First point to be made: The game states that "Napoleon in Russia" recreates 5 historical battles from the doomed Invasion of Russia. All are small engagements. Not included is the climactic Battle of Borodino. Nor the perilous Crossing of Beresina. Given the simplicity of the game system, one has to wonder why this is so. Laziness? Which brings me to the second point. This game is far, far too simplistic to capture the essense of the Napoleonic warfare, an era when the Art of War reached its apogee (imho). Columns versus Line? Not here. The old SSG "Battles of Napoleon" game -- which ripped off earlier card board counter games -- is about 1000% better than this almost pointless game. (The hex logo of the game studio, originally belonging to Simulations Publications Inc. gave me hope; that expectation was vastly disappointed)
Covers the 1812 Russian campaign by Napoleon. Gameplay is as most HexWars games. Decent array of scenarios. If you are comfortable with HexWars style, recommended.
I played this for more than 10 hours before reviewed. Play system is firm and has a good feel to it. Easy to play, difficult to dominate. AI is good to tough. Solid game with some minor imbalances, but I will and have played it again and again. If its on sale, really consider getting it.
I like this game because it's made this year. I also like the concept of the game and everything else with it. Do you like it as well? If so, let me know. With love, Colton.
Great little game, no having to 'build your empire' like other games. Straight into troop deployment and battle and it's not always about destroying the enemy. Tactics can win you the game.
Отличная гексагонная настолка. Простая и интересная. Не хватает только больших карт и битв, и какого-нибудь рандомного противостояния.
+ Good old fashioned hex game. - Lacks the flavour of Russian battles. Could have been the their American Civil War game in different uniforms. Having just played their Waterloo game, I expected a big battle (eg Borodino), but all there were was some minor actions. If Borodino was too big it could have been several smaller scenarios.
I Have all the Hex Wars games and luv them all
Jeu assez simpliste.
This is miniatures without the need for large spaces. I enjoys the ease of play and yet the need for well thought out movements.
