, mediocre jokes, short, English localization is even worse than the German speakers. You should not buy this game, under no circumstances.
Solid, straightforward, but short point-and-click adventure. As I understand, this game is the sequel to “Nelson and the Magic Cauldron” (without The Journey) which I unfortunately skipped, so the beginning was a bit confusing and some story parts flew over my head. Playing in order seems necessary, as there is little to no recap given here. The ‘puzzles’ aren’t exactly complex, so if you’re looking for a challenge, this might not be the adventure for you. This one’s more to unwind, with pretty clear solutions and little frustration. There is one odd (and unintentional -I would assume-) misdirection right at the start of the game though (minor spoiler):
In the first scene, a character tells you that a recipe / list of ingredients is found in the castle. There is no list - whatsoever. By the time you can enter the castle, you will probably have most of the ingredients already. Once you've found every ingredient (it’s a little unclear), speak to the first character again to resume the game.
You can fast-click through conversations (which is always a lifesaver when you have looping dialogue) and fast-travel via the map. I would have wished for the possibility to also just walk faster, but there is no option to do so, as far as I know. The voice acting is amateurish, but doesn’t distract too much imo ( I played in German, so I can’t judge the English version). One big flaw for me is the font choice however. It’s frankly just really bad. It was annoying to read and I can’t imagine how bad it would be for people who are visually impaired in any way. The humor didn’t hit for me either, it’s a bit juvenile. If you watch the trailer, you can pretty much guess the tone of the game, so you’ll see if it’s your cup of tea. You can also see the art style. And since art is subjective, I won’t comment too much on this. You can easily find the interactive objects and I thought the switch-up in the final chapter was pretty neat. tl;dr overall the game is fine. It was made by a single developer with little budget (kickstarted), which is quite a feat. So manage your expectations accordingly. (:
Fun little point & click adventure. Really not bad for an one person indie developer!
I like the music and the really lame jokes. The story follows on from the previous game but having not played it, I didn't really know what was going on. I am super happy that there is voice acting but the actor lack novelty. They all sound the same, despite being played by different people. Overall, this is pretty good. https://youtu.be/sJssGLI_wMY
Nice indie game, I haven't played point and click in a long time and it reminded me a bit of the monkey island series.
