The gameplay is pretty bad, but the visuals and atmosphere are pretty good. For $2 I'd say it's a good stimulant for an acid trip.
I really wanted to like this game, I really did. The Good The interesting visual aesthetic. The Bad Pretty much everything else. The visuals look nice in screenshots, but when you're actually playing the game it can be very difficult to discern what exactly you're looking at as everything just bleeds into everything else. The visuals could be forgiven, however, if the controls were competent. But unfortunately, they're not. It's an FPS, so you move using the arrow keys and you fire your weapon using the mouse. There's also a jump button. Sounds pretty simple, and it would be, except that your weapon doesn't always fire when you click the mouse button, and the hit detection seems way off when using melee weapons. So, what you're left with is an FPS where it's hard to see what you're doing and the controls don't work reliably. Conclusion If you are really intrigued by the visuals and want to try the game, in its current form it's only worth it if the price ever drops to $0.99. If they ever fix the controls then it might be worth playing through, but as it is right now don't waste your time or money on this.
Absolutely nails the nightmarish fever dream feel. Do you want to feel like you're eternally on the border of sleep, trapped unable to remember why you are where you are and why you're doing what you're doing? Play this game. Want anything else other than that exact feeling of hazy delirium? Don't play this game.

its like a game that comes from a cd inside a cereal box
Like a bad acid trip through a metal heads mind, with a sick soundtrack to boot. Brutal, fun, and absolutely worth it.
Midnight ultra is really not that special and actually made me sick. not sick as in disappointed, but as in a 4:3 first person viewport on a 16:9 screen coupled with bewilderingly confusing visuals and a overall lack of depth (literal depth not gameplay) made this out to be an unpleasent 40mins. I can only say that if it weren't so short I might very well be buying a new keyboard.
I feel almost bad giving this game a bad review, but the most generous thing to say is that Midnight Ultra is not finished. The textures are barely mapped making the maps disorienting. The gunplay is rough, and the enemy pathfinding AI is atrocious. Even the game's options menu seems to not contain any options. There's a great game here, if only it had a little more time to be made.
I had some fun playing a short run of this game, as an explorer type of player I felt that there needs to be some type of reward for going to all the nooks and crannys with a small hidden health or ammo crate as I was always riding at about 20 ammo. This was not really a small amount of ammo but I found myself favoring the melee weapon more often to conserve on ammo. I know that it is an aesthetic choice, one of which really pulls the game together, but the three color system gave me some issues when I was leaping from one platform to another. If an edge stroke were applied or something to differentiate the foreground from the background was implemented I feel that would greatly improve the gameplay. I will definitely play more of this game. Well done dev team!
