I like the artstyle of the game. It is fun to play and it also works on my steamdeck
REVIEW OVERALL: 4/5 Mythrealm is vary much a game of the early 2000's. I felt the same charm playing this game that i did with Shadow of the Colossus, God of War ii, Dark Souls i. Infact i wouldnt be suprised if you had told me this was a remaster of a old PS2 game. UI/CONTROLS 4/5 The Dev has left out much of what us modern gamers have grown accustomed to such as 'arrows' that say 'this way' or even a mini map, at first this is alittle jarring for some noobs. However this comes with its own perks such as the subtle joy of discovering a whole section of the level instead of checking a mini map for "where to go next". HOWEVER the controls for Key board and mouse are... interesting. But luckily you can change the key mapping. LEVEL DESIGN 5/5 The levels are simply superb. The parkour sections will give you many butt clenching moments. And the many secret items keep making you want to explore. GAMEPLAY 4/5 A few people have turned there noses up at this game due to "Back Peddling" being used as a main gameplay mechanic. However without the modern accommodations such as modern ui and modern level design. Back peddling becomes a skill all its own just like in the early PS2 era, You must time your rolls accurately, unless you might fall off the bridge you fighting on. If you keep backing up you will be cornered. The progression mechanics are vary rewarding. I personally prefer the arcane melee skills with dodge buffs. However there are many play styles to choose from. From the 360 no scope archer to the high HP tank. To the wizard fps style, to the dex based dps. there is alot of rewarding styles to choose from SOUND DESIGN 3/5 The sound effects are decent. The arent dynamic and feel artifical sometimes. The ost and VA is good though but i wish the sound mix had alittle bit more to write home about, all i can say is "its avarage" GRAPHICS 4/5 While playing mythrealm i realized the line art was vary cute a homely. it felt like i was playing a 3d representation of a classic disney animated film such as snow white. But the magic and fighting really made me feel like i was playing the 1st lord of the rings film from 1978. Summary: Good work from DeltaVGames. Not a masterpiece but certainly a love letter to a forgotten era of gaming. As of day 1 there are a few glitches but the Dev team is handling it with care.
I personally did not like this game because it feels like amateur game design. I did not refund it and decided to do everything in it to leave a full review. The Good: -Inventory is large -Enemies take different scales of damage based on weapon The Bad: -Enemy AI is awful. They stand around and let you kill them. -Most enemies can be stun locked with any weapon. -The mace deals top damage on everything. -All weapons swing the same making all melee boring -"Spellcasting" or shooting an orb from rod, is boring and slow. -Arrows are weak and near impossible to pick up off ground because of lack or reticle or focal point -Sound effects are AWFUL. The same sound from every enemy except the dragon. -Weapons swing through the enemy. -Level design is awful. I feel this way because most of the terrain is excessively hilly with one way to go making things feel very linear which this game is not intending for. One would think if a game is 90% platformer, the moving physics should be good. They are not yet. They are too floaty and aloof. Many of the traversal puzzles require precise movement. -Merchants are far and few between and do not refresh stock. Ever. which again is a problem because sometimes the only solution to these jumping puzzles is a jump potion (enemies should have a chance to drop these by the way) Suggestions: Merchants refresh stock per rest Wider selection Make weapons more unique or variant weapons Some type of upgrade mechanic Enemies should have low chance to drop rare loot Tighten player moving mechanics MAP! with (discovered) save and trader locations Diversify sound effects In summary, the game is in early access and it shows. This is certainly the dev's first game and he will need to work on it. In my opinion it is not in a state to be released yet. Check on this title in 2 years and see if they dev turned this still yet unformed clay into a grand statue.
I'm going to quote another reviewer, but with the proper recommendation ticked "it is janky and floaty and combat is garbage, but it provides a good sense of adventure. you basically go to a new zone, explore, fight the same one enemy (all the enemies in the game are the same reskined two, one melee and one ranged, except for some bosses), find loot an move on." To add some points: 1.If you try melee, have fun chasing the ranged characters around. Heck even the melee characters will just run around. 2. The platforming reminds me of Getting Over it but less precise and less rewarding. 3. You only get xp from bosses, mini-bosses, books and finding maps. 4. Save point resets mobs like a souls-like, doesn't replenish potions. i'd give 6 months to cook before trying. Controls need tightening, AI needs reworked, platforming needs to be made enjoyable. It looks ok and runs well, so it has that going for it.
Mythrealm is great if you like Dungeon crawlers and Soulslike games. Once you go through the first part of the game it gets serious pretty quickly. I already finished the Demo and i'm planning of finishing the game. Lots of weapons and ways to play aswell. Close quarter or mage/archer and great boss fights too!
You can download the demo and play it for a bit to try it out. It recognizes your Demo save game, so you can simply continue where you left off before. Looking forward the development in the future!
Wonderful art style! Terrible execution. If you dont mind jank and basic combat but enjoy armor loot and dungeon crawling this game might be for you. Dont know if its my cup of tea though.
I love the artistic design they used, and the concept is pretty fun. The use of the layout of how they have you explore to find secret hidy holes make it fun, the combat system is good for the type of game it is. very easy turtorial to follow and easy learning curve
This game is the best game I have played in a long time. I enjoyed every level of it. I felt a great challenge and I felt that it was fun.
I really love Mythrealm! I didn't dislike much of anything in the game! Mythrealm definitely has to be one of the most impressive indie games I've played! If you like games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild you'll LOVE this game. I enjoy how the player is not controlled by the story, and the world isn't claustrophobic at all. The animations and voice work really fit the atmosphere! This is seriously a hidden gem! It's one of those games you wish could never end! You can tell the folks at Delta put A LOT of love into this game, and they deserve some love.
