I first of want to thank the publisher and/or developer for offering me a free evaluation key of this class Commodore 64 game remake here... I'm going to recommend this game because if you are a fan of the classic 80's "Montezuma's Revenge" then you'll likely enjoy this game. Even the frustrating little nuances such as needing to put one stop off of a ledge before jumping to avoid death are here in this 40th edition remake. ..I don't know "why" they decided to keep so many of the same frustrating elements but I guess that it's part of the "nostalgia". What I am NOT going to recommend is buying this at it's current asking price of $20 for the 40th Anniversary Edition and $40 USD for the "Deluxe" edition which includes a more true to life representation of the old classic 1983 game on the good ol' Commodore 64. ..Nostalgia is cool, but it's not "this" cool guys! It's fine for what it is. It's a cool remake for sure and it's still fun to play. The problem is today, this is competing against thousands of much deeper and more "fun"m indie games at less than half th price. ..I guess that it really just depends on how much you want to fork over for the nostalgia of playing "Montezuma's Revenge". https://youtu.be/LB8n0eHqgt4 To show WHY This game is just ridiculously over-priced, let's take a look at an indie game that just launched on the exact same day, January 16th, 2025 and another game with the word "Revenge" in the title.. Oh the irony.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKyLA9FQpLM ^^ This game has 10x the graphics, it plays 10x times better with insanely high quality movement and control, and is at least 10x as much fun.. at 1/4th of the asking price. RECOMMENDED... if you can get it on sale, or if money is no obstacle to you. It's fun, but it's aged a LOT even with all the updated graphics and mechanics.
Platformer + Metroidvania + Adventure. Explore the pyramids, collect artifacts and keys to unlock the doors and fight Montezuma. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/P6Qrhj3lvbA You can play as Pedro or his sister Rosita. You start the adventure from the very top of the pyramid. You need to search all the floors and collect masks (the compass points to the locations of the masks). Some rooms are locked, you need to find and bring the keys. You need to avoid not only enemies and traps, but also falls. In this game, the character loses life even when falling from a small height! Enemies can be killed with swords or electric shock (disposable, disappear after use). You should also take into account that the lower floors of the pyramid are dark. So stock up on torches! When you collect all the masks, you can fight the boss - Montezuma. After winning, you will receive a golden key; you can take the treasures and go to the next level. Stara dobra Montezuma'z grafiką 2,5D. Dla starych wyjadaczy 8 bit Atari Gra wymiata.
For my full review read here: https://nintendroid.org/post/773231074942828544/revenge-is-best-served-lukewarm-disclosure-i Short summary: Fun, old school, but wait until it goes on sale.
Graphics felt cheap and rushed. Gameplay wasn't there. Prefer the original.
Really interesting remaster this Montezuma's Revenge - The 40th Anniversary Edition.
Joguinho bacana, remake do clássico de 1983-84. Bem desafiador, assim como o clássico. Joguinho bem divertido pra passar o tempo...e raiva também. Enfim, eu recomendo se você curtir esse tipo de jogo.
