Mina the Hollower

Overall I did like it. The combat, art style and exploration are the real selling points of the game. It does have some odd difficulty spikes, with some enemy placement in the different areas being more annoying than actually difficult. I think it was a pretty big swing that tried to combine an old school Gameboy Zelda game with some modern game principles. I don't think it always hit, but it hit more times than not for me.

Incredible little game. The gameplay is manic and addictive, with the music keeping the flow going. The story at its core is somewhat simple, but has so many different little side aspects that all contribute nicely to the games themes, and raise it out of boring simplicity. The game felt a bit clunky for the first hour or two, but after that it quickly clicked for me, and I enjoyed the rest of it dearly. One aspect I really liked especially were the trinkets, as there are a crap ton of them, and despite this fact, almost all of them feel incredibly unique. This gets even better when you can combine the effects of multiple trinkets together to get some genuinely crazy results.

Easily the best retro-inspired game I've ever played. No more difficult than Hollow Knight, and certainly easier than HK after you've cleared the first two "dungeons" the game nudges you toward. Highly, highly recommend, and here's hoping Yacht Club releases a sequel or some DLC (hopefully both)!
