A hidden gem of a metroidvania, however, it's rather on the quick and easy side. I think I got genuinely stuck and had to start over twice? But I really enjoyed this game, and I think more people should check this game out! Especially if metroidvanias are your thing.
Genuinely fun game, though unless you're a completionist it is a relatively short game. The setting is certainly unique and the story is relatively interesting, a vast majority of the characters are likable and memorable, to the point I'm sad there probably won't be any further games with them in it, especially Laguna... I don't play many Metroid-like games so maybe I'm just bad, so take the following with a grain of salt. The difficulty varies greatly throughout the game, most of it is fairly standard with 3 or 4 sections being balls to the walls hard, also I had more difficulty with the second boss fight than I did with the the ones near the end including the final boss fight, though maybe I improved slowly as I played (also having more characters/abilities/lives available). I enjoyed it a lot from start to finish but I admit those 3 or 4 hard sections almost put me off, the change in difficulty was going from a 1 to 10 all of a sudden. Tiny spoiler for this bit ahead... in the final boss fight, the main characters can die permanently if you fight carelessly, if this happens you can restart the fight from the pause menu, to get any other ending than the happy one would have been gut wrenching...
Fantastic game! Everything I was looking forward to in a metroidvania style game. Characters are wonderful, artwork is amazing, world is fun and creative, and well crafted. I hope to see more games from Seafloor Games.
It's a very interesting take on the Metroidvania genre, but the biggest draw is the party member swapping, being able to switch between 2-4 movesets on the fly, each with distinct personalities and combat styles is very interesting. The writing is a little flat, but has heart. You won't regret reading through any of the cutscenes the game throws your way. All-in-all, a good little game with big ideas and good execution.
This game falls, I think, under the "minivania" category, and should be judged as such: it's short (I beat it in under 7 hours with high, though not 100%, completion), but full-featured. The art and writing is charming, the gameplay carries the length, and the overall experience is satisfying. It's worth the price of admission, especially on sale, but even at full price if the speedrun features are attractive enough to prompt a replay or two. I think I'm fine with what I've experienced, but I've got no regrets and I am looking forward to the studio's next effort, hopefully something with somewhat wider scope since they have the talent for it.
The premise is good and the abilities feel kinda fresh, but... - Got lost just one hour in. Had to look for a guide just to know where to go next. -- The map lacks detail, so it leads to lots of false positives at the time to plan your way through, or trying to figure out where to go. This also leads to unnecessary backtracks, given how the game's fast travel system works. - Got to a place where, for no damn reason, there are no checkpoints (and there's no way to get out of there to try and get collectibles / get stronger, aside of moving forward). The second time I died, I refused to repeat the zone yet again. Terrible idea, just for the sake of wasting the player's time. - Rough on the edges on other aspects, such as some enemy attacks, enemy damage / lack of healing... but I'm no dedicating more time on this.
Moonlight Pulse is an underrated gem of a Metroidvania. The core features of the movement tech and party selection are excellent, and its incredibly satisfying to move around the map. The boss fights are unique, fun and very cool, and the setting is very interesting. The main criticism is that the map can be hard to work out, and it's very easy to get lost or stuck because you can't visually work out how to get from point A to point B.
I got this game as a bundle and wasn't expecting much of it. But the more I play, the more I love it. It's an amazing Medroidvania/puzzle platformer. Highly Recommend.
A cool short metroidvania with interesting ideas. Played most of it on Steam Deck. (+) Runs great on SD (+) Interesting premisse of a story. I kiinda liked it (+) The idea of switching characters all the time to use their abilities was fun (+) Short but very well paced (+) Some interesting achievements but I won't bother for 100% (0) Writing is ok I guess (-) One of the characters was not that great to control (can't really remember the name, but the one with the machine) (-) The map and fast travel was not for my liking even though the it is a great idea
