Mike was Cursed is an indie horror adventure developed by Bogdan Sychkov and published by Raum Studio that aims to immerse players in a bleak, unsettling mystery rooted in psychological tension rather than constant action. The game opens with a disturbing premise set in a small, isolated town where people—particularly women and children—have begun disappearing without explanation. You step into the role of a man returning home from a business trip, only to discover that his own family is among the missing. This personal tragedy quickly expands into a wider narrative of paranoia and dread, establishing a somber tone that carries through the entire experience and frames the story as much about loss and fear as it is about uncovering the truth. From a gameplay perspective, Mike was Cursed leans heavily into exploration and atmosphere. Rather than focusing on combat or complex mechanics, the game encourages slow, deliberate movement through dark environments filled with environmental storytelling. Abandoned houses, quiet streets, and claustrophobic interiors are designed to make players feel vulnerable and constantly on edge. Much of the tension comes from anticipation—dim lighting, narrow spaces, and carefully placed audio cues work together to keep you uneasy, even when nothing overtly threatening is happening. This approach will feel familiar to fans of indie horror games that prioritize mood and narrative buildup over jump-scare-heavy design. Visually, the game uses a realistic style powered by the Unreal Engine, which helps ground its supernatural elements in a believable setting. While the graphics are not cutting-edge, they are effective in conveying a cold, oppressive atmosphere. Textures, lighting, and environmental details serve the story well, especially in indoor areas where shadows and limited visibility heighten the sense of danger. The environments themselves are fairly grounded and realistic, which makes the more unsettling moments stand out more sharply when they occur. The overall presentation reinforces the idea that horror is lurking just beneath the surface of an otherwise ordinary place. Sound design plays a crucial role in maintaining tension throughout the experience. Subtle background noises, distant sounds, and moments of near-silence are used to keep players alert and uncertain. Music is employed sparingly, often giving way to ambient noise that makes every footstep or creak feel significant. This restrained audio approach works well for the game’s pacing, allowing players to become immersed in the environment and emotionally invested in the mystery rather than distracted by constant musical cues. Narratively, Mike was Cursed unfolds gradually, relying on exploration and environmental clues to piece together what has happened in the town. The story does not spoon-feed answers, instead asking players to connect dots through what they see and experience. This can be engaging for those who enjoy interpreting fragmented narratives, but it may also feel vague or underdeveloped to players who prefer clearer exposition or deeper character development. The emotional core of the story—centered on loss, fear, and desperation—is present, but some aspects of the plot feel underexplored, leaving room for interpretation rather than firm resolution. One of the most commonly discussed aspects of the game is its length and pacing. Mike was Cursed is a relatively short experience, and while it delivers a complete story, it can feel brief given the buildup of its premise. For some players, this concise runtime works in the game’s favor, keeping the tension tight and preventing overstaying its welcome. For others, it may feel as though the story ends just as it begins to fully unfold. Gameplay mechanics and environments can also feel somewhat familiar or repetitive at times, which may reduce their impact for players well-versed in the genre. Overall, Mike was Cursed is a moody, atmospheric horror experience that succeeds most when it focuses on tension, setting, and emotional unease. It may not redefine indie horror or deliver a deeply complex narrative, but it offers a focused and immersive journey that will appeal to players who appreciate slower-paced, story-driven horror games. Its imperfections are evident, particularly in scope and mechanical variety, yet there is a genuine sense of intent behind its design. For fans of atmospheric indie horror who value mood, mystery, and psychological tension over spectacle, Mike was Cursed remains an intriguing and worthwhile experience, especially when approached with the right expectations.
Ok the game started of ok it with some fun jump scares and an interesting story line to start. you begin the game looking for you wife and kid who have gone missing you look all over the house and you see this guy made of what looks like oil. sounds about right for a horror game wandering a house, it was fun and made me jump but the ending was the worst ending i have ever seen! just a heads up i am going to spoil it so if you don't want to know how it ends stop reading now... you have been warned. the ending starts off when you find "your kids rabbit" on the ground with glowing red eyes and a four digit number, that number goes to a safe you find the safe in the office you open it up and the screen goes blank you hear a gun cambering a round and then a shot. THE END OF THE GAME IS YOU JUST SHOOT YOUR SELF THAT'S THE DUMBEST ENDING EVER! don't make the same mistake i did by buying this game now matter the discount!
Good game. A very interesting storyline. If you feel like playing something new, you should definitely give this game a try.
