I always say all games are worth playing but this one just seems way to slow and rather blah. I have no idea what to do or where to go, the graphics are low end and could use some blending between regions. Not to mention some pointers to help guide you along within the game of Minable & Create! As for mining everything, yes you can but its so slow and painful, as for creating things I have yet to figure out how! While all that is said and done, I get very frustrated by games that charge 20$ plus for early access and offer next to nothing via content and hope to make it big. Games like these should try thinking small, providing value and building a clientele that rave about the product rather then giving free keys out and hoping to get word of mouth out for sales. So the final question would be, Is Minable & Create recommended? Blockhead NOT APPROVED!
Minable & Create isn't the next RPGmaker-style Minecraft nor will it be the next Terraria but for a basic, somewhat-idyllic sandbox game, it does its job of entertaining its players well enough. Hold onto your wallets and keep an eye on this if you're interested.
Similar to those big-name games listed above, the game will have you explore the map, harvesting resources to turn into materials, and then into items that you can use. Crafting is pretty "open" here, meaning that you can immediately harvest and craft the highest-tier tool or item in-game right from the start - and you should, just to save time. There's really no point in crafting an iron axe when you could easily have crafted a gold one to use. But this "openness" brought some issues of its own, namely the issue of progression. I mean, yes you can earn exp by crafting - not by harvesting stuff though for some reason - and killing hostile creatures but leveling up doesn't seem to give you anything except more health and... is that mana?... or unlock anything new. Mayyybeee I got some more stats by leveling up and I didn't notice but what's the point of more stats when I can just bulldoze my way through any enemy with my gold sword, right? Enemies aren't particularly aggressive in this game too and it's easy to outrun them if you really want to. ------------------
Watch me play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J43PY4j5eA (P/S: If you can't watch it yet, it's likely still uploading. Check back in a bit and it'll be there :) ) ------------------ I think that the devs could improve on the raw materials-to-building-materials ratio. At the moment, a tree stump and a tree will each produce a single stack of wood. Would be nice, and less grindy, if that's changed. I should also point out that initially, I thought I had to wait around for crafting to complete, which would be rather boring, but I found out later that this isn't exactly the case. You see, you can have the crafting tombstone produce a different item for each crafting tab at the same time. If you happen to have any crafting structures like the cooking pot and the furnace, you can have additional crafting going on concurrently as well. The idea is to have them craft certain stuff for you while you go do something else. However, these structures have "durability" here which limits how many items they can craft before crumbling into dust. Once their "lifespan" is done, they will spew the raw materials you've put in and whatever they have produced onto the ground... items that I can only hope won't disappear if you're out exploring and not anywhere nearby to pick the stuff up. The game claims to be easy-to-understand and I'd say it hits the nail on the head! In addition to all the crafting and harvesting, the base-building aspect is simple enough to grasp as well... unless you're like me and only realized that I should be right-clicking to place items like the instructions said at the very beginning #facepalm. There's not much freedom for base-building too since you are beholden to the giant ancient tombstone to craft anything. It's not exactly a huge issue but it's something that I think is worth noting here. Quick tip by the way! The red arrow on the compass shows you the general direction of the tombstone, in case you've ventured out too far and completely forgot where the stone is. Oddly enough, the game allows you to recruit NPCs by fulfilling whatever that they ask of you. There are several types to collect but at the moment at least, they don't seem to serve any purpose. They aren't like the monkeys in The Survivalists where you can train them to do some of the more mundane stuff for you, for example. I've also noticed that the NPCs doesn't follow you around despite being able to "hold" some inventory for you, so they can't become my portable stuff-lugger either. Looking forward to see how the devs further develop these NPCs. Although I still have no idea how to hunt animals - or I can perhaps domesticate them? - in this game, it has several different types of enemies that will be able to hurt you. They range from the weaker snakes and rats to the more hard-hitting lizardmen and golems. Every enemy act in a very "basic" way with some being pacifists, not retaliating even as you hack away at them. I think the devs will need to improve on the enemies here, to differentiate each enemy based on not only health bar and their 2D models but also the way they attack. The game should be able to provide endless entertainment as well due to the many different "world seeds" you can play in, but note that you can only save 3 of them. There an "other world" option in the menu which IMHO indicates that there might be multiplayer mode later down the road.
Summary of Feedback
- Differentiate enemies based on their attack patterns - Add more functionality to recruited NPCs - Add more purpose to leveling up and hence, add some form of progression - maybe a talent tree? - Further build on the story introduction provided and add some form of RPG campaign to the game. (The devs said you get to "save the world", but how?)
Overall
All in all, for an early access, Minable & Create has a pretty good gameplay foundation to build off of, but the game definitely need a whole lot more polishing and content - like actually have stuff in the game that follows through on the story introduction you've given us at the very beginning, such as RPG-like quests and bosses to fight. However, the game isn't really worth the price I'd say since its pointless to continue playing once you've built your ideal base in the game... unless you're looking to support the development of the game and the devs, of course. Might be good to keep an eye on this if you're interested and check back in after a few more updates and see how the development of the game goes. I have been really enjoying the game. Cheers!
Played this back in August for a few hours and here's my take. This is built in RPG Maker so the graphics are based on that, which is standard for the engine. The developer went for a 16-bit feel and they accomplished that. At the time, there was little direction on what to do and how to do anything so I spent time just wandering around; this can frustrate some players. Eventually after accessing the monument a few times I figured it out. Still, the whole crafting probably needs an overhaul to make it more user-friendly. The ability to reshape the world is a nice feature since you can literally rip up the ground and put down whatever you want, including making simple artwork. The game does get regular updates, but there is no roadmap so it is hard to know where the developer is going with the game. Cost of the game is on the edge of people ignoring it, considering how hard it is to figure out the beginning of the game and the basics. But at $19.99 USD you will get all the updates so you can play it again later on and see how it goes; but I have a feeling there will be people that will end up refunding it. Recommending it is hard, because even though this is an easy game to play with limited controls there are far more robust base-building games & sandbox games that start you off on better footing. But if you are a fan of retro-style it might tip it in your favor. Still, I'll give it a "yes" but only because it is being worked on continually and improved. (Since August I have noticed some improvements so I give it at the time I am writing this a 65% yes.) Check out my Youtube VOD of my playthrough from that point and see if you like what you see!
Warum? 1. Was genau ist mein Ziel? Also was nun? Keine Ahnung. Was das Spiel angeht: Vorerst Finger weg.
A rather interesting title, clearly inspired by games such as Minecraft and Terraria. I have watched this game get consistly updated, suggesting that it's a labor of love. The fact that the game is developed within RPG Maker is impressive in and of itself. They took the world creation tool of RPG Maker, condensed it down and gave it to the player. PROS Constantly being updated/improved Complete freedom Mostly easy to understand Achievements CONS Takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to all the pieces of material, NPCs, and enemies on screen in the beginning Somewhat aimless freedom At the start, the game is slow but as you upgrade your tools/weapons progress improves. The tutorial is helpful in learning the ropes and systems of the game. Before long, you too will be befriending NPCs and rebuilding the world! Overall I would honestly give the game a sideways thumb. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if you enjoy slower paced crafting games and want to support an indie developer/publisher, you might like Minable & Create.
I cannot get into the game itself. There is no changeable avatar, stays fixed. Then you may start a world but it directly shows the 90% loadingscreen and freezes there. You can cancel and get back to world screens but this does not help. I would like to get to play it. So I hope you have some advice. I had this question in the "discussions" tab since 3rd January. No reply yet. Maybe it helps to put it here. Right now I cannot recommend a game i cannot play.
