Mass Effect (2007)

A classic RPG with morality. Great setting and story, excellent environment. Its fun.

I have played through Mass Effect at least twice and maybe three times. Love the game. Good story line. Good graphics. Seems to play well for me using Proton 8 on Linux. Wish I could get the controls to mimic the Xbox version. It plays very similar as far as controls.

There is no science fiction world I can think of that is as richly explored in a single game as that of Mass Effect. It's as if the creators are documenting a real history: the amount of scientific and sociopolitical detail this work contains is frankly absurd. What would just be an average shooter RPG thus becomes an incredibly rich and immersive experience. And while the lore and background information of this universe is by itself an impressive achievement, it is the realistic and well written character interactions that turn this into a story that will stay with you forever. Combine this with a fantastic soundtrack, awe-inspiring visuals and a unique art design, and you get a timeless cinematic masterpiece. Apart from the aforementioned average shooter game play, there is one other slight negative. There are filler missions on the various extra planets that get extremely repetitive, which isn't helped by the fact that a lot of assets are reused for these. However, all main story related missions and environments are top tier, and these criticisms pale in comparison to what they achieve in all other aspects of the game.

BioWare logró combinar una narrativa profunda con un universo vasto y lleno de matices, ofreciendo a los jugadores una experiencia inmersiva que aún hoy se siente fresca. El sistema mezcla acción en tercera persona con elementos de rol. La personalización del personaje, las elecciones en los diálogos y la progresión de habilidades permiten que cada partida sea única. Aunque el combate puede sentirse algo rígido comparado con entregas posteriores, en su momento fue innovador y emocionante. La música electrónica y ambiental refuerza la sensación de estar en una epopeya espacial. Cada planeta visitado transmite una identidad propia, y los efectos de sonido logran que la inmersión sea total. Más allá de ser el inicio de una trilogía legendaria, Mass Effect introdujo un sistema de decisiones que afectaban no solo el juego en curso, sino también las secuelas. Esa continuidad narrativa fue revolucionaria y convirtió a la saga en un referente del género. Mass Effect para es una joya que combina narrativa, exploración y rol con una atmósfera inolvidable. Es un título que no solo entretiene, sino que invita a reflexionar sobre poder, responsabilidad y legado en un universo vibrante.
