Fun game focused on trading. Nobody will read my review so I Will Eat 1 Tablespoon of ketchup For Every Like this gets.

I tend to like merchant games where you buy low and sell high. When you start out you can only deal in two kinds of merchandise, both of which tend to follow each other in price, so you are constantly moving between locations without buying anything because you can't both buy and sell at the same time, since merchandise are either both expensive or both cheap. I never bothered playing until more things opened up for sale because it was way too tedious to get there.
I gave this game a solid try and probably got something like 80% of the way to the end before deciding it wasn't a juice worth the squeeze. Merchants of Kaidan is a game that manages to seize defeat from the jaws of victory. Every time you're about to have some fun, it feels like there is some arbitrary mechanic preventing you from actually progressing. Oh, you found a sweet deal on some wares? You lost half of your inventory on a random event on the road. You finally earned enough money to buy a massage parlour? You need to now go through several dozen bars checking for a random "massage parlour manager" NPC. You have a business partner that will allow you to accelerate your development of the game? Jokes on you- you can't transfer cash between them and your main player-character. Just... why? For what it is worth, the narrative and worldbuilding of this game was pretty out-of-the-box and worth the read. I'm not sure who did the writing, but they did a pretty bang-up job compared to ever designed the U/I and programmed the core game mechanics.
"Merchants of Kaidan" is an older game from 2014. It's a venerable 10 years old at the time of this review. This is a "trading" business simulator game with some RPG elements, and most of the gameplay takes place in static dialogues, a bit like a spreadsheet simulator but you don't get to see the spreadsheet. You do get to see some mediocre hand painted artwork and scenes. Now, I'm reviewing this game on basis of the majority of the gameplay, which is the 2D interfaces. There is a somewhat low poly 3D map that you sometimes interact with, and even some 3D minigames, but these are of very low quality and don't reflect the core of the game. The overall trading game works, you buy low, sell high, have dialogues, do simple "quests" and so on, but this becomes tedious very quickly... remember this game is on the same platform as Counter-Strike, Helldivers 2 and Grand Theft Auto. This kind of "could-be-done-as-a-webpage" game has to be incredibly good to compete with those kinds of professional AAA games, and it isn't. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features mostly static, barely animated 2D images, the kind of thing you expect to see in browser/flash games. While the artwork itself, while mediocre, might be considered passable, the visual presentation here is negligible, it might as well be a slideshow or a Youtube video. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Asteroids had more advanced animation and visuals going on than this game does. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static images... it might as well be a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. "Merchants of Kaidan" has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for doubling your money within 50 days, trivial to achieve, but less than 10 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 10 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Merchants of Kaidan" has the ridiculous price of $15 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $15 asking price for this game could get you games like "Stellaris", "Grand Theft Auto V" or "Lethal Company". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
It is all fun and games until you get a quest to buy 5 diamonds in the city to bring them somewhere else. the catch: No diamonds are for sale and the quest doesnt let you leave town without them, not can you abandon the quest.. GAME OVER..
Merchats of Kaidan feels like meeting an old friend. I never thought I would say a trading game would be cozy but strangely this title is. Yeah there is some peril and if your luck low you will keep getting kicked in the mud but then you take in the mellowness of the soundtrack and the watercolor palette of the map and it's just... the mud becomes comfortable! lol But yeah! There are a few different modes to choose from but really the heart of the game is pretty much stock market. Buy low, sell high. Pay attention to the volatility of places and buy rounds for people in bars to help shed some light (or not) on what to buy and where to sell it. Help out people whether they want to hitch a ride or need something delivered. There are a few mines and such scattered across the map that you can defeat the monster therein and claim the mine for yourself. There's also specialists you can hire to traverse with you and they will use their skills to aid you. For instance a cartwright fixes your cart immediately after it breaks so you don't have to deal with repairs cost. They get their flat fee and the cart break down literally everywhere you go and you just never have to worry about it again. You can also train them to be better at what they do which in turn gives you better aid. There's a bit of depth to this game and It's a pretty easy loop to get lost in no matter how good or bad you are at capitalism. It's definitely not a game for everyone but really no game is. This certainly gets a rec from me though. Now if you'll excuse me, I almost have enough for a new rank and with it, I might add to my cart fleet or update my cart? :o Who knows? Only the Blind Deity.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
