This game felt like it was going somewhere with the constant communication about updates and roadmaps. However, they have stopped putting out any information about where they are in the process of updating an early access game and have left most of their player base in the dark. No one seems to know what is happening with updates or when they are coming. When you read the replies that they give to people, it feels as if the studio has been bought out or replaced by an automated system that gives the same replies to all bad reviews. About changes that will be coming, but it all feels to clean and to "PR" friendly. At this point I would save your 12 dollars and spend it on a game that feels more polished and less grindy, and something that feels like it still has a dev team that cares.
I hate giving a “Not Recommended” review, especially since I genuinely enjoyed the game at the start. But I can’t shake the feeling that I got tricked a little. This looked like a monster‑creation game where you’d also use those monsters to battle. But the battle system is completely optional — and honestly, it might as well not exist. The battles are worthless, far too easy, and the rewards are terrible. You get 100 in‑game dollars for a win and a few tickets that might give you another 100 dollars… or just trash. Meanwhile, it costs around 100 in‑game dollars to create a single monster, and you need at least three to even participate in battles. The real gameplay loop is basically just making monsters to sell them. But not all monsters are eligible for selling, and the sell list changes every in‑game day. That’s the only reliable way to make money, which you then need to create more monsters… only to sell them again and repeat the exact same process. At first that’s fine — I usually enjoy that kind of loop — but it gets boring extremely fast. You’re not making monsters to use them in battle. I mean, you can, but it’s a complete waste of time since you gain nothing from it unless it’s part of the daily challenges. Then there’s the building aspect. The autistic side of me hates that movable items don’t snap into place and are impossible to align perfectly. And if you pick up an item that has stuff inside it, you can’t throw it — you have to walk it over and place it manually, which gets old very quickly. In short, the game has you doing the exact same thing over and over. After about an hour, you’ve seen everything: inject eggs, incubate them, hatch them, merge three of the same together, repeat until you get one that’s on the sell list, sell it, and start the whole cycle again. And if you think, “Well, at least I can use my strong monsters in battle,” that’s just a change of scenery. You’re basically a spectator for 1–2 minutes watching a simple, boring fight you have no influence over, which you’ll most likely win easily. And for that you get 100 dollars… while selling that same monster could earn you thousands, only for you to remake it later anyway. I hope this helps you decide before buying it. I enjoyed the first hour, but after that it felt like the developers were inspired by the movie Groundhog Day.
Lots of potential, but it needs more content. The biggest strength of this game is that it fills a huge gap in the market. There are very few games built around mixing creatures, and even fewer that do it well. Right now, the gameplay loop is mostly just mixing pets and sending them into battle. The battles themselves are repetitive and not particularly engaging. The evolution variety also feels limited. Tier 2 and especially Tier 3 pets don't differ enough, tier 3 always just ends up being a dog with the colour scheme of the first pet A solid foundation, but it needs more depth and variety to stay interesting long-term.
I think Monster Lab Simulator is worth picking up on sale, but in its current state, it feels pretty barebones. The core gameplay has some fun ideas, but there isn’t a lot of depth yet. Money quickly becomes something you have more of than you know what to do with, and waiting is a major part of the gameplay loop. You can buy things, but after a certain point, it stops feeling useful. There’s also a lack of variety in the creatures and not many ways to interact with them beyond picking them up and throwing them around. The Helper Robot doesn’t add much right now either; honestly, it got in my way more often than it helped. At the moment, you can probably speedrun the entire creature-pedia in about an hour. After that, most of the remaining gameplay comes down to micro-quests or selling creatures for money that doesn’t have much purpose yet. I still recommend it because there is some fun to be had here, but I’d go in expecting around two hours of real progression and enjoyment in its current state.
it is a very fun game. I love streaming it but right now i hit a wall on what to do. I would love to see this game grow and i will come back to it for sure. I even have friends who are wishing for a co-op mode. Overall you probably have a good 10 or so hours in it before you hit a wall. That just me though. YOu should get it and try for yourself.
