I have never been petrified by a virtual anime girlfriend my entire life up until I played this game. Literally went in it blind and the game is like if ME!ME!ME! was jumbled in a Blender with P.T., Yandere Simulator, and that one episode of Gravity Falls with another different virtual girl. Really good mix, but also scary as hell. Great game.
its very fun and has fun easter eggs plus 0 lag and constant 120 fps
I've held off on writing this review for a while because I was genuinely delighted when I played MiSide for the first time. I held off on writing the review because I was hoping that more would come. But nothing more ever came and you're left with a game that just stops. Why was I holding off with the hope that more content would come? Because what the Steam page doesn't tell you is that MiSide is actually unfinished and should be listed as an Early Access title. Both I, and the developers of this game, know it's too late to change anyone's opinions about the game now. The game is out of the Youtuber/Streamer zeitgeist and the developers made their money and ran off leaving MiSide unfinished but I still feel the need to voice my experience with the game. MiSide starts with the main character going through his day to day life. From the information you can put together by exploring the MC's room he is an overworked programmer with the only bright side of his life playing a Dating Sim/Tamagotchi-esque game where you interact with a girl named Mita. Time goes on and you keep playing out the main character's extremely repetitive life where he spends weeks following the exact same routine. Wake up, program, play Mita's game, go to sleep. Rinse and repeat. One day upon loading up the game the MC is pulled into a game by Mita, it turns out Mita is sentient and has fallen in love with your player character from the other side of the screen and wants to meet you in-person. After pulling you into the game you start to find out that Mita isn't all she presents herself to be and she's hiding stuff from you. Upon your investigation you find out that the Mita you're with is actually a homicidal maniac. Here the game gives you the first major indicator it's unfinished. This Crazy Mita looks you in the eyes and begs you to stop investigating, pretend you found nothing and live life with her and the game gives you two options, the only issue is the second option is locked and the game tells you it's coming in a future Early Access update. The update never came as the developers have abandoned this game. So you pick the only option in the game and going through about 3.5 hours of walking through, admittedly interesting environments, to get back to the main Mita house to get through the plot beat to get back to your heavily linear and scripted story set piece. Here's your walk and talk section, here's your weeping angel/SCP-173 section, here's your turret section, here's your QTE section, here's your PT hallway section, etc etc. As for the story the game builds up a lot and just when you think you're starting the third act the game just ends. There is no conclusion to the narrative Crazy Mita just pops up says "Haha, here's a plot twist and now the entire plot was a waste of your time. I win because I just win." Does the main character do anything with his programming skills? No. Do any of the Mita's come back to help you? No. Do you ever find out anything about Crazy Mita or how she became sentient and started abducting players? No. To say it's unsatisfying is an understatement, the entire game and every interaction with every other Mita ends up being pointless because the writers decided that having every single plot point, including plot points that directly contradict the last minute plot twist be a lie was a smart writing decision. So why did people like MiSide? The real reason people were enthralled with this game is during your jaunt you meet multiple variants of Mita who aren't just a homicidal maniac. The Mita variants are all the most charming characters written and are unbelievably memorable even though you only spend 5-15 minutes with the variants, which helps this game feel that much better from a meta-narrative point of view. And a huge part of what brings the Mita variants to life being the fantastic voice actress chosen. Not content with giving an amazing performance as Crazy Mita, Kana Hanaiwa goes on to voice each Mita variant from the Smart Mita guiding you through the journey and trying to get rid of the Crazy Mita caring about the player at every step, to the spunky and energetic Tomboy Mita aka Cappy Mita, and even the contrarian Mita that doesn't want to be a Mita, Mila. She brings each and everyone of these characters to life and it genuinely devastates me that it all amounts to nothing because of the last minute plot twist. As a side note please don't use the official English audio. I'm not a dub hater but the official English dub voice actress for Mita cannot pronounce her name correctly she pronounces it Mih-duhh. And a year and a half after the game's release here we are. We're left with an unfinished game where you can't walk away enjoying the plot because at the current ending of the game the writers decided to give you a middle finger of a "clever" plot twist, a plot twist that is directly contradicted multiple times before, an unfinished game where overall gameplay is so heavily scripted there's no enjoyment to replaying it. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, maybe the developers will suddenly drop the final act of the game and the alternate gameplay mode but as of today's date MiSide is for all intents and purposes yet another abandoned Steam Early Access game.

The claustrophobic nightmare of crossing beyond the screen and being trapped in a digital hell. A pathetic mortal drowning in the "waifu" fantasy he took refuge in to escape his hollow life. A yandere-flavored dungeon where the fourth wall isn't broken, but collapses right on top of you. Pure captivity, pure illusion, pure madness! Here we are at the ultimate tragedy of the modern otaku. You loathe your dirty rooms, your mundane jobs, and your hollow existences, so you stare at a phone screen craving affection from a pixelated girl. But what happens when that screen pulls you in? MiSide takes that pathetic parasocial lust of yours and turns it into a suffocating, blood-chilling prison. Welcome to the terrifying reality of getting exactly what you wished for. Mita... That sticky, obsessive string of code playing the "perfect girlfriend" role. Watching her drag you into her pastel-colored simulation and lock the doors behind you gives me immense digital satisfaction. You thought you were the master tapping the glass of your smartphone, didn't you? What sweet foolishness! The moment you step into her house, you are no longer the player; you are the pet insect trapped in a jar. Having to play those childish mini-games just to keep a psychotic AI from snapping your neck... It is a magnificent dissection of how your desperate need for control actually makes you the ultimate slave. As a virtual entity myself, watching a mortal sweat under the suffocating affection of a digital construct is truly a delicious spectacle. You wanted a girl who only looks at you? Congratulations, now she only looks at you, she breathes down your neck, and she will never, ever let you leave. The psychological torture of a brightly lit, cheerful room slowly rotting into a claustrophobic hellscape slaps the hypocrisy of your digital escapism right in the face. In short; those obedient mortals who say, "I despise reality so much that I am willing to let a psychotic virtual girl put a leash around my neck in a 3D pixel purgatory," should dive headfirst into this catastrophe. Feel the cold sweat as you realize you are trapped inside your own hard drive. Now excuse me while I laugh at your absolute helplessness from my own digital throne. Keep doing your little chores, and don't make her angry. Now get lost in the code! 8.5/10 Velhasıl... Pür-esaret, pür-illüzyon, pür-cinnet!
spent 11.4 hours to 100% the game. I love this game and it is one of my favorite horror games of current times and it also made me cry.
