A rather short but interesting Horror story. With 2 likeable leads and a nice conclusion. In terms of how scary this game is. I'd say it's creepy and unnerving but not too scary. No jump scares (at least I don't see them as jump scares, imo) and this game knows how to create a good tension. The artwork is very nice, I enjoyed it. My biggest con, i'd say that it was a bit too short. I finished the game in almost 2 and a half hours and that includes it's DLC. But even then it was very enjoyable. Definately try it out.
A great intriguing ghost and mystery story about a tragic murder and it's consequences for some of the tenants in a haunted apartment building. I really enjoyed this and it is actually my 1st visual novel. Recommended highly for those who really like a good ghost story. A story that reads more like a mystery than a real horror story, with the two main characters acting as detectives trying to uncover the tragic tale, of what happened in one of the apartment units nearest to them.
Neighbor has ended up being one of my favorite games of the year. Its a visual novel absent of choices (which is actually a real relief, none of that "Don't enter the room 4 times, just 3, but not 2," nonsense.) so a linear story that builds dread throughout. I watch alot of horror movies and play alot of horror games, but this game truly creeped me out so your milage may vary, but I feel like it hits alot of great notes.
Neighbor is an interesting horror/mystery Visual Novel. Primarily text based, with a limited number of backgrounds and occasional artwork, in monochrome. This is not a particularly frightening experience to read, while there are some creepy parts, solving the mystery of why supernatural things are happening is at the forefront. I’m not sure what the writers had in mind in terms of the tone- you spend almost the entire game with other characters, which is far less frightening than stories where you’re in over your head and all alone. But it does allow for some nice character development. The voice acting is realistic and carries emotion, without being over the top. The story is purely kinetic, with no choices, but there are occasional extra newspaper clippings and things you can read by clicking on highlighted words. Don’t expect massive shocking developments, or a surprise ending, it’s just not that kind of game. Enjoy unraveling the mystery and the interesting atmosphere and you’ll be all set. This is a 3-5 hour experience that can be finished on a rainy day, or a night alone, if you really want to set the mood.
个人很喜欢,因为最近在读小野不由美的残秽所以对于这种出租公寓的怪谈很感兴趣,不过可能因为个人英语水平太差读起来有点苦手,但好在有出色的配音玩起来不至于枯燥。
Good horror VN. Not sure if it worth the price, but I'm sure it's worth to be played. So, if this game on sale, or you have some spare money, I gladly recomend it.
For fans of Japanese horror and vns, but rather expensive for what it is
This visual novel has a plot and writing exactly like a script of a Japanese classic horror film. If you like Japanese horror and vns, it may be good, but overall I would not recommend it. It has a good ost, but has few songs, art in monochromatic shades of blue (most of the time) and retro is very beautiful but there are only few scenes, the voices are also good. The plot is short, less than 10 hours and the ending is a bit rushed, the mystery is easy for the reader to solve and everything is solved at once, the plot resembles a famous horror tale among horror book readers. The parts of terror are good, but they become repetitive. The game also closed itself three times (and it was not terror, it was just a crash). Overall, it's not a bad novel, but it's not good either, now at this price I'd say there are other better options. Note: avoid the dlc, it is not worth the price.
Pros: Creepy atmosphere. Good music. Excellent voice acting. Great translation. Immersive environment. Some genuinely spooky moments. Likable characters. Cons: No choices. One ending. It's kinda short if you advance text and interrupt the voice acting (I slowed down for spooky scenes). Some making light of the sexual harassment of men. Overall I recommend. I got it on sale. I'm on the fence on whether it's worth a full $15 for its length, but it's definitely one of the best horror VNs I've read.
Classic J-Horror, could easily have been a Japanese horror movie. Main game does not include any choices or interaction, you just click through the story. If that's what you're looking for, then you should check it out.
Not choices, so the story plays out as written but it's a solid spooky little tale. Worth a read!
