Mahluk: Dark Demon is a dark fantasy action-platformer developed and published by Serkan Bakar that combines retro-inspired side-scrolling gameplay with hack-and-slash combat, RPG progression systems, and challenging boss encounters. Built around fast combat and dangerous exploration, the game embraces the spirit of classic arcade platformers while modernizing the formula with character upgrades, hidden secrets, and smoother controls. The result is a surprisingly engaging indie adventure that succeeds not through complicated storytelling or cinematic presentation, but through satisfying gameplay and relentless pacing. The game places players in the role of a warrior battling against demonic creatures and supernatural corruption spreading throughout a grim fantasy world. While the story itself remains relatively simple, it provides enough motivation to support the action without interrupting the flow of gameplay. The narrative mainly serves as a framework for the adventure, allowing the focus to remain firmly on combat, exploration, and survival. Rather than overwhelming players with lengthy dialogue or cutscenes, the game relies on atmosphere and level design to communicate the danger surrounding its world. Combat is easily the strongest part of the experience. Players fight through waves of monsters using melee attacks, magical powers, and special abilities that become stronger over time. Battles are fast, responsive, and consistently satisfying because every attack feels impactful. Enemy encounters often require quick reflexes and careful positioning, especially during larger fights where multiple threats attack simultaneously. The controls are smooth enough to support the game’s aggressive pacing, allowing players to move fluidly between dodging, attacking, and platforming without frustration. The progression system adds an extra layer of motivation throughout the campaign. Enemies reward experience points and resources that can be used to strengthen abilities and improve equipment. As the player grows stronger, combat gradually becomes more varied and rewarding, with new skills opening additional strategies against tougher enemies. This RPG-style growth system gives the game a satisfying sense of progression without becoming overly complicated. The steady improvement of the character helps maintain engagement across the entire adventure. Exploration is another important element of the game. Levels contain hidden areas, secret pathways, collectible rewards, and optional discoveries that encourage players to search carefully rather than rushing directly to the exit. The environments themselves are varied enough to remain visually interesting, ranging from ruined castles and cursed forests to underground caverns and demonic strongholds. While the game follows a mostly linear structure, the hidden content provides enough freedom to reward curiosity and replayability. Boss fights are among the game’s most memorable moments. Each major enemy introduces unique attack patterns and mechanics that demand patience and observation. These encounters often require players to learn movement timing and attack openings through repeated attempts, reinforcing the game’s retro-inspired design philosophy. Defeating bosses feels rewarding because success usually depends on skill and persistence rather than simple character strength alone. The challenge level remains consistently high throughout the game, especially during later stages where enemy patterns become more aggressive. Visually, Mahluk: Dark Demon uses detailed 2D pixel art that captures the atmosphere of classic action-platformers while still feeling polished enough for modern audiences. Character animations are fluid, enemy designs are varied, and environmental details help create a convincing dark fantasy atmosphere filled with danger and decay. The use of lighting effects, glowing magic, and shadowy environments strengthens the oppressive tone without requiring high-end graphical realism. The art style works particularly well because it complements the game’s old-school gameplay structure. The soundtrack also contributes heavily to the overall atmosphere. Energetic battle themes keep combat exciting, while darker ambient tracks reinforce the mood during exploration sequences. Sound effects are sharp and satisfying, giving every sword strike and magical attack noticeable impact. The audio design may not be especially cinematic, but it supports the gameplay effectively and helps maintain momentum during intense encounters. One of the game’s defining characteristics is its difficulty. Mahluk: Dark Demon does not attempt to be forgiving, especially during platforming sections and boss battles. Enemies deal significant damage, traps punish careless movement, and some encounters require memorization before they can be overcome consistently. Players who enjoy challenging retro-inspired action games will likely appreciate this approach because it rewards patience and skill improvement. However, newcomers or players expecting a more relaxed experience may occasionally find the difficulty frustrating. The game also has some noticeable limitations. Certain animations and environmental interactions lack the refinement seen in larger indie platformers, and some gameplay mechanics rely heavily on familiar genre conventions rather than introducing truly original ideas. The story itself is fairly basic and does not explore its world or characters in much depth. Nevertheless, these shortcomings rarely overshadow the strength of the gameplay, which remains consistently entertaining throughout the adventure. What makes Mahluk: Dark Demon successful is its understanding of what makes classic action-platformers enjoyable. It focuses on responsive controls, rewarding combat, exploration, and difficult boss encounters without burdening the experience with unnecessary complexity. The game feels like a sincere tribute to old-school side-scrolling adventures while still including enough modern progression systems to keep contemporary players invested. Mahluk: Dark Demon may not completely reinvent the genre, but it delivers a polished and satisfying action experience filled with challenging combat, atmospheric environments, and rewarding progression. Players who enjoy retro-inspired platformers with fast-paced hack-and-slash gameplay and dark fantasy themes will likely find it a highly enjoyable and memorable indie title. Rating: 7/10

Someone followed an online blog on "How to create your first 2D Action Platformer" and put it on Steam. Good job kid.
Poor level design and platforming coupled with save-points. No thanks.
