At the time of writing, I have yet to finish the story (on what I assume is the last few levels). I wanted to write a quick review and warn about multiple flashing screens throughout the game that may cause epilepsy, including the very first one on start up. So if you are sensitive to flashing light, I'd suggest passing this one up for now. NAMELESS is a top-down shooter about an ex-con who is tasked with going up against his own people to save hostages and hopefully get freedom. The game implores both stealth and run-and-gun tactics with a variety of leathal and non-leathal weaponry. You complete rooms by killing or knocking out all enemies. Every so often, you can get coins and buy weapons. There is also a cloak mechanic that helps with sneaking and getting away in tight situations. As far as the gameplay goes, it's pretty fun. Controls feel smooth. Variety of weapons along with melee makes for longer enjoyment. Coin collecting is kinda trivial, but the new weapons gotten from it are nice. The graphics and animations are ok. Where the art design really excells is the music. There are very few tracks I dislike, and would love to listen to the soundtrack outside the game. The game has an alright story so far, although it's a bit much at times. To add to that, the tone is a bit tipsy as it goes from played straight to campy to silly to overly serious back to silly to horrifying to psycological etc... The begining doesn't really show how the later game will be, so I was a bit taken back when really serious subjects started to come up. Overall, the game is fun. I'd say if you are squeemish and/or very sensitive to mass killings/shootings that you should avoid this game. If you like top-down shooters, then it's right up your alley. P.S. I'll write a more complete review once I've played through the full story.
this game deserves way more love than the little it has currently, it is the only true hidden gem i know of.
NAMELESS is a novel-ish concept for a 2D retro pixel top down shooter, implemented terribly. It's a stealthy shooter that relies on your ability to avoid enemies and use the environment as well as your weapons if you're to rescue the hostages and complete your mission. Unfortunately just as a terrible game concept won't go anywhere with a trash quality implementation, a so/so game concept won't go anywhere with a trash quality implementation. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs. A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Tiny Warrior Games has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. NAMELESS has the ridiculous, laughable price of around $7 USD (you can get AAA games like Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor for less!), it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Amazing stealth based top-down shooter. You play as a convict who is offered a deal for a chance at freedom. Your mission is to save hostages in a hotel while fighting terrorists that you can either KO or kill. You ascend the hotel while having to deal with all sorts of bad guys, but things are not as simple as they seem. Also features mini games such as a giraffe platformer and a Galaga inspired shooter.
Yes, this game *is* a hidden gem. Fun gameplay with a story that does keep you gripped through the entirety of it, don't let simple graphics fool you or sway you. Lots of different weapons and playstyles to try out.
So I Has This Game By MY Frend When his Game Sell AnD Its Sooo Much Good And I got too many Ester egg Like DoG Make Sound Like CAt And The ChaT Of dEv and tooo much more.... Thanks For The Developter Make This Game
Some of the most satisfying core gameplay I've experienced in any video game. Each weapon feels excellent to use, and the variety gives you quite a bit of room in deciding how to approach encounters. But what truly makes the gameplay so special is the "cloak" mechanic. In essence, it's just a sprint that turns you invisible while it's active, but the brilliance lies in how useful it is no matter how you choose to play, allowing you to avoid fire and flank enemies when facing them head on or nimbly evade and sneak past them when aiming for stealth. Great choons, surprisingly fun minigames, and some pretty funny moments are just the icing on the cake. Frankly, I'm shocked that this game managed to completely fly under the collective radar. I urge anyone reading this to give it a shot, especially if you liked the Hotline Miami games that influenced it. Just don't expect the same level of difficulty. Rest in peace, Brandon Song. Your work may never garner the attention it truly deserves, but it managed to garner mine, and NAMELESS has quickly become one of my favourite games of all time. For that, I cannot thank you enough. God bless.
Never have i loved a game as much as i do with this one
Truly a hidden gem. Hope at some point more people will pick it up
