Lucky me has the dubious honour of writing the first English review for yet another Anamik Majumdar cash grab. Balloon Azuna is a template flip from Anamik Majumdar, who keeps reskinning the same lame GameMaker Studio game templates and re-releasing it on Steam with a few minor changes. The GameMaker Studio templates he keeps re-releasing are just basic retro pixel (couldn't he rip off a template with proper graphics??) 2D top down/platformer stealth/action games. This one is the 2D retro pixel platformer template he's stamped out a few times. Here's some other results of his copy+paste school of "game development":

Haunted Jail: Alcatas
Ghost in the Barn House
Gaze at Maze
Smash Halloween Pumpkins: The Challenge
The Chills
Gregor Hills Haunted Hospital
Jaxon The Thief
House Number 666
My Haunted Doll
Axizon Labs: Zombies
The Haunted Exmone Theatre
Rescue Rina
The Haunted Tunnel
Heltons Haunted Hotel
Gaze At Maze
Ghost In The Barn House
Zack Y
Fight For Love
Captain: The Runner
Take a look yourself, these are all basically the exact same GameMaker Studio game template with a different skin and a couple of things changed. No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. No matter how many times this guy copy+pastes the same game, it's not suddenly going to become anything but garbage. Rehashing the same game over and over again is just a cheap nasty cash grab. While Anamik Majumdar has occasionally ignored Valve guidelines for partners and attacked reviewers, any legitimacy he may have is eracticated by the way he pumps these copy+paste asset flips out and bulk sells keys to crapware bundle merchants like DailyIndieGame. It's also important to note Anamik Majumdar has denied using GameMaker Studio to make his asset flips, despite every single one being made with GameMaker Studio. It's unclear why Anamik Majumdar has been misleading about these templated cash grabs. As usual, my recommendation is to never give money to asset flippers and construction kit copy+paste cash grabs, so don't reward this one.
Got this from a friend as a joke. The game is incredibly bad. The controls are dreadful and everything slows down when you are jumping and falling. You can hit your head in an invisible ceiling, making you bounce down, usually to your doom. There are quite a few boxes in the game. Some contain helium crates (that prolong the timer), some you can stand on and some you just fall through and there is not clear way of knowing which in advance. Speaking of falling, you can fall quicker than the screen scroll, which is an interesting "design choice"... The game has a health bar but it's completely useless since all enemies kill you with one hit, except for projectiles which damage you so little that it doesn't matter. Don't get this game.
花了0.1元买的CDKEY,本游戏本质上是一个换皮复古2D搜集星星的横板冒险小游戏,流程很短,仅需一个小时就能通关,好赤爱赤(不是。不推荐游玩(除非你实在是很闲
Balloon Azuna is a colorful retro-inspired platformer that feels like a direct homage to the classic side-scrolling adventures that once dominated arcades and early console gaming. Developed and published by Anamik Majumdar, the game embraces old-school gameplay design while introducing its own whimsical personality through a combination of magical powers, military-themed environments, pixel-art visuals, and lighthearted storytelling. At first glance, the game appears simple and modest in scope, especially compared to larger indie platformers available on modern storefronts, but beneath its straightforward presentation lies a surprisingly charming experience driven by creativity, sincerity, and a clear affection for classic arcade-era game design. It may not revolutionize the platforming genre, but it succeeds in delivering an entertaining and nostalgic adventure that feels crafted with genuine enthusiasm. The story centers around Azuna, a young girl gifted with unusual magical powers capable of influencing the minds of others through heart-shaped energy attacks. Her peaceful life is shattered when her brother and several of his friends accidentally wander into a highly restricted military area controlled by a secretive organization experimenting with dangerous technology. Instead of helping the children escape, the military captures them and imprisons them deep within the facility. After her attempts to negotiate fail completely, Azuna decides to infiltrate the dangerous complex herself in order to rescue her brother and expose the organization’s cruel activities. The narrative follows a very traditional arcade-style structure where the protagonist must overcome increasingly dangerous stages to save a loved one, but the simplicity of the premise works surprisingly well because the game never tries to overcomplicate its story. It understands that the primary focus is platforming action and adventure rather than deep narrative drama. One of the strongest aspects of Balloon Azuna is its visual identity. The game fully commits to a colorful pixel-art presentation that immediately captures the feeling of older side-scrolling platform games from previous gaming generations. Bright environments, exaggerated enemy sprites, vibrant particle effects, and expressive character designs combine to create a cheerful arcade atmosphere despite the military setting. The stages feature laboratories, industrial corridors, futuristic facilities, underground complexes, and trap-filled environments packed with enemies and hazards. While