About
You are Muffles, a surgically mangled inmate of the Maddox Prison System with a stolen past and the power to wear the faces of others. Freshly sentenced to life in prison with no memory of the crimes you’ve committed, you must go on a journey spanning a chain of prison islands to confront the Warden and discover the truth of your past.
From Mt. Hyup's frozen mountaintops to the sweltering desert of Jangus, travel the Maddox Nation over five gripping chapters full of twists, mysteries, and shenanigans. Gather allies, defeat your foes, and find out who you really are.

At Maddox Prison, every inmate is surgically altered to make their face and body match the crimes they committed. Meet a colorful cast of characters and rip their faces off.

Muffles: Faceless inmate with no idea how they ended up in prison. Did the surgeons really need to sew their mouth shut?

Scarlet: Pseudo-religious figurehead who has promised freedom in exchange for the Warden's head.

Shatter: Gang leader of the WARDEN KILLERS. He's mostly just recruited Pettys for now- but just you wait!

Constant: Anxious android security officer. He's gotten a bit addicted to shocking himself to help clear his mind. I'm sure that will end well.

Pettys: Petty criminals rendered spineless after a little soft lobotomy.

Half-Croc: Mostly teeth, anger, and a childhood filled with poor role models.

Engage in turn-based deckbuilding combat with no grinding or random encounters. Unlock new cards by collecting the faces and memories of other inmates, then mix and match to create your own unique playstyle.

Very good game I couldn't get enough of it. I love everything about it.
MLS is a pretty good game. I bought and played up to the latest chapter (Ch. 4) and can't wait for Chapter 5. I feel as though I didn't collect enough upgrades and items for my deck, but it didn't stop me from reaching the end. There's a lot to remix and use, so you won't regret buying the episodes. The concept of this game in my opinion isn't one to miss out on. If you're searching for an indie game to sink into, I'd try it out. The characters and storyline are intriguing. I'll miss it after the last episode, there are few studios who make RPG's in this way today.

really good. the gameplay is easy to familiarize yourself with, i love the puzzle/storyline of it all. im curious if im missed things in chapter one. i may continue and purchase the other chapters. i recommend this if you like light card games, characters, and good story based games with basic puzzles.
incredibly underrated game i love it
Although I recommend this game overall I do have some caveats. The biggest is the plot, it starts fairly simple enough (although completely bonkers in the best way) but I feel like around episode 3 or 4 it started getting a bit out of control and overly complicated, and I say that as a huge Kingdom Hearts fan. The other caveat is later in the episodes there are some frustrating level design choices and gimmicks for sections that felt tacked on or tedious (a couple of the puzzles, trial and error dark section in E5, not being able to see how to complete two different parts in E5, etc.). BUT all that being said, this has gotta be one of the most creative, funny, and fun games I've played in 2025-2026. Despite my criticisms I think this is a great game and I'm super excited for whatever Bossy does next. Long live Dee!
just finished this game and i think it is probably one of the best story games ive ever played the combat is fun the story is great and the characters are probably the best part easily recommend
Really enjoyed this game. I initially bought it when it was per episode but I think it's great that it's all one thing now because it ruuuules and you will not just want to buy the first chapter and leave it there. I'm not usually a deckbuilder person but I enjoyed the story and world so much that I got over it and ended up with a pretty sweet build. Charming game! I recommend!
This game has incredible storytelling and style, and a lot of humor. It's a shame it has so few reviews on Steam, though I suspect releasing each episode independently (originally) may have broken up several of the reviews to those other chapters. TLDR; Far from 'another RPGmaker game'. Muffles Life Sentence, especially the combat, won't be for everyone, but it's worth your attention. It's clear a lot of work went into the battle system, and I enjoy making decks, however, the card selection feels quite limited. When unlocking a new 'set' you only get three cards, which isn't quite enough to make a deck specializing in whatever new mechanic or feature provided. I typically have to wait to unlock a couple more cards before being able to specialize a deck. So far I keep using the crutch of Killer Crocs deck and dishing out as much damage as quickly as possible. Since you fully heal after each fight, the best defense truly is offense. The gun cards I got in mid Chapter 2 looks like they will synergize quite well with some cards I have, but I need much more Brain Size to really get a good build going, Despite those gripes; the battles are all incredibly unique, and those are mostly about boss fights, not random encounters, meaning you can soak in everything else on the way. This *also* means that some of these fights are incredibly challenging, and might block less experienced players from progressing. Honestly, if I would recommend something to the dev, a 'story difficulty' might be worth adding so that people who don't jive with the combat can still see Muffles entire adventure.
Cheeky little RPG game about the prison industrial complex and how it strips people of their individuality and identity. A good 20 or so hours of playtime, each chapter lasting 3-4 hours. A lot of that time is spent doing puzzles and searching for collectibles and whatnot. PROS: Decent music Unique, good art direction Likeable characters Decent worldbuilding and story Lots of achievements and collectibles if you're into that Exploration with unique abilities CONS: Combat is repetitive and easy, deckbuulder aspect is pretty meh, most new cards you get are kind of there for novelty and the game heavily relies on the guard mechanic, which makes most cards kind of obsolete. The most difficulty you'll see is fighting Nightmares and the last two episodes but still not much to speak of Lots of flashing lights and effects, as far as I looked there's no way to really turn this off and they're pretty eye straining, if you're photosensitive this game might not be good for you Really easy puzzles Overall, good game. Solid 8-9/10, in my opinion. Just don't expect a lot of strategy and difficulty in the gameplay.
