What u expect from a atlus game
Gutes Spiel!
foda p´ra krljh
got into it after playing persona 5 and 4, even though the mechanics are some what the same i love how hard mode is very volitile when in battles where even a miss can turn the table, even though my save files is only 13 hours ive fully enjoyed playing the game and meeating the characters, i wish i could say more, but im blown away truelly. best money ive spent on a game same goes with the personas
Metaphor: ReFantazio is basically a playable seinen anime with an impeccable story which uses the same gameplay formula Atlus uses over 20+ years. However, if you've played earlier Atlus titles such as P3, P4, P5; please expect more from the story and less from the gameplay. Let's start with whats good about the game: its story. At the beginning I didn't like the protagonist because of his design but besides that the beginning was spectacular. The game hooks you up in the blink of an eye, and proceeds to not let you down as long as you keep playing it. The twists, the characters, the liveliness of the world... It's certainly peak. World design is also interesting, and as you proceed it makes more sense; both the world design and world building. Level design however, is imbalanced and I didn't enjoy exploration nor dungeon navigation that much. One of the things i realized is that after a certain point, if the protagonist's overworld basic hit is like a 360 thing, you don't even look at the dungeons interior, you can just simply play the game by looking at the minimap. When i realized that it almost made me feel sad. The difficulty level is , well, stupid. I mean Ubisoft level stupid. Basically if you played personas, the game is harder than them, and if you played Shin Megami Tenseis the game is easier than them. The problem is that the 'hard' part being higher hp, annoying skills that some late game monsters spam such as 'reflect almost every damage shield' skill and more. Each fight takes more and more time if you are not grinding enough, which imo is stupid. Just for your reference, the final boss for me took almost 2 hours of fight, straight up. The successful run was almost 2 hours, not the 'retries'. mind you i was level 75, which was pretty decent. Gameplay part is, sad. Really sad. You see, if you never ever played any other Atlus jrpg title, like any personas, you are gonna love the combat if you enjoy turn based combats. It's one of the best out there. And i also think its still good, but it's sad. The reason is simple; this is the exact same combat from , for instance, persona 3, which is ALMOST hitting its 20th birthday. Come on man, seriously? you had the same gameplay formula for almost 2 decades Atlus, and with persona5, you polished it to perfection with additions and somehow you made the combat feel worse than a title you released 9 years ago? Because of this, the whole experience felt like i went to a new town with everything so exciting about it, and the first restaurant i entered serviced me the same meal i got from my hometown, heated in a microwave?!?!?!!! I am utterly disappointed in this company. If this was my first Atlus title i'd rank the gameplay an 8.7/10 just because of poor balancing options, but this is not my first Atlus title. I'd say the gameplay is 7/10. Story however, makes up for the cons of gameplay, and I still think it's one of the best seinen anime stories ever out there. 11/10. TLDR: If you expect a better gameplay then persona5, dont even think about it. Even then, the game is an overall 8.9/10.

this game has the best fiction and storytelling, i've never felt more immersed in a game!
Solid game, but with a little rough around the edges.
Gameplay
Very enjoyable. I love the flexibility of having to freely assign archetypes to your teammates and give them a role suitable for what you want them to do. I find myself strategizing a lot on what my party composition is for every dungeon boss. The inheritance of skills add to the layer of strategy, because you can have hybrid support/damage dealers as needed. Synthesis skills and the adoption of press turn system is perfect for the game. I have no complains with progression because I think it's fair enough. There are tools that really help you boost yourself, and that's fine for me. The dungeons are enjoyable. About what I would expect from an Atlus dungeon design.
♥♥♥♥ the Dragon Temple though
The gameplay is what kept me hooked. It is the reason I kept playing.
Story
With all honesty, the story is alright. While I like the direction it was going for, there were a few misses on how it's presented. Don't get me wrong, I still appreciate this story. I still enjoyed the journey we had. But a few things. -
This tournament plot just got dropped after halfway to the story. So many participants of the competition didn't get any involvement, unless if you did the optional battles against them. Which is still unsatisfying.
-
Redundancy. Biggest example is the Tyrant's Star. The first time we battle Louis there, we had a conversation regarding the flaws of Louis' motivation. THAT SAME CONVERSATION IS DONE AGAIN BEFORE THE FINAL-FINAL BATTLE. Literally just repeated points painted with new lines of dialog.
A lot of conversations between characters fell into this issue. Those two things really caused a drop of points for my rating on this game. But for the rest of what the story offers, I still enjoy.
The BEST Story and Combat Atlus has produced! I'm hooked
