Momodora III delivers a highly polished side-scrolling experience, featuring fantastic visual polish highlighted by high-quality character animations. This presentation is wonderfully enhanced by legacy music, keeping familiar tracks from previous entries in the series to maintain a comforting sense of continuity. The adventure is incredibly accessible thanks to multiple difficulty options and robust controller support that functions beautifully after a bit of minor configuration. The gameplay loop feels rewarding due to powerful movement upgrades like the Speed Ring, which drastically improves both your standard walking speed and jump distance. You can also utilize unique helper mechanics like the Summon Stone, which calls forth a helpful ghost that serves as a cool, if slightly overpowered, combat companion. The game wraps up in a short, manageable length, and it includes charming interaction details like the main character physically jumping backward whenever you finish a conversation with a non-player character. However, the action platformer faces a few notable hurdles stemming from its engine roots and sudden shift in design philosophy. The experience introduces significant genre confusion, as it is surprising and slightly disappointing that the game abandons the Metroidvania structure of the previous entry for a more linear path. This issue is compounded by severe map limitations, leaving you completely unable to view an in-game map to track your surroundings. The user interface introduces friction through clunky inventory navigation, creating an annoying control conflict where reading item descriptions requires holding one button down while simultaneously pressing another. Saving your progress can also become tedious due to repetitive save point dialogue, as the phrase explaining that you offer a prayer to the Gods pops up every single time and needlessly slows down the saving and warping process. The combat mechanics suffer from excessive knockback whenever you take damage, which frequently disrupts the flow of battle. This frustration peaks during boss fights due to sudden contact damage, where merely touching an enemy's sprite depletes your health pool. Finally, the game introduces cheap instant-kill mechanics through stupid bomb enemies that feature highly inconsistent death physics, while basic input registration can occasionally fail to recognize jump or attack commands because of the game's keyboard-based technical roots. Overall Momodora III is a visually gorgeous, charming, and highly manageable action platformer that excels through its smooth animation, great movement upgrades, helpful summon mechanics, and nostalgic soundtrack. While the brief journey is frequently hampered by its unexpected shift away from the Metroidvania genre, finicky input registration, annoying text prompts, and punishing contact damage, the solid core platforming and adjustable difficulty levels ensure it remains a thoroughly enjoyable entry for fans of the series.
Short and sweet, it's my favorite in the momodora series :)
cute!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cute little game, it's of it's time but well worth 60-90 minutes to play through for the price.
