I have a genuine question here: is this the same developer team that has presented us Portal of Evil: Stolen Runes? Because both games carry the banner of 8Floor, and if so, this game is an unacceptable decline in quality compared to their previous title, coming as a mediocre and bug-ridden disappointment. Here, we take the role of Kathleen Wilson, a young lawyer whose boyfriend; Danny has the obscure hobby of collecting and researching occult artifacts. One evening, Kathleen receives a phone call from Danny, explaining that he's been accused of murder by the police! As you rush to his side to prepare a defense, Danny tells you that he is being set up by an unknown perpetrator who also stole a set of ancient Indian totems from him. At this point, you prefer to go back to Danny's hotel room to investigate the phenomenon and flush out the perpetrator in hopes of helping Danny, rather than staying by his side to actually prepare a defense like a sensible lawyer. So, this murder investigation turns into a paranormal yet obscurely constructed, absurd little journey as soon as you step into Danny's room. Soon, you'll be dealing with Indian curses, generic eerie little girls, mad researchers, agoraphobic pilots and murdered cabaret dancers. First mistake: the story construction is completely malformed. Sure, I've seen worse in HOG genre, but the story is so full of holes, it fails to present a consistent story altogether. One moment, you are in the hotel room, in another the protagonist mentions travelling in time, and in the next chapter you are helping a pilot. If you go back and read your journal carefully, you manage to come into the conclusion that you are somehow going through time depending on the former actions of your perpetrator. But while the story unfolds, you are rarely given the reason WTF you would be doing there. Plot resolutions are sloppy, characters are nearly cardboard and the ending is a new level of ridiculous. The previous game from the developers was surely no award winner, but its display qualities were exceedingly good. Here, it feels like that they didn't even try. Artwork is generic, character designs are forgettable and there is no voice acting at all. There is not even a single scene that you'd particularly enjoy. The narrative both in dialogues and in the journal are so dry, that it bores you. As someone who'd especially enjoy fictional settings and character designs, this was the first time that I genuinely got bored of a HOG. Gameplay is on the low side within the genre too. HOG scenes are amateurishly matched stock pictures, with many item labelling and even logic mistakes. In one scene, there are 6-7 lightbulbs within the picture, yet for some reason the game expects you to click on a particular one without giving any indications. Most puzzles are dreadfully simple, yet some fails to give you decent explanations so you keep clicking around until something happens. The backtracking is also horrendous. Oh, and the achievements in this game are bugged, be warned. Even though you wouldn't click on the hint button it recharges every time you start the game, and if you are to accidentally leave a HOG or puzzle scene to look around, the game registers you leaving as if you've used a hint! If you want all your achievements you gotta wait for the button to charge completely before clicking on anything. It is purely ridiculous. I've been lucky enough to check discussion forums before starting my playthrough but many others who wouldn't would be annoyed. This issue is yet to be resolved. Got the game in a bundle and feel like giving it a try? My condolences. You'll be either bored or annoyed with this one. There are truckloads of other great HOGs to check out here on Steam. Make yourself a favor, pass this one. I thought I'd give this game a thumb up, but I'm sad to say this is going to be a negative review. Before I started the game, I've read the other people reviews (Since the rating is mostly negative) and I was wondering what made them rate it like that. Turned out the game is glitchy, and not any kind of glitch, but those which require you to restart the game all over. Luckily I didn't encounter any because I followed this amazing guide. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1273871159 The story is about a lawyer named Kathleen who's boyfriend was accused of murder. She decided to investigate the reason behind this accusation. Then you'll realize he was searching for ancient Indian totems which started all of this problems. The story is strange (and it ended badly), it is a combination of multiple stories from people you encounter in the 'past' because you'll be able to open a portal and travel back in time. While I like the concept of time traveling, this game didn't execute it well. The visuals are pretty in this game, some of the locations looked really good. and I actually enjoyed the soundtrack although it is looping. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1300196184 Journal and map were not bad, but the map doesn't have indications or information other than the exclamation which will not disappear unless you finish everything in that specific room. Although the name called chronicles of the witches and warlocks, this is the only time a 'Witch' was mentioned. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1300220703 Pros: +Journal was fine. +Fast travel map. +Music was not bad. +Graphics are good and the areas done nicely. +Steam achievements. Cons: -No Voiceovers. -Not good story (Ended badly) -Buggy games, there is a total of 5 bugs in the game including the puzzles and description, along with the huge bug which will stop you from advancing the game. There is a solution in the 'Guide section' of the steam game page. -No replay value. If you have the gameplay it by following the glitches guide so wouldn't need to restart playing it again. If you don't own the game, don't purchase it for until the developers fix those bugs. I will keep it short.. There are neither witches nor warlocks in this game. Instead, you get time travelling, Indian rituals/curses and a little ghost girl. It looks pretty. That's it. The characters are lame, the story is meh and the ending is even worse. Combined with easy puzzles and a repetetive soundtrack (which doesn't even loop correctly), it's overall a boring game. (Also, I almost fell asleep while playing..) Therefore, I'd rather recommend other hidden object games than this one.
This screenshot really sums up the game: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Yoodiv/screenshot/273968805450010521 It's not finished, like there is a serious lack of quality-control. The first ~half of the game is actually pretty good, but then it starts to fall apart very quickly. I was playing on expert mode for achievements, which I earned, but they were not awarded. If you get it free, might be worth a play, but don't pay for it, not unless it has a major update/fix.
Tons of bugs and bad translations. From simple things like calling a pretzel, a croissant. Bad translations happen in most every HOG. As well as saying you need to press 4 buttons on a dial in one game. When in reality you need to press 3 similar buttons. Achievements not triggering until you close the game and re-open it or create a new file. You get the picture... Until they fix those things, I would avoid this game. For as long as it's been out, there's really no excuse.
Stay far FAR away from this horrible game. There are so many bugs in this game that I can't even finish it. It has reset my progress twice so far, and now I am stuck at the end of the game. Hint button has stopped working and there is nothing I can do in the game. There is a mini game I'm supposed to play but it won't let me. Do NOT buy this game.
Reading the reviews on this, I was hesistant to play it, but it was a good price so I went for it! I enjoyed the game, it actually makes you think. A lot of hidden object adventure games let you vaguely put an object near an area and your done. This one makes you actually work for it. The detail put into the game is impressive, but there are little things that could be better. Like in one of the hidden object scenes they call a peacock feather an ostrich feather. (Yes, I am that person :)) I am not sure why the title is Chronicle of Witches and Warlocks as there does not seem to be any witches or warlocks. That being said, it is just a title. I had fun playing it. It was not the best I have ever played, but I think the reviews are a bit harsh.
It's... not good. Too many mislabeled hidden objects (e.g., a "leaflet" that's actually a maple leaf, a "watch" that's actually a wall clock, an "ostrich feather" that's actually a peacock feather), too many that match multiple objects in the scene (e.g., these half-dozen things are all "light bulb"s, but apparently this is the specific one you want me to click on). Minigame with incorrect instructions (see the discussions - "select four buttons," where you actually have to select three). At least one game-breaking bug near the end, if you do things in the wrong order (see discussions again).
