Mass Effect (2007)

It was okay to play, but the systems weren't great. The class system, guns, and combat all felt unimpactful. The story was good, but even though it lets you choose the order of events, once you set yourself on a goal it kind of railroads you into the conclusion. Compared to Bioware's other games it felt like what I did as Shep had almost no real effect on the rest of the story. Exploration is boring, and bugs are not uncommon, breaking lighting, textures, and even saves since it has not been kept updated, even less after the release of the legendary edition. If it had been a little more engaging I would have a high recommendation but the characters have less growth than I would have expected, the story had good world building, but poor engagement, and the 2000's combat mechanics are not enough to keep it afloat in this day and age.

A nearly perfect game, well worth the price, and my only complaint is the character customization. I'm the sort of guy who wants their character to look like a gigachad, and this game doesn't do that. If you want gigachad characters, go play skyrim. But a pretty good game overall. 8.7/10
