Bottom of the 9th

Bottom of the 9th is a stellar recreation of the surprisingly crafty board game. This is not a simulation of baseball in its entirety. There are no tables and charts and multi-season spreadsheets of management tools. This is, as the name of the title implies, a cut to the chase, "in the moment" duel between pitcher and batters. It's quick, it's decisive, it's cat and mouse. This is not a dice fest of chucking dice, wildly guessing possible pitches out of nowhere and leaving the results to chance. There is guesswork, but it's narrowly defined and scoped to plausible situations. Example: The pitcher is fatigued, thus he can't use his ace pitch. Batter will have a narrow set of possibilities. Or, pitcher is *close* to fatigued, but not quite. Will they try and slip in a quick ace pitch at 2-0? Or will they try to deceive and outthink the batter? Another game, Baseball Highlights 2045, is a solid gem, probably the best baseball simulation game I've ever played in both digital and analog formats. The inevitable comparison between the two will conclude (for me) that BH2045 is the best game overall, but Bot9th stands solidly in its own right as a faster, tense experience. Digitally speaking, Bottom of the 9th on digital platform is straightforward. The tutorials are precise and not elongated with fluff. The game UI is easy to understand, the extra modes are pleasant diversions and add more than the analog game. Baseball Highlights:2045 was a pretty lackluster digital experience; in fact, it was probably subpar and didn't really showcase the board game it was based on as well as it ought to have. This is not true for Bottom of the 9th, which definitively presents the board game with its best foot forward. For the $5 I paid for it, it will be one of those 'exploding gems' that gives way, way, way more value than the cost.

Really, that intro song alone is nearly worth the price. Who doesn't love that song? They must have blown 90% of their budget getting that recorded. I had this on my wishlist, and came back the to the store page a few times just to hear the song, then bought it. This isn't a typical baseball game at all. You could say it cuts out all of the boring bits, along with some realism (there are no errors for example). It hyperfocuses on a few batters, in one half inning. Only one half inning... if the Home Team doesn't score, it's assumed that the Visitors win in extra innings. So it definitely does a great job of building tension and, there being some RNG, you're never going to win every time even if you're an expert. I personally think the game works too hard to present itself as a board game, with the rolling dice for each move that would likely get old after a while. But that's purely about your taste. I'm not too much into it, but the game is still well worth it yo me. You might love that asthetic. I didn't buy it at full price, but I wouldn't have a problem recommending a full price buy on this one. The atmosphere and replayability are fantastic for such a small game.

This game is almost fun but it ultimately just comes down to rolling dice when you make contact to see if you are safe or out. Whoever rolls a 5 or 6 wins. I do like the idea of the campaign series but again it just comes down to these simple rolls. There is very little you can do to mitigate this. No matter how well you strategize your lineup and batting in the campaign it just comes down to rolling dice and seeing who rolls a 5 or 6 first. I think that wouldn't be so bad if you played an entire game but to lose a game after making contact and losing this dice roll for three batters is just frustrating because then you lose the game.

This is a fun little game brought to cardboard and inc from Greater than Games, and made into 1s and 0s by Handelabra. It's a fun little game where you play the last inning of a tied game of baseball. Playing as either the batters or the pitchers are very fun and can provide some light entertainment for about 10 minutes to a half hour at a time. There is a bit of a downside where you have to pay attention to the tutorial to understand what all the dice mean, but if you get past that, there is a fun lighthearted game that you can enjoy. Just a note, it is also available on apple and android and maybe slightly better optimized for those (I haven't played that version so I don't know). Still very fun on Steam though.

I'm fairly sure multiplayer is dead, but the basic game is very fun. If you enjoy card and dice games and baseball, this is a quick little game that hits the spot just right. It's not deep, filled with crazy stats or mechanics; just a fun game of electronic dice rolls.

[h1]ドラマはいつも「9回の裏」に起こる[/h1] 本当に潔く「9回裏だけ」に特化した野球ゲーム。有名ボードゲームからの移植版。 投手、打者それぞれがコースを4種類の中から選択し、各々サイコロを振り、出目によって結果判定を処理して行く方式。走塁・守備等の成否もサイコロで決定していく。 それだけ聴くと、とても単純なゲームに思えるのだが、実は選手一人一人の能力がかなり多彩で、投手、打者含めて多種多様な出目修正を含む能力発揮を考慮せねばならないので、かなり奥が深い。 試合前に、そうした選手の個性をあらかじめ熟考して先発オーダーを組むところから、勝負は始まるのだ。 一人用キャンペーンモードが用意されているが、そこでもCPUの強さを様々に設定出来るし、安い値段の割には、かなり長く楽しめる工夫もされていると思う。

I weirdly had a lot of fun playing that game. I don't think it's great, and it's definitely not for everyone, but as someone who likes both baseball and dice games, I found Bottom of the 9th to be a good adaptation of that classic sport into a dice game. It's simple, and it's way too luck-based to be anywhere close to baseball, but it does include every phase from baseball and makes it into a silly board game. This digital port is excellent: I don't think it adds much to the original game, but the animations are cool and it does a good job of handling the board games components (the tokens and the dice). The game has overall a fun retro field in its aesthetics. I like it. The tutorial does feel a bit long, and it should have been made so that you get the expected results faster than usual (which is maybe the case, but if so I didn't notice a difference) in order to get through it quickly. Otherwise, it's pretty clear and straightforward.
