First of all, I want to say thanks to the dev for porting this to PC and making it available with an English translation. Had a lot of fun with the game <3 The sense of style and speed in this game is incredible, like a modern day Umihara Kawase with the speedrun tech built in. Will be going back to this at some stage to beat my times and the bonus levels unlocked after the ending. Some people are going to be irked by how short it is (Just over an hour to get through all of the story levels) but I feel like it doesn't give a chance for things to get stale. Also, now I want a Mochi girl plushie you can velcro to stuff and pretend she's swinging around!
spiderman if it was good
To the developer: please continue making quality platformers, this is a wonderful show case of your skill with physics based play and unique platformer mechanics! My first glimpse of this was on youtube and the first thing that popped in my head was Umihara Kawase, namely Sayonara Umihara Kawase Chirari, which speaks to the caliber of its physics based mechanics and platforming. In terms of presentation it shares UK's flavor of aesthetics, UK Fresh, that is to say simple but effective, nothing overly fancy but more homey feeling and relaxed. As far as mechanics are involved, モチ上ガール is simple yet effective once again in its core grappling mechanic using its mochi whip with effective and natural momentum based movement, all of which is primarily carried out with a single button. Where モチ上ガール truly shows its variety of mechanics is in how it will incorporate its bevy of situational environmental attractions ranging from pipes, thumb pins, rolling blocks, and water bubbles among others. My personal favorite among these are the water bubbles which when in a sequence provide an exhilarating free flowing experience, while when chained effectively create opportunities for momentum based launching sequences allowing you to gain significant speed and distance/height if done correctly. Where I feel モチ上ガール supersedes UK is in its frequent boss encounter levels. Understanding the former was focused on a cohesive style of "enemy" in its marine life based theme, モチ上ガール nonetheless does a great job of letting the player fully utilize its kit of movement mechanics to create a quasi combing combat system, which does well to offer variety along the way. If I have to have some negative comment, I would only say I wished that there was a slightly more robust ground acceleration/momentum mechanic offered as, in most cases when you touch the ground directly you effectively lose any momentum. Otherwise jumping up and whipping to the ground at angle, most obviously achievable on sloped flooring (stairs) will give you momentary acceleration that depending on your skill can be used effectively to further chain into level specific environmental attractions. Again while it may seem モチ上ガール is being compared secondarily to Umihara Kawase, it is more to show the level of enjoyment モチ上ガール is capable of and the respect it deserves. While I can understand why some may feel the price is a little above what they were hoping for or expecting, I don't mind occasionally paying and supporting the developer when they are able to create an effective and enjoyable experience, especially since in my eyes platformers have been largely ignored by the greater gaming industry, excluding Nintendo's occasional releases. So just like games in the vein Journey, I'm not going to place an expectation on what games should be priced when they connect with me; obviously there is a line when you have to say something is unreasonable and too much, but this isn't it, at least for me.
I actually really enjoyed this game, its very fun and easy to play. My only problem is that sometimes the achievements wont work for me. I really love the music design in this game, it sounds like something you would hear in a Touhou game. very nice. Even though the game is short, it was really fun and I had a great time. The swinging and speedrun like gameplay seems like something out of A Hat In Time, which I really enjoyed.
A fun short game that can be easily beaten in about an hour. Has a lot of replay value if you enjoy speedrunning or wish to go for the timed steam achievements.
Short but fun game with tons of replay value if you're into speedrunning!
Easy to learn, well design levels and a great soundtrack. It's gets really fun once you learn how to pick up crazy amounts of momentum and start shaving down times.
Cute platformer. Reminds me of Umihara Kawase, and that's high praise from where I'm from.
