this is the greatest sci fi rpg ever made period
Honestly when i first played ME1 the gameplay really turned me away and stopped playing the first half of it. but after returning and really taking in the story and world of this game i really enjoyed it, especially when i got to ME2 which i think is a huge improvement, halfway Through ME2 and cant wait to get to 3, one of the best story games ive played in a while highly recommend.
Man, rose tinted glasses, yo. I should not have come back to try to replay these. They are buggy and very, very poorly balanced.
Juegazo, la historia es una tremenda joya
I got(still have) the Xbox 360 trilogy folding case back in like 2014~ Christmas (1 year margin of error) and I binged the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of the first game into the second game, I went radio silent for like 2 straight weeks playing it and I was immersed and dazed by the end of ME2.I've played through ME1 and 2 like 3 and 1/2 times now with the halfway through ME2 again using mods because whynot and some content like a certain character was originally designed to be recruit able from the start for example. I got like 1/3rd into Me3 back on the 360 but the weird pacing and overall game just didn't hold me. My personal favorite it actually ME1, ME2 is good and I like its story beats more, but ME1 is overall my favorite (its like how Evil Dead 1 is my favorite of its series. Me1 has a lot of charm, while I didn't really like the looks of it much, the way you had to manually find locations after checking the diary and the way the ship layout was set up, it was really fascinating to me even though I dont actually like Startrek (this game is heavily based upon) or really Starwars exactly (I DO like Starwars in most ways but-). Sci-Fi IPs rely HEAVILY on the interactions of the characters, they try to sell you into the cast and characters rather than the world itself in hopes the characters feel "natural" and you passively accept the rest of the setting. Thats why a lot of sci-fi universe often make little sense logically for many details in their setting or story. But thats not the true point, Mass Effect does actually do this better than most sci-fi universes and lets crazy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tech exist (omni-tool, Medi-gel and Omni-gel for example, beyond OP but the game also then suddenly makes them not as OP as they are actually when convenient). Its like how Joker at this point technically in THE future, should have a enhanced Augmented reality vision optics to let him see a 360 through the hulls and rooms of the Normandy all at once, up to idk 100x zoom with low light vision and infrared maybe even some form of magnetic field vision (this specifically would fit with mass effect quite a lot actually) with Edi popping up camera angles of notable key details and camera views ect. But like I said this isn't the point(it does matter, mass effect 2 has a poorly designed story event that should have just simply not have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happened more on that), all these sci-fi worlds are characters + development of them first and world building second. Mass effect has a good setup, not perfect but its a perfect balance between strike team assaults, hunting galactic threats and what amounts to super galaxy murder scale cryptids and also sitting back to cut off the counsel while you investigate the universe. Mass effect lacks a bit in gameplay, and having watched a certain content creator I enjoy fumble and bash her head through the game without really understanding any of the mechanics *COUGH COUGH* IRYS *COUGH COUGH* it and likely Me2 could have told you a bit more on the gameplay. So I will Mass effect is a cover based shooter with abilities, that has playstyles that depend on your character's class. Generally speaking you will want to enter the tactical mode, which you can pan the camera and aim your cross hair onto targets- which you can then press either your and/or any allied abilities that will pivot to attempt to attack said target. In Me1 you also have grenades, these can be air detonated if I remember right and solves pretty much any problem (I really like using it against slippery enemies) enemy the game has. You can also put mods into all your weapons, grenades and armor which ammo types are important in both Me1 and 2. In Me1 you also can use any weapon type, you WILL NOT be able to the following game. Soldiers get them all but every other class gets at least a sidearm of some kind and their "primary". You do get a weapon training to use any other of one weapon type in ME2. In my opinion the ammo system that comes in after Me1 sucks fat ♥♥♥♥, Helldivers got the hybrid infinite ammo + reloadable "ammo" right and I wish mass effect 2-3 had that instead (modders plz) with the "overheat" state increasing damage rapidly maybe even igniting enemies but then after you have to replace the very limited thermal clip. Otherwise the gameplay is pretty similar between games. Do note you can sorta get away with doing a hybrid Paragon (charm) and Renegade (intimate) Shepard to some extent but you SHOULD focus on one over the other unless your fine with the inability to talk your way out of later or certain choices. Make sure to check your crew's new thoughts after all main missions, some even have lines for side missions and 'loyalty missions'. Loyalty missions are important, they are the side quests of your companions and you SHOULD seek these out when given them, at least dont progress the main story, Me1 for example has Wrex who gives you a side mission, go ahead and do that. For mass effect 2, your squamates will gain a new ability too which you the player can "learn" one at any time of too. As well as you SHOULD do them all, especially your last companion member (asap). Speaking of which, Me2 has a poorly rushed story event, I wont sugar coat it, DO NOT DO THE IFF MISSION UNLESS YOUR READY TO MOVE ON WITH THE MAIN STORY SPECIFICALLY, do everything you need to do first THEN go get the IFF- then do the final loyalty mission- then do the next MAIN mission. Dont blame me or people that tell you, blame the devs or higherups (I dont care) for rushing this arbitrary shark jump moment that could have been so much better. Other notes is if you pick engineer class and expect sentries, they come in Me3. In mass effect 2 you get this derp robot ball that "I HATE THEM" (Anakin reaction meme) pretty much my first reaction all those years back and still to this day. Its genuinely good (wow a 4th ally that you spawn ontop of enemies at range that sole purpose is to draw fire and cheese extra damage with is busted?) but its just not what I wanted and just isn't fun. They attempted to censored some things in this edition, because... I guess they didn't learn their lesson from the massive moral outrage over the 1st game when it came out, and thus just couldn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ help themselves to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ day? Jesus Christ, you can get mods and should mod it anyways to improve these games. One last thing is this legendary edition doesn't have multiplayer, that sounds so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ strange if you are not aware I know but ME3 had a beautiful but flawed multiplayer/Coop mode that you were also required to play to maximize your core resource needed for the story in Me3. It let you play as every other race and whatnot pretty cool, not here though, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid because its definitely in demand. You can go play that still with the basic ME3 edition not here. Kill Batarians, Dont listen to Jacob and romance Tali while pretending like the rest of us that they didn't also half ass face reveal her race via google images + poor photoshoping.
Its mass effect

one of the best series of games I've ever played 10/10 would highly recommend
(don't mind the hours -- bought it after beating ME2) spent this entire month getting to know ME's world and characters. these games made me laugh and cry so many times that i'm surprised i've still got any liquid left in my body. it's definitely worth picking up if you're looking for something with well-written, loveable characters (
not you, jacob
), a story where your decisions matter, and a banger soundtrack. the games run really well, except for mako sections and virmire mission (near the end) in ME1. hate being forced to use the EA app, though.