the graphical quality is naturally limited by the scale of the project, the consistent art direction helps the game maintain its own identity. Every level feels handcrafted with a strong appreciation for retro aesthetics, and the use of bright colors ensures that the gameplay always remains visually readable even during chaotic moments filled with enemies and environmental dangers. Gameplay revolves around traditional platforming mechanics mixed with Azuna’s magical abilities. Unlike many retro platformers that rely entirely on guns or melee combat, Balloon Azuna uses heart-shaped magical attacks capable of changing enemy behavior and neutralizing threats in a less violent and more playful manner. This mechanic gives the game a distinctive personality because combat feels more whimsical than aggressive. It also creates a refreshing contrast against the military and science-fiction themes surrounding the game’s environments. Instead of controlling a heavily armed soldier or warrior, players guide a magical protagonist who uses charm-based powers to survive dangerous situations. The mechanic may appear simple, but it gives the game a unique identity that separates it from more generic indie platform shooters. Movement and controls are generally responsive enough to support the game’s fast-paced platforming structure. Players must jump across hazards, avoid enemy attacks, navigate moving platforms, and react quickly to traps spread throughout the levels. The game gradually increases the challenge by introducing more complicated platforming layouts and denser enemy placements as the campaign progresses. Early stages ease players into the mechanics, while later levels demand much greater precision and timing. There is a satisfying rhythm to the gameplay once players become comfortable with Azuna’s movement and attack patterns, especially during sections that combine platforming hazards with enemy encounters simultaneously. The level design itself demonstrates a noticeable effort to maintain gameplay variety throughout the adventure. Across fifteen stages, players encounter laser traps, spike pits, moving machinery, collapsing platforms, hidden items, and enemy ambushes that constantly encourage careful movement and exploration. Some levels emphasize precision platforming with tightly placed hazards, while others focus more heavily on enemy encounters and resource management. Collectibles such as health items, magic resources, gas containers, and stars encourage players to thoroughly explore environments rather than rushing directly toward the exit. This exploration element helps make levels feel more interactive and gives players additional motivation to replay stages for better performance or missed items. Enemy variety also helps maintain the pacing effectively. Standard enemy soldiers form the foundation of most combat encounters, but the game gradually introduces stronger opponents, ranged attackers, automated defenses, and environmental threats that require players to adapt their movement and timing. Certain enemies are designed to pressure the player aggressively, while others force careful positioning due to projectile attacks or defensive barriers. Although enemy AI remains fairly basic overall, the increasing complexity of level layouts and hazard combinations helps prevent the gameplay from becoming too repetitive too quickly. The soundtrack fits the game’s retro arcade identity extremely well. Upbeat electronic tracks and energetic background themes create a sense of momentum throughout the adventure, especially during more difficult platforming sections and enemy-heavy stages. Sound effects are intentionally exaggerated in classic arcade fashion, giving attacks, item pickups, and environmental hazards a satisfying audio presence. While the audio design may not be particularly advanced from a technical standpoint, it complements the visual presentation effectively and reinforces the nostalgic atmosphere the game is trying to create. One of the most admirable aspects of Balloon Azuna is the clear sense of passion behind the project. Knowing that the game was largely created by a solo developer adds additional appreciation for the amount of content and variety included throughout the experience. The game constantly feels like a labor of love built by someone with genuine affection for retro platformers and arcade adventures. That enthusiasm becomes especially important because it helps the game overcome many of its technical limitations. Even when certain mechanics feel rough or outdated, there is still an undeniable charm in the way the game commits fully to its old-school identity without trying to imitate modern blockbuster trends. For players who enjoy retro-inspired platformers, pixel-art adventures, and indie games with strong nostalgic energy, Balloon Azuna offers a fun and heartfelt experience filled with colorful environments, magical combat, and old-school arcade pacing. Its technical roughness and repetitive elements prevent it from reaching the highest level of indie platforming excellence, but its charm, creativity, and passion-driven design still make it a worthwhile experience for fans of smaller independent projects. It succeeds not because it is flawless, but because it fully embraces its identity as a cheerful retro platforming adventure made with genuine enthusiasm for the genre. Rating: 6/10
