About

A world consumed by mist and affliction.
Humanity is gone, and hope for its return grows fainter by the day.
Fight, build, and push deeper into the ruins of a world that refuses to die quietly.
Mistaken is a dark fantasy survival RPG centered around satisfying progression, powerful build creation, and expanding a refuge in a world that has already fallen.
Fight your way through dangerous realms, gather rare resources, defeat horrific creatures, and descend deeper into the mist in search of stronger gear, new crafting options, and devastating character builds.
Despite its bleak world, Mistaken blends moody dark fantasy with charm, rewarding exploration, and addictive progression systems designed to constantly give the player new goals to chase.

The gameplay loop in Mistaken is simple, satisfying, and difficult to put down:
Explore → Gather → Fight → Upgrade → Expand → Descend Further
Each journey into the mist offers stronger enemies, rarer materials, hidden structures, dangerous bosses, and new opportunities to push your build even further.
The deeper you go, the stranger and deadlier the world becomes.
Progression in Mistaken is all about experimentation and growth.
Weapons, armor, and equipment roll with randomized attributes and affixes, allowing even ordinary gear to become something powerful in the right build. Shape your character around different combat styles, strategies, and synergies as you steadily become stronger with each expedition.
Choose an Origin that defines the strengths and weaknesses of your character.
Lean fully into devastating magic, specialize in ranged combat, become a brutal frontline fighter, or choose the path of a nomad, free to experiment and adapt without a predefined direction.
Each Origin opens the door to different builds, strategies, and progression paths, with many more planned throughout Early Access.

Cartifacts are mysterious magical cards that can be equipped to fundamentally change how your build functions.
Each Cartifact grants unique combat effects that can synergize with one another in powerful ways, opening the door for countless strategies and combinations.
Why not equip one Cartifact that causes melee attacks to poison enemies, then combine it with another that increases critical strike chance against poisoned targets?
The deeper you progress, the more possibilities become available.

Your base is more than just decoration. It is a core part of progression.
Gather resources to build shelters, crafting stations, farms, storage, defenses, and homes for wandering survivors. As your settlement grows, new crafting options, beneficial NPCs, sustainable food production, and progression opportunities become available.
Start with a small refuge and slowly transform it into a thriving stronghold standing against the mist.

This game BETTER be good or I'm ganna be PISSED......or I'm ganna be MISTAKEN!!
Love the game! Such great vibes, exploration and crafting.
Don't be MISTAKEN (pun intended), this game can be challenging yet rewarding. Took a bit of time figuring out how to build a base, craft/sell stuff, progress time, and how to beat certain enemies but now I'm breezing through - with the exception of boss fights (you'll need to prepare and upgrade your gears for it and probably do multiple attempts). Cartifacts are also fun, allowing you to test different strategies in fighting! P.S. Found out about the game from @splattercatgaming
I played the demo vigorously and loved the concept of venturing into a series of procedurally generated areas to fight and gather resources as you build a base along with increasingly powerful tiers of gear in order to become strong enough to kill the boss at the end of the biome. Add special cards and starting quirks that provide various passive buffs into the mix and you have lots of room to create unique builds to help you accomplish making your way through this erie, dark world.
this game is pretty great so far! if you've played games like terraria and valheim, the concept is similar in that you build items to progress, and fight bosses to progress further, rinse and repeat. what sets Mistaken apart from others like it is that the atmosphere is somehow calm and absolutely chilling at the same time. there's a serenity to this game, but it never truly feels safe, like something could be sneaking out from the corners of your vision, my only complaints are the classic early access complaints that will most likely be fixed as the game continues development. i.e. some quality of life is just missing, like inventory sorting and some basic tutorials, (tho i kind of like having to figure out everything myself) enemies usually get stunlocked with melee weapons meaning the only threats are the fast ones or ranged ones, and a lack of verticality (tho i'm only in the third area, so maybe that changes) overall, give it a shot! big ups to the dev!
I am hesitant to do early access reviews, since things can (or don't) change for better or worse, but seeing as this only has double digits number of reviews, I want to help boost it ever so slightly. Due to that, I am not giving a detailed or lengthy review like I normally would. So take it with a grain of salt. It has a demo, so you can try before you buy. Though the demo is outdated and unlikely to get any more updates, it showcases the core gameplay mechanics and loop. Definitely worth keeping an eye on though, especially since the dev is decently active on the steam forums and takes feedback well. I enjoy the game, it somewhat scratches a similar itch like Terraria did for me with its style of gear progression. Although its world is just flat, no verticality from the first three zones I've explored, which makes exploration rather boring. It is more of a room-to-room roguelite in terms of world design, combined with a sandbox style block building system for your own base/sanctuary. You can also place down decorations that spawn NPCs with functions at your sanctuary. Although my favorite aspect of the game is the overall atmosphere. It is difficult to describe, almost relaxing and eerie (In an eldritch/lovecraft sense) at the same time? I greatly look forward to seeing how this game evolves over time.
Super-fun little game loop with a lot of potential for expansion. One thing which I am especially fond of is the atmosphere. Between the limited, but extremely well-crafted and executed music and ambient weather effects, it does a great job of setting the scene. The developer's really put in the work on this front. The lighting effects, enemy designs, differences between levels all contribute to producing something that's surprisingly immersive for what it is.
