Mythic Kart Maker is part level maker, part fantasy kart racer. Vehicular combat, whimsical characters, & a vibrant 64-bit pre-rendered art style come together to create a chaotic, creative playground where you build the race - and then survive it.

About

Mythic Kart Maker is a fantasy Kart game where you make your own tracks while driving or from a top down perspective, & then share those tracks with your friends.

Gameplay is like a mix of the racing games from a certain bandicoot & a hedgehog that loves adventure.

Reminiscent of games from the 32 bit era - 3D tracks with pre-rendered billboard sprites. Easily add (not replace) your own character skins through included modding resources.

Boppin' fantasy tracks that sound like they're ripped from a lost game of the 90's. You can also add your own custom music to your tracks.

Didn't expect much for $12 but I've been having a blast with this. It's a kart racer where you build your own tracks, and the editor actually doesn't suck?? You can literally just drive around and lay track as you go, which is way more fun than it sounds. There's a top down mode too for the fiddly stuff. Driving feels closer to Crash Team Racing than Mario Kart imo. The drift is satisfying once it clicks. Items are dumb fun, there's a sword now lol Art style is very PS1/N64, sprite characters on 3D tracks. Either you love that look or you don't. I love it. Music slaps too and you can put your own songs on tracks you make. Dev is one guy and he's been pushing updates like every week since launch. New cave theme, unlocks, new items etc. Already feels like more game than the price tag suggests. If you grew up on Crash or Diddy Kong Racing and ever wished you could build your own tracks, just get it.
Core Kart Controller/Physics thoughts: - I love the precise feel of the controls, it makes hairpin turns feel really good to execute - It took me around 2-3 hours of playtime to realise there's a spin-trick control (left/right on the right joystick while in-air) - [strike] With how aggressive the item play is, having no way to look behind you/around you as well as the general lack of defensive options feels very limiting. Saying that, an item update is confirmed to be coming soon! [/strike] * - The tiers of the starting rocket boost feel unimportant. Only whether you get a rocket boost *at all* feels important. I think it's because the tiers affect duration of boost, but since everyone slipstreams at the start, they get the same length of boost as a blue tier rocket boost anyway Track thoughts: - My favourite tracks are ones that force me to engage all the mechanics - things like bounce mushrooms, booster pads, tight enough turns to force drifting (or even U-turning), narrow enough sections where AOE items can hit multiple opponents, basic changes in track elevation/landscaping, item-specific shortcuts. The best tracks look and feel really good, and the worse ones are generally missing some of the previously listed things - There are tons of great tracks available on the workshop - The track creation tools are generally easy to use, my only wish is that they gave you more granular control for things like landscaping, banking turns, etc - Some tracks are held back by CPU racers being unable to finish them, but this is less of a fault of the game and more of the track author (e.g. some tracks feature mushroom gap jumps, but getting stuck and respawning between the mushrooms is a common pain point for both human and CPU racers) CPU Racer thoughts: - Tracks that have a very good CPU + Item setup are generally hard to come first in - Getting hit by items from the front feels a little too frequent and unfair. It feels like you're guaranteed to be hit if you're near a racer when they pick up an item All in all, I like Mythic Kart Maker! The developer updates the game very frequently and is always using community feedback to improve it. The level editor will make the wheels in your head never stop turning. Don't let your ideas drift (known as Power Slide before Mario Kart Wii) away.
Mythic Kart Maker is an excellent game. The standard tracks are a good way to get used to the way the game plays. The most fun is developing and playing other people's tracks. I have made a few tracks so far, and even in the early times for this game, it is easy to do and great fun! If you are into Kart racing games, this may be a perfect fit for you. Highly recommended, and I am eagerly awaiting more features and models to be added to the game.
as of playing this game as long as i have so far it is very fun there is a lot of fun glitch's with the ramps but that might be patched by the time anyone sees this tho. my review might be a little biased since i've been following the dev on a lot social medias for about 4 years at this point. all i can say tho is that this game is 10/10
Mythic Kart Maker is a really fun kart racer but it's so much more than that. You can make your own tracks while you're driving around on the track. Creating tracks while driving is such a fun feature I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo stole this idea. The Steam Workshop racers and tracks add infinite amount of fun to the game as well. Looking forward to more user content and updates from the dev! It's a steal at this price imo.
the game is quick simple sometimes hairpulling frustratingly fun
Was given the key to try out and this game was an absolute blast. The game is actively being worked on and things added all the time. I cant wait to try out the track editor at some point. I tried out the racing and battle modes and with friends you can really bring back those old school kart memories from the snes days.
Mario Kart Maker 6/5
Best Mario Kart game on Steam. Online play would be crazy with friends.
