The game is still early in development, I can see some potential in this game, but it's a nice casual game when you're trying to take a break. A recommendation is to incorporate actually playing mahjong into the story mode, and maybe have special rules or something when playing in story mode, because the story mode honestly feels very bare and kind of boring. The tutorial covers the basic rules and types of hands that you can make, which is very helpful to someone like me, who is used to playing Hong Kong Mahjong. Other than the fact that the story mode can use some improvement, I would recommend this game if you want to learn how to play Japandese mahong or you just want to take a break and play some mahjong.

i know, i know. but don't judge a review by the person's playtime. This game, is the, if not the most absolute one in teaching you japanese mahjong. It's a first for me, for learning mahjong like, from games and wiki, but still doesn't know how to do it. But this game really speeds up my knowledge on it, and i at least learnt a few tips and tricks from this game's tutorial. It's up to you, but i recommend this game to GOTY.

I play Mahjong as a not very often leisure activity. I got into Japanese Mahjong because my friends buggered me about it, knowing that I play Hong Kong Mahjong. I don't call myself average even after months of play, but I wanted something that helps me train and get used to it(Because the physical size difference and tiles and different rules of each yaku and stuff is more complex than what I'm used to), something that can be played offline in case I don't get internet. This is, if not the best actual Mahjong experience on Steam, is a great tool to either kill your time or hone your skills. I'm just going to ignore story mode, haven't tried that at all since that's not the main reason I bought this game. Graphics are meh, but that really doesn't matter. The characters are drawn okay I guess. Tutorial is great for folks who have zero knowledge into Mahjong to pick it up. I also appreciate the training mode where I need to make a hand in 26 tiles. The ability part does make some interesting elements, have to admit. Lots to pick and play with. Praise to dev for adding a speed slider for those who really want to just have quick games. I do have one issue though: I turned off all sound options but the blaring trumpets still play when I enter a game. Please fix. Would buy at current price.

This game has a very clean and accessible Tutorial menu, which is very easy to use and read Yaku from. I have been teaching myself Mahjong for about 5 days. The first 2 Days were horrific, I had no idea what I was really doing, or why I wasn't winning or losing when I thought I should be. Day 3 I bought this Game. By Day 4 this game had taught me all of the basics of Mahjong and I was ready to move on to advanced tutorials - Day 4 also saw my first ever win, which was against real players, and I won with a fairly complex hand of Terminal and Honours, achieving a total of 7 Han, with open hand penalties! This game was undoubtedly the first step to my genuine understanding of Mahjong, and even though I am not a fan of the slightly flirty anime style of Mahjong games like this, I would happily pay the cost of this game again out of gratitude. Honestly, based SOLELY on my desperate need to learn, and the way this title fulfilled that need: [b]10/10[/b] [i]You'll have to decide for yourself how good the game is in any other way.[/i]

This Game is influenced by Saki-Mahjong Manga Series, so yeah, every girl has at least one ability, and it's a good choice to trainning Riichi-Mahjong on computer or later online to play with other player when the game updated to add this and then can be played. Points: 9/10 and 87/100

[h1] Pros [/h1] - All characters are unlock at the start for you to choose. - Though there are many characters, being able to see each other's ability during the game is helpful - Finally, Mahjong game that is without any H-scene, Ecchi-scene or girls in skimpy clothing - Beginner friendly as tutorial explains the different and it is split between beginner and advance - 1) It explains the different suits - 2) There's a "shuffle Practice" mode that lets you practice your winning hands formation - 3) Advance explains the extra points that is obtain at the end of the game [h1] Cons [/h1] - Lack of story modes and story related Mahjong battles. - Lack of public games, which means you only can play with CPU or your friends (that is, if you have any that is interested) - Lack of interaction between players during the games [h1] Neither here nor there [/h1] - Choosing a character ability to suit your play style is a big part in this game - BGM is nice but it's not something you would want to listen for the whole of your game - There is no timer for you to throw your tile [h1] Verdict [/h1] I recommend the game for people who are beginners, for people who like and wants to experience what's it like in the manga/anime "Saki" and for people who are bored of normal mahjong for the following reasons - 1) Beginner friendly as [list] [*] there is a good tutorial page [*] character with ability is liken to a handicap that allows beginner to learn better [*] Lack of timer so beginner can take their time to place their tiles [/list] - 2) The game can be use in a family setting, even for kids, - 3) It meets the intention of the creator of being a casual game, eg the music, the lack of timer, the not complicated controls, highlighting tiles that gives extra points

Steam has tons of Shanghai mahjong tile games but those ain't real mahjong. Mahjong Club is one of a few that is the real deal mahjong game. Despite some bugs, the gameplay is surprising good. Every character in the game has their own special ability and perks that are naturally inclined towards having advantage over the outcome of their hands or favour towards a certain of play style, or having a higher chance of drawing a particular class of tiles, or gravitating towards a certain yaku. The anime-ish characters and their abilities and skills resembles the counterpart from the characters of the Saki anime. It reminds me of the gameplay of some character's special skills somewhat similar to the Saki mahjong games on PSP/PSvita, such as Saki's trademarked special mahjong skill, "Rinshan Kaihou" or the "Dead wall draw". A plus is that Mahjong Club is beginner friendly to those who are new to mahjong. It has a nice beginner friendly tutorial and practice drill to introduce newcomers to the basics of mahjong and yakus.
