Solid puzzle game, with an interesting load of mechanics that makes you think quite a bit. Most if not all of the mechanics and themes are things I've never actually seen in a puzzle game before, so it was quite interesting to figure out and solve.
First off, my playtime is just a little bit inaccurate, since my savegame from the demo carried over to the full game. Depending on how good you are at puzzles, you can probably expect to get between 3-5 hours of playtime here. Secondly, I'm not what you would generally consider to be the target audience for puzzle games, since I've only ever played a handful, but I had a great time with this. Nothing here is exceptionally difficult and the game doesn't wear out its welcome. All-in-all, it's a little treat that you could probably enjoy over an evening. There's a bunch of levels that provide some pretty unique and novel experiences. I really appreciate the inclusion of the "Rewind" feature, which saved me from having to do a bunch of tedious restarts and retries. Generally, the game seems to give off a very avant-garde and vaguely surreal feel. A lot of the levels make you approach them in unorthodox ways, and give a real sense of satisfaction when you finish them. By the time I was finished, I really found myself craving that "Aha!" moment that Mirrormind gave me so many times. A new itch to scratch. Even if you're not a "puzzle gamer" you probably stand to have a pleasant little time with this. Maybe if you're like me, this will spur you into seeking out more puzzle games that bring you that same kind of satisfaction. Thank you, Mirrormind, for turning me on to a genre that I'd never really given much thought to in the past. I can't wait to see more!
MirrorMind This is primarily a puzzle game, so the game play and challenges are the most important part to get right. And Mirrormind does not disappoint. Puzzles are well thought out and engaging, and can be genuinely challenging. especially when having to think across different gravitational directions. The different world mechanics also keep things varied and fresh without getting too repetitive or stale. Hub worlds for each world and puzzle type are also fun with world 3 a particular favourite due to its looping nature. Controls are very simple, intuitive and easy to use. Allowing the game to be picked up and played very quickly. Ultimately, to anyone who is a fan of puzzle games, I would recommend picking this one up
Easy to understand without hand holding. A grim and dream like style with consistent action.
A deceptively simple first-person puzzle game with a cool low-fi aesthetic. The main mechanic is based on swapping perspective/control between multiple block-shaped player characters, but the game quickly adds a bunch of interesting twists - gravity that changes based on which block you're controlling, player characters that can't move, platforming where you can switch perspective to the moving platforms you're trying to jump on, etc. There's a good amount of variety between levels and the rewind mechanic gives you the freedom to play around with solutions without accidentally getting stuck. My only criticisms are that the music on some levels can get a little repetitive, and that the story segments in the hub worlds were confusing and didn't seem to have much to do with the rest of the game. I haven't finished the game yet but I like what I've seen of Mirrormind so far, and would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Portal or The Talos Principle.
