Short and sweet action-platformer that I can see myself replaying for better scores and higher difficulties. Really nails the DOS style and feel.
A short but sweet homage to the MS-DOS era of platformers like Commander Keen and Duke Nukem made by 3D Realms.. or as it used to be known, Apogee Software. Colourful adventures split into multi-stage "episodes" where you have to find stronger weapons and make your way to an exit. MURI has four episodes, each of them comprised of four levels and then a boss fight. There are several difficulty settings and the higher you go the bigger your score multiplier. Easy is 1x, Normal is 2x, Hard is 3x, and the MURI difficulty is 4x. Every stage has a hidden time bonus that starts at 8000 points and ticks down as you play. At the beginning, end, and occasionally in the middle you were have brief cutscenes where Adwoa, the lady you're playing as, makes observations or encounters bosses. The story is.. odd, perhaps as part of their homage to the time or simply because part of the script is missing. I was fascinated by the story being told but by the end I was kinda left scratching my head. My first foray was on Normal difficulty and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It was a blast! MURI difficulty is very challenging but once enemies are dead they stay dead.. but that includes energy pick-ups, so use them wisely if necessary.

Scratched that EGA itch.
Yes.
People like me, who grew up playing MS-DOS platformers like Duke Nukum (Yes that was his name back then, look it up) or Commander Keen, will feel right at home.
It presents itself as a classic DOS action-platformer with a highly faithful recreation of their style and limitations, but it is SO-MUCH-MORE. It's PLAGUED with secrets, and when you start to understand their logic, you can't stop, it is SO satisfying getting to uncover all the secrets and unravel its exciting story... I beat it in my first sitting and had a total BLAST. If you like this classic kind of games, it will surpass all your expectations.
Shoulda given it a thumbs up a long time ago, but this a fun and very replayable retro platformer. Good enemies and environments, powerful weapons with limited ammo, 4 difficulties, and hidden items if you want to get 100%. There are some retro traditions it could've left behind to improve the game, like the lack of key rebinding, and the complete lack of music outside the title and credits, but even without DOS nostalgia they're not huge drawbacks. It's the kind of game you'll come back to for a 10th playthrough because it's been a while, and you're in the mood for a quick, simple platformer with cool robots and aliens.
A fun and very interesting example of level design. Try the demo! (There are things I'd change about the difficulty scaling, since health and life pickups appear to be core mechanics. Also, the MKV should do as much straight-forward damage as the Rapid. But the art is quite pretty, and the plot has been interesting so far, and I really do like how you automatically equip the best weapon you have ammo for.)
