Marathon

This game was fun, I guess. But didnt live up to its own hype. I really did want to love this game, I was geniunely very excited when I saw all the trailers. I loved the artstyle and Ive been waiting for a game to come along and make me fall in love with Extraction Shooters. This is not that game. The artstyle doesnt look anywhere near as good as the Ads made it, instead most of the game is just Unreal Engine 5 slop with some vibrant colors. The game advertised itself with a sort of hyper satuated Mirror's Edge style and instead it just looks likes every other Unreal 5 game with some weird guns. The Gameplay is okay but god its frustrating. The Boost system feels like it was thought out well for PvP fights but not for the PvE which is 90% of what you do. The guns feel like they tickle AI and Players alike while theirs instantly nuke you (Im not just talking about Grey guns or Starter Kit items, I managed to get my hands on some decent equipment and i still had this issue) And health is so incredibly stingy. Unless you managed to bring in the very best healing items in the game before a run, youll be spamming low level heals for an hour only to get one shot anyway. The various Frames are geniunely quite cool and I do wish they had a better enviornment to shine in. Though not all are made equally, for instance. Despite being my favorite, I struggled to actually figure out how to use Thief. All this in service to a gameplay loop that has been repeatedly shown to only favor the highest end of players with no concern for low levels. Im sure bungie will eventually add that PvE mode theyve been talking about that dozens of players will love. But lets be honest, this game isnt lasting that long. Also, it killed Destiny 2

If you liked Destiny you're gonna love this game for sure, Bungie's identity and art direction is kind of the same as Destiny 1 and 2 but the gameplay really is different, I don't like extraction shooter but this one for some reason feels different to me, anyways try it and right before 2 hours of gameplay you can just refund it if you dont like it.

my humble opinion + fun gameplay loop + pvp is really satisfying + good communication from bungo - cryo only open on weekends - nerf recon - hit registration is a little wonky - pvp in the upper level is only grenade-heavy instead of ability-heavy - recon is too good. - WHY ARE THE CRADLE RESET REWARDS SO INSANELY ASS I THREW TWENTYTHOUSAND UNSTABLE BIOMASS AT IT FOR A SKIN THAT IS WORSE THAN THE NUCALORIC SKINS - rook is too weak

Among the very best pvp shooters ever made, but not everyone will have the patience to excel at it. On the merits of the art and sound design alone, Marathon is easily worth the asking price, and I'd even say $40 is an absolute steal.

honestly this game is getting worse and worse by the week, super glitchy, horrible moderation for their voice chat, cryo archive is literal dog water if you go with good loot good luck getting close to security 2 without having to go into control but if you go in with green shields you'll be almost security lvl 3 by the end of the second room/

Marathon is a weird beast and you should absolutely play it. I've recently reached level 100 and unlocked 100% of the 14 achievements... and I'm going to stick around for the next few seasons and she how it goes as they reboot it into whatever comes next. More PvE and story I hope. I'd love to watch a "heart of darkness" style documentary on the making of this thing because I bet it's an absolute wild ride of a lot of powerful rich people making a lot of bad choices over and over while the rest of the team are putting in their best work to build something this beautiful.
