Mythic Kart Maker is part level maker, part fantasy kart racer. Vehicular combat, whimsical characters, & a vibrant 64-bit pre-rendered art style come together to create a chaotic, creative playground where you build the race - and then survive it.

About

Mythic Kart Maker is a fantasy Kart game where you make your own tracks while driving or from a top down perspective, & then share those tracks with your friends.

Gameplay is like a mix of the racing games from a certain bandicoot & a hedgehog that loves adventure.

Reminiscent of games from the 32 bit era - 3D tracks with pre-rendered billboard sprites. Easily add (not replace) your own character skins through included modding resources.

Boppin' fantasy tracks that sound like they're ripped from a lost game of the 90's. You can also add your own custom music to your tracks.

Hey, remember ModNation Racers? This is that, but better. Oh yeah, and the player-created content and online play should just about last until the heat death of the universe, instead of some arbitrary end date, so that's cool too!
Game is well made and the available osts are charming. I would appreciate more structure options in the future like a bridge
Dream Mix have genuinely created one of the most intuitive, in-depth & fun-filled kart makers ever! Personally, I haven't seen a concept like this since RPG Maker or even Mario Maker, yet, Mythic Kart Maker has different configurations to adjust the tracks, environment, characters & more to your liking (as you drive to create the track)! When I played other people's tracks (thanks to Steam Workshop), I was blown away by the creative & fast-paced track layouts, which I haven't seen since many PC multi-player games I used to play in the last decade! With the game/Maker still being in Early Access, I still see the great potential in new updates, challenges, tracks & many more additions enhancing the quality of what is being delivered currently (which is fantastic)! Even the 64-bit rendering is extremely nice to look at between the characters & tracks, alongside a beautiful soundtrack that I have been humming for days. If you're wanting to race your creativity onto any sort of terrain or track, get to it! This game will absolutely be handled well & have some great post-early access support! :)
Already in early access state it's well worth the price. They already perfectly nailed the driving meanwhile the level maker easy to use and offers a lot of resources to make some crazy tracks.
This is the game i've always dreamed of. The game keeps things simple so its easy for anyone to get in a make a track. I love that I can drive and build at the same time. In all that goodness my only real complaint is the lack of options, while yes it easier to just make a track and play it an option to edit the lap count, items, etc yourself would be nice.
As a kid when Mario Maker came out in the WII U, I've wished there was a game like this for Mario Kart that wasn't as complex as modding the game. This is a really good game! The controls are good the building tracks is fun and playing other peoples tracks are fun too! Also the character mods are cool too (I've been making some) I do hope some features get added in the future such as having split paths, some more level obstacles, or even a way to have tunnels in some way to be able to make a track go under a track. Overall from what we have so far I would give this an 8/10.
Mythic Kart Maker is basically what it sounds like. A kart maker that allows you to make your own tracks inspired by games like Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64. It gets right to the point. No story, tutorial, or any other fluff. Just play courses made by the developer, other Steam users, or make your own. The great thing about this maker is it's ease of use to make your own courses to the point where even someone like me can manage it. At the same time, it offers a fair amount of options to make your course stand out from the others. Several grass/dirt painting options, obstacles like trees and rocks, item placements, mushrooms that bounce you into the air, and the biggest game changer, being able to adjust the terrain. There's many ways you can use it, from simply using it to make small height adjustments to your track as you drive, making mountains with it, and even getting creative by adjusting the terrain to create a ramp that launches you into the air, creating super long jumps. A reminder that you can also use the Steam workshop to download other tracks created by Steam users, and even other characters! The developer has been very active on continuing work for Mythic Kart Maker, so if the idea of making your own original courses or remakes from other games sounds interesting to you, just remember it's only gonna get more content from here. Recommended for those who love Mario Kart or other Kart games, and want to make tracks with an easy to use track editor!
Mythic Kart Racer hits that Rare note of an addicting kart racing game with an ideology of Play Create and Share. plus the PSX/N64 pixel style just added to the already amazing cake. -2025 (early access) Sadly as of 2026: the creator was called out for using AI in the development of the game instead of acknowledging the blunder and promising to do better he doubled down and deleted the review , which kind of killed a lot of my hype for modding the game as a whole. RIP
Incredible for a one man indie project in all honesty, the only thing I can say to start with is this. If you're looking at this game at all, chances are you are the target audience and this game is absolutely worth your money and time. The game is still in early access of course but there's a lot to it even at this point. I've had a lot of fun with the level editor, it's where I've spent the majority of my time, it really is like Mario Kart 64 + Crash Team Racing + Super Mario Maker altogether but on crack. I don't try new games out very often but this one caught my eye and I knew I wanted it, to be completely transparent I did receive this game from the developer with the promise I'd stream the game, but I can and would see myself throwing £10 at this game and still thinking I got a good deal. I won't go in detail about all the little things I like, it really is an experience you only understand by playing it. It's a lot of fun, you get to design tracks with an intuitive level editor and play tracks made by others, as well as make and use custom characters from the Workshop. There is so much potential to this game and I'm so excited to be along for the ride to see where it ends up. I highly recommend this game to the average kart racer fan, I love Mario Kart and I also absolutely love this game too. Get yourself a copy of this game, make some tracks, try some other people's tracks and have fun.
Core Kart Controller/Physics thoughts: - I love the precise feel of the controls, it makes hairpin turns feel really good to execute - It took me around 2-3 hours of playtime to realise there's a spin-trick control (left/right on the right joystick while in-air) - [strike] With how aggressive the item play is, having no way to look behind you/around you as well as the general lack of defensive options feels very limiting. Saying that, an item update is confirmed to be coming soon! [/strike] * - The tiers of the starting rocket boost feel unimportant. Only whether you get a rocket boost *at all* feels important. I think it's because the tiers affect duration of boost, but since everyone slipstreams at the start, they get the same length of boost as a blue tier rocket boost anyway Track thoughts: - My favourite tracks are ones that force me to engage all the mechanics - things like bounce mushrooms, booster pads, tight enough turns to force drifting (or even U-turning), narrow enough sections where AOE items can hit multiple opponents, basic changes in track elevation/landscaping, item-specific shortcuts. The best tracks look and feel really good, and the worse ones are generally missing some of the previously listed things - There are tons of great tracks available on the workshop - The track creation tools are generally easy to use, my only wish is that they gave you more granular control for things like landscaping, banking turns, etc - Some tracks are held back by CPU racers being unable to finish them, but this is less of a fault of the game and more of the track author (e.g. some tracks feature mushroom gap jumps, but getting stuck and respawning between the mushrooms is a common pain point for both human and CPU racers) CPU Racer thoughts: - Tracks that have a very good CPU + Item setup are generally hard to come first in - Getting hit by items from the front feels a little too frequent and unfair. It feels like you're guaranteed to be hit if you're near a racer when they pick up an item All in all, I like Mythic Kart Maker! The developer updates the game very frequently and is always using community feedback to improve it.
