Metal Dead

A comedy P&C adventure game where a couple of metal heads have to battle a building besieged by zombies? On paper this is ticks all the right boxes, but it falls short in execution. The graphics are.. fine and also pretty consistent which feels like something I couldn't say about some more well known games. Writing and comedy is again fine and pretty tight, but the tone is somewhere between stoner and uni student. The puzzles are not complex but are a times a little obtuse. Less time wasted because you couldn't solve something, more time wasted because you didn't even realise there was an option to take an action. Wish steam offer some neutral review option, it's not that I don't recommend this game but would recommend it was caveat to temper expectations.

Metal Dead is an old-school style point-and-click adventure set in a zombie apocalypse. The art style based on flash-games sprites works well, and the game has a lot of comedy and jokes. It has some branching dialogue choices and achievements, but the overall gameplay is clunky. Still, it’s an enjoyable experience if you’re a fan of the genre and get it on sale.

https://blog.naver.com/jampuri/223307846451 <- 장문의 리뷰는 이쪽. 오스트레일리아산 좀비 아포칼립스 소재의 포인트 앤 클릭 어드벤처 게임. 포인트 앤 클릭 어드벤처 게임 중 좀비 소재는 보기 드문 것이라 장르적 유니크함은 있지만, 좀비물인데 좀비들이 배경으로만 나오고. 실제로 좀비의 공격이 사망 포인트로 직관되는 건 최종 국면 때의 일이라 그 전까지는 사망 포인트가 없어서 게임 플레이가 너무 널널해서 긴장감이 없다. 게임 그래픽은 카툰 스타일인데 그런 것 치고 인게임에서 만화적 리액션이 자주 나오지 않아서 게임 아트가 별로 매력적으로 다가오지 않는다. 헤비 메탈도 주요 소재지만 인게임에서 음악의 비중이 높은 것에 비해, 음악 자체가 좋은 곡은 또 없어서 좀비와 헤비 메탈 음악의 조화라는 기획 의도는 알겠지만 개발력이 따라가주지 못한 것 같다. 개그물이지만 유독 화장실 유머가 많이 나와서 헛웃음도 안 나오게 하는데. 이게 딱 2000년대 초 플래시 게임 수준이라 2010년 이후의 스팀 게임으로 다시 보기엔 좀 그렇지 않나 싶다. 같은 화장실 유머라고 해도 사우스 파크는 취향이 맞아서 빵빵 터지는데. 이 게임은 그럴 만한 포인트가 없어서 개발진의 개그 센스가 영 좋지 않은 게 아닌가 싶다. 근데 이게 좀비물의 관점에서 보면 또 이야기가 달라진다. 의외로 좀비물로서는 정석 대로 만들어 좀비물의 왕도를 지향하고 있다. 게임 클리어를 하고 엔딩을 볼 때쯤에는 진짜 한 편의 좀비 영화를 다 본 느낌이 들 정도다. 비록 좀비물 소재를 게임 플레이 자체에 크게 반영하지는 못했어도, 스토리는 좀비물에 충실하게 만들어서 그게 본작의 멱살을 잡고 하드 캐리한 수준이다. 본래 엄밀히 말하자면 잘 쳐줘야 평작인데. 스팀에는 추천과 비추천밖에 없으니 그중에 하나를 고르자면 추천작이다. 부족한 점이 많긴 하지만 좀비물로서의 스토리가 꽤 괜찮아서 좀비 영화 한 편 보는 느낌으로 플레이할 만하다.

Surprisingly fun game that manages to be something very original despite tons of homage to genre films and music.

This was a good game. Felt reminiscent of a newgrounds style flash game. The puzzles were fairly easy, only once or twice was there an ever an issue where 'you just weren't clicking in the right spot'. The story was neat and developed nicely. The comedy was mostly low-brow but a lot of the humor came from the how the protagonist was the only sane person around, which was amusing and made for some funny and relatable dialogue. The whole 'metal' theme was really only present in the beginning and towards the end, and it was kind of over-the-top, so that'll be a hit or miss for you. Overall it was a fun little point and click adventure game that'll keep you occupied for a few hours, took about 4 hours depending on how much you like to observe things and read the dialogue.
