Need for Speed™ Payback

overall meh, could not feel it. Yeah the story is cool and all, but the cars felt light, impacts almost does not exist, you feel me? I mean the sound track is okay. The cars are cool and it's customization. But it doesn't feel right, The upgrade mechanics or parts sucks too, you could not just upgrade the car to it's most potential right a way even when you are already far progress in the story cuz you still have to buy the lower levels first then eat most of your time going back n fort to the tune up shop. Quite stupid.

I bought this game way back in 2021, played the prologue for a few mins, then I never touched it again until 2026. Here is my honest review of this game: I previously read reviews that this game was bad in comparison to Heat which I played a few years prior to this, however I wanted to give this game a chance since I watched many videos of it on Youtube. THE PROS: - Decent car selection and customization - Large map enjoyable for both casual driving and racing - Interesting map collectables and activities - Race Variety - Mac (Yes, I know he is cringy at times but dude is honestly energetic and I enjoyed the races when he was driving - Jess (Probably the only sane one who knows the seriousness of the plot, and some of her dialogue during the missions is hillarious) - Easter Eggs (If you pay attention to the names of the racers during races, you realize that some names ring a bell and reference previous NFS titles. Hell, even Aki Kimura from NFS Prostreet makes an appearance with his own crew.) Cons: - Car Part System (Honestly, can't tell you how annoying it is to farm parts and recycle them to get part cards and gamble for parts) - Tyler (I understand he is supposed to be this hotshot racer who wants to fix the racing league, but dude takes things too seriously almost everytime) - Story Progression (You wanna know what is the biggest sin? The game builds up the Outlaw's Rush as this big race at the end but nope, you get 2 Street Races and an Offroad Race, that's it. The game has all these racing classes yet they couldn't implement a Drift and/or Drag Race into the event. VERY BIG MISS) - Free Roam (Cops only appear during certain story events and never do they appear in free roam, therefore all the police sequences are scripted) - Racing League Leaders (I wish the racing league racers had their own in-game models during races and cutscenes. Mind you this is a game from 2017, by then they probably could've given the other side characters their own models and expressions) - Character Development (There could've been more character development between the 3 main heroes and the side characters. For example, I was actually enjoying the backstory between Tyler and Gallo Rivera. I wished they went further with their backstory and how they grew up back then.) - AI System (I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see so many of the AI racers crash and wipeout so easily and affect my driving. Honestly, sometimes I don't even feel like this game is a challenge even on Hard difficulty with such braindead drivers.) Overall Rating: 6.5/10 Is this game worth playing? Yes. Is it worth paying $30? No. In fact, wait until it is on sale.
