Yikes. I saw the new “updated AI system” and figured I’d give Millennium Whisper another try. The first time I played it, it was fine, just not quite what it promised. But somehow the “updated” AI is genuinely worse. Most of the character dialogue is nonsense sentences that don’t make sense, responses that contradict themselves, or the AI repeatedly acting like it’s the first time you’ve ever met. And when it’s not confused, it talks like a generic virtual assistant. I could get more personality out of Alexa. I’m honestly curious what model it’s running, because this is awful. The devs claim they trained the system themselves on their own creative work, which… might be the root of the problem. There’s just no way they’ve produced enough material to train something supposed to be capable of playing various characters. I hate that this is getting worse, because the idea has so much potential. It's just not working.
it's a cool concept, but it lost it's charm very quickly. the ai doesn't remember what i just told it. i had one of the characters say he was down to light a girl's house on fire for being mean to me one day and then criticize me that weekend when i brought it up while on a date. this guy also couldn't remember when i repeatedly asked him not to call me "dude" or "guy" (i wasn't even mad at it or offended or whatever. this is just something i would ask an actual person i hardly know not to call me, and i wanted to see if he would remember. he did not) the characters don't even remember my name. one girl asked for it, i told her "amber," and she called me amelia in the next line of dialog. maybe she's supposed to forget and say a similar name, i don't know. maybe that's in character for her, but it came across like the ai forgetting and guessing. another girl got mad at me when, after she said she liked football and golf, i said "oh, it looks like we have a common interest in sports," stating that "sports are beneath her." she did backtrack when i corrected her and said "yeah, i like sports..." but at that point, it was the last line of dialog in the date i got bored after like 25 minutes but decided to keep going to see if i'd have any fun at any point, but it just didn't happen. i have more fun talking to chatgpt than i did playing this game. i might try it again when it's finished, but for now, this is it, and i cannot recommend it
Unfortunately, it would be very wrong to recommend this game in its current state. The overall concept of the game is really really cool and very fun. I have to admit I was very sceptical since it does use AI and I wasn't exactly sure how it was used (like for generating images or stuff) but I'm glad that the game only uses AI for the character interaction and that all the art in the game is made by humans. Now I have multiple complaints with this game and some things that need to be improved drastically. First of all, the AI. Oh boy! Where do I even begin. It's probably the worst AI ever. The character constantly forget who you are, they don't remember anything, they are illiterate and can't understand basic English and so much more. It's actually really sad when your games main selling feature is that YOU write the script but you can't even do that. Let's say you want to create absolutely chaos and cause so much drama, well you can't because the AIs will forget the second your conversation is over. This absolutely saddenings me since, like I said, I love the concept of being to create my own story out of it. Secondly, the entire rumours and skills features. For people who haven't played or don't know what I'm referring too, in the game, there is a feature where every new moon, rumours will be spread about you effecting all current and new relationship. Now like with most things in this game, it is a really good idea but it is not working as intended. The rumours (at least in my playthrough) never spread. It kept saying that there were some but nobody talked about it or confronted me about the "rumours". As for the skills, it's really just you upgrading your personality by doing fitness or reading books and by doing that you should meet new people and become more liked. Well once again, the feature is really weirdly done and doesn't work. You will rarely meet all 13 character and they don't even acknowledge what you've been working on. It also is extremely punishing system. For exemple, if you decide to work on your looks, all your other stats will go down drastically, so there is really no way to keep it balanced. Third of all, the waiting time. Every single time a character talks, thinks of even updates it's memory, it takes forever. First, your game will freeze for two minutes, then it will take the AI another two minutes just to think and even longer to finally talk. This is bad since it makes the interaction very long and actually quite painful and annoying when it's literally the entire goal of the game to talk to them! Finally, the characters. Now I have nothing negative to say about the designs of the characters. I believe that's one thing the game really nailed is the art. But they have failed completely when it comes to the characters personality and interactions with the player. To start, they, for some reason, don't know the other characters in the game or forget they exist. You can be talking to one character about another character and they could have no idea what your saying. Another thing is that you will probably only meet 3-5 characters per playthrough, meaning that it can get extremely repetitive very quickly. Even if you're the absolute worst to them they still keep coming for you. Which leads me to my next point, where the character and players relationship aren't clearly indicated creating a lot of confusion. For exemple, in the same sentence, the characters can go from absolutely hating your guts to confessing their undying love for you. Add all of that with the fact they have Alzheimer's and you get a big disaster in personality. One thing that I would like to see is multiple characters interacting with the player at once. Obviously that would only be a feature I would like added after the characters are working normally. To conclude, this game has really interesting and fun concept that has unfortunately been poorly made. In it's current state. I can not recommend this game but I hope I will be able to recommend it in the near future. P.S. I haven't finished the game yet so this review was made before I know the end. Do what you will with that information.
Unplayable. All AI NPCs regurgitate the same words for some reason; no where to look up logs. I understand it's in beta stage, and the concept was really cool (the first I know of), but it's skeletal and bare-bones at the moment. They should have prepared much better before making it available.
This game feels genuinely unplayable. The bots take MINUTES to think up a response and when they're done it takes even longer for them to just type it out in the text box for you to read. The bots feel flat and after waiting 4 minutes for it to generate something, it's answers don't even make sense in the story or in general. This especially becomes a problem when a conversation begins with a bot talking to you. Just to start a scene you have to wait for the bot to generate something just for it to either not generate anything or be unreadable. Not to mention they forget literally ANYTHING you say even though you've just said it. It's like a baby learning to talk, you don't understand what they're saying and they probably don't either. The game has astronomical lag as well, it crashed like 5 times just trying to boot up. I can't even play a video in the background while it's running because the game lags my computer so hard that nothing will load. I don't know what computers everyone else in the reviews have but running this game is torture. I've played more intense games on my computer all at the same time with little to no lag, so a simple story game like this should not be giving me problems - ai or not. I think the idea is really interesting, but the game needs to be less laggy and the bots need faster and more coherent responses alongside more personality. I haven't played the full game thus far - and I don't plan to - so take this with a grain a salt. However, in it's current state it'd be better off as a scripted visual novel, simply because the bots ruin the flow of the story/game, and I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anyone.
ive been suck in the park with the teacher forever and she doesnt answer
I wanted to like this. I gave it another try after the recent AI update, but in the current state its just not playable. The AI responses from each character are dull and lifeless. They don't have actual personality, and it takes a good minute or two of waiting for the AI to consider its response before actually saying something. At this point the game feels gimmicky and not immersive.
I remembered watching youtubers play this game and wanting to myself, so bad. but I didn't have a computer. years later, I have a computer, but the ai are now too unintelligent to play with. very disappointing.
Oh. Wow. The characters don't make sense at all. It really just doesn't work.
Great concept but poor execution. The ai simply does not understand what you are trying to say to it. Conversations end in a jumbled mess where I have zero idea on how to follow up with them or they end in reactions that I am not sure how I ended up at. It gets rather repetitive, there is no real character building. The balance system for skills is boring. You can't focus on your character being really into sports and looks (or any other combo) because you miss out on so much. If the AI had a huge overhall maybe I would give it a shot again, but overall.....I am sorry but I find it super boring and kind of a mess.
