About
Metamorph is a 3D story-driven dating sim with a horror theme, about growing up in a body that quickly becomes foreign to you. You play as a high-school girl who has begun to slowly, but steadily, turn into a twisted cockroach monster. With no signs of being able to reverse it, she sets out to score a date with her crush, all before her grotesque transformation is fully complete.
Navigate through social situations, interact with an unique cast of characters, and try your best to deal with your morphing body. As each day passes and your relationship with your crush unravels, your transformation spreads - The tendrils of your mind will begin playing tricks on you, making it harder and harder to conceal your condition.

What a refreshing little indie gem! I am a huge fan of both psychological horror and otome games, so when I saw Metamorph had both, I had to give it a try. Based loosely on Kafka's Metamorphosis, it shows a teenage girl struggling to cope with her growing emotions and changes, wondering if they will overtake her. One word I would use to describe this game is charming. There are a few different endings, and it doesn't take too long to play through them. The mini-games are adorable, and I absolutely love the roach references and UI. This game is not perfect; some text goes off screen at times, and there is no save function, but those two things didn't bother me too much. Overall, I absolutely adored this game. There are no jumpscares, just good ol' fashioned spooky environment. The body horror scenes did do their job of making me feel squeamish without going overboard. I also thoroughly enjoyed seeing her interact with her love interest. If you are in the mood for a unique bite sized psychological horror experience with cute psx graphics, I highly recommend giving this game a try.
"The rewards of being loved. The ordeal of being known." This game is fantastic. Worth checking out if you're at all interested! First play through took me about 90 minutes. I liked how they took Kafka's metaphor of becoming monstrous, twisting it from disability, to the horrors of opening up. That our main character is only a mask that no one really seems to care or know. But one day, a boy she admires adores her art, and it sparks his interest to know her. Over the course of the week, they spend time together, and presuming you succeed the skill checks, she opens up and learns about him, and he in turn learns about her. However, every day she opens up, she discovers she has become a little more monstrous. She may try to preen herself back to the facade, but the damage is done. This goes on until the game finally climaxes with her confession. Her transformation is complete and there is nothing left to hide. I do wish there was some falling action based on your choices. Just a little "this is what happened" to each character would have been nice. Also don't like that you can only pick one side character to explore each play through. It means you're gonna -have- to play the game 4 times to complete all their quests. 8 if you wanna see all the content. It's not a long game, but since the game isn't really about time management, I feel like being forced to choose hurts the game. I feel it would have been neat to see how every character feels about the main character's transformation based on their relationship by the end. Even with those minor complaints though, I am going to tell as many people as I know to check this one out.
what is existential dread if not the alienation of self under capitalism and systemic misogyny persevering. or something of the sort
Metamorph is heavily inspired by Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis. Our main character is a high school girl dealing with insecurity issues and a difficult home life, and she is slowly, or in this case rather quickly, transforming into a cockroach. Despite her struggles, she still looks forward to school because her crush is there. The 2D art cutscenes are beautiful and really detailed, ranging from very pretty to increasingly horrific and eerie as her transformation progresses. I just wish the 2D cutscenes were more visible. Sometimes they were on screen for only a few seconds, making it hard to fully appreciate the visuals. I also wish there was a way to hide the text to better take in the artwork. The actual in-game gameplay outside of the mini-games uses a low-poly PSX style, and I really enjoy it. It is very blocky and aliased, yet it effectively conveys a cluttered and infested atmosphere as she becomes more like the roach she dreads becoming. I enjoyed the various mini-games throughout the experience. Although they are simple and sometimes a bit janky, like the first-person mini-game, I found them enjoyable due to their unique visuals. I think they were a great overall addition to the game. I did have some issues with the game however, I feel that some of the dialogue and characters are very shallow. This is probably by design since the game aims to showcase how societal expectations and maintaining a public persona can turn people into unpleasant versions of themselves. I think this idea could have been explored more subtly for greater impact. Sometimes, the issue also works the other way, not just by making characters obnoxious. Take the main character’s crush, for example. He’s always nice and says the right things, but it feels almost inhuman. While you could argue it's an idealized projection, I didn't get that sense while playing. Another issue, which ties into the previous one, is that you need to restart the game to see certain characters' missions. However, a majority of the characters are just a bit shallow and unlikable, which makes you not really want to put in all the effort to do that. I think it would've been better to just have all the character missions available in one run, personally. Overall, I still enjoyed the game, and considering that this is the developer's first project, it's impressive. I really hope to see more work from everyone involved, from the 2D and 3D art to the music and writing. It is a very cool visual experience that could use some refinement in its dialogue and writing progression, but it is a promising start, and I will definitely follow their future projects. This game creates an aesthetic that feels truly unique in the way that body horror and pursuing your high school crush naturally blend together, strangely enough. Many can relate to the feeling of growing into a body that feels less and less like your own, and Metamorph's thematic analogy is on point in many ways. The creepy yet bizarre world of the game manages to convey the horrors of unwanted change. At the same time it frames the world's strange events as sort of mundane and secondary while you try to impress your crush. Combined, the whiplash between cutesy moments and body horror feels just as absurd as trying to live your day to day while growing up in a world of expectations with the limited agency of a teenager. This aesthetic is reason enough for those looking for something unique to buy it and experience it for yourself!
Very interesting game, surreal and surprisingly sweet. A weird and gross game about puberty? Maybe? The character movement is incredibly slow, which honestly discouraged me from looking for all the secrets and doing all the quests, having to search each room at every time of day each day to talk to every npc is quite the slog at such a slow pace. But the characters are fun, the artwork is wonderful, the gameplay is varied and the creativity is through the roof. Excellent storytelling and a bizarre and interesting atmosphere as the story progresses. Avoid if you cannot handle bugs (the kind with creepy crawly legs) in your game. I played through twice to see different npc questlines, but there are more I didn't do also.
A really intresting game. I loved the art style and vibes. Definitely worth trying out :D
Great hidden gem of a game that was well designed and has a great art style. I enjoyed the story and I feel like it would of been better to maybe extend the story and have all the side quests be available in one playthrough of the game but overall it was a good game https://youtu.be/ngltlAIMSkk
